I do I do and the reason is plain and simple. I know people I work with that use this site and I don't want them to suspect who I am.

I bet most of you have several usernames for the same reasons right?

Not a chance. It has taken me long enough to change to a second name.

nappynuttynormabutty · 12/10/2007 17:52

I don't. Tbh if I wouldn't post it under my normal name I probably wouldn't want to post it on a public forum. That and I'm too lazy to name change

bumbling · 12/10/2007 17:52

Yup, don't have multiple names on the go at one time, but do change it every so often, for various reasons...Once because I just turned into a serial thread killer!

Carmenere · 12/10/2007 17:53

No, have only had one or two Carmenre-type names, and one or two for very personal embarrassing things.

bumbling · 12/10/2007 17:53

Watch this space..new name change looming methinks.

JudgeyMcJudgeson · 12/10/2007 17:54

I change my name for embarassing stuff obv.

I also use this nickname for when I don't want others, who know I use this site and who I am, to know something about me.

That is one of the beauties of being able to change your name.

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 12/10/2007 17:55

I've been chipmonkey right from the start, with one or two personal embarrassing ones. I have once or twice changed my main name but always change back because I don't like it when people I "know" don't recognise me!

I've only changed my name once - for fun, not for an embarrassing moment - and I felt all claok-and-dagger and daring.

But then it all went wrong and I insulted cod.

AitchTwoOh · 12/10/2007 18:07

nope, i don't change my name in a mysterious sort of way. i do it for a joke but always make it clear who i am.
don't really have an opinion on why other people do it, i suppose i'm pissing around on here half the time but i might namechange if i had something deeply personal to talk about. luckily i'm very shallow so the situation's never come up.

ChasingSquirrels · 12/10/2007 18:08

I don't. I have posted under 3 other names, the 1st was by firstname and the initial of my surname - which I soon changed when I realised people didn't do that. 2nd wad ChasingRabbits (the dog was lying on the floor having one of those chasing rabbits moments), which I then changed to Squirrels when I realised the rabbit connotations!

Quadrophenia · 12/10/2007 18:10

I have had a few different names over the years, I do namechange if posting something personal but thats only since I had a profile. Actually having a profile has made me very paranoid about what i post, and i certainly use MN diferently now. Don't mona about rl folk half as much...

ChantillyLace · 12/10/2007 18:12

I've changed my name once, when I first joined MN about a year ago I very rarely got a reply to my comments. I know it happens sometimes but I mean hardly ever. ANd there were people on here saying hi to each other but noone acknowledging me. (Not meaning this to sound as moany as I think it is!) so I decided to start again so here I am. People chat to me, react to my comments and even say what a nice name it is! SO I won't be changing anytime soon, apart perhaps from Halloween and CHristmas.

Surfermum · 12/10/2007 18:12

I changed my name to a pirate name on Talk like a Pirate Day but it felt really weird. I thought I might stick with it, and that it might make me bold and more outspoken than I usually am, but I just couldn't do it.

JacOLantanne · 12/10/2007 18:13

I have a new Halloweeny one -my first ever . I haven't posted anything really personal yet so would probably name change for that.

kittylouise · 12/10/2007 18:13

Have only been here a couple of months, but have not yet felt the need to name change. And I can't be bothered with the faff, to be honest.

But I wish I had chosen something more interesting to call myself. There are a load of kitty variations on the site!!

Lauriefairycake · 12/10/2007 18:15

nope, never name changed, don't care if anyone 'knows' me here or in rl. Don't give a toss what anyone thinks of me.

happy to talk about embarassing stuff openly too (again here and in rl)

Totally understand why other people do - so many people on here who have weirdo friends/families/relationships who 'stalk' them on here/try and figure out who they are.

IntergalacticWarlock · 12/10/2007 18:19

Had 2 major name changes to become The Walrus, and many jokey ones/confidential ones but none to be catty etc

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 18:19

I would get spotted in about 10 secs flat

in fact I have done it and I did

NappiesLaGore · 12/10/2007 18:21

lol at aitch 'luckily im shallow'

im a multiple personality sort of person - well, i do have quite wildly different moods from one week to another... so sometimes i change coz i dont really feel like me... but ultimately, i like to be recognised by my pals on here so i kind of stick to the nappies name... tho id prefer not to be known as a recepticle for crap so maybe an inspired name change of the permanent -ish kind is an idea... but then again, do i really give a monkeys?

im rubbish at decision making. can you tell?

Roobie · 12/10/2007 18:22

Had a very lame Christmas one a couple of years ago but generally can't be bothered with name changes. I'm not on here often enough anyway to have a particular persona to protect.

TellusMater · 12/10/2007 18:23

I'm on my third MN incarnation, but I'm a serial namechanger only. I don't play the field.

hollyhobbie · 12/10/2007 18:28

I had a previous name but posted on a really personal topic using it, and then realised that everyone else on the topic had name changed (duh). So for me that name has been consigned to the bin.
Don't quite know where hollyhobbie came from (I mean don't know why I was thinking about her). My first name begins with H but it isn't Holly, so I always find it a bit odd when people reply to me and call me 'Holly'

wideload · 12/10/2007 18:44

I am a long timer, (2004) I change my name every 100 posts. I tend to get to about 94 and spill to much info which could lead to me, so far this year I have had 45 names. i love it, you can be whoever you want to be then, and no one knows anything.
