I do I do and the reason is plain and simple. I know people I work with that use this site and I don't want them to suspect who I am.

I bet most of you have several usernames for the same reasons right?

I am like both Wideload and MysteryPerson... well, I have a typical name, but I often change to (maybe) make sure nobody can tie up my details and figure out who I am in RL.

Problem with relationships on MN is that they can be good or bad... I'm too much of a wimp to deal with the bad, so can live without possible good ones.

Something striking recently... I said something in a thread which somebody else went ballistic at. And I KNOW that if she had known me as previous identity she would have taken it far better.

flamingtoaster · 12/10/2007 19:53

I've only got this name - and I've got this name because I am known for setting toasters on fire ...

2hot2care · 12/10/2007 19:57

name change...never!
actually, i was accused of being 2 people the other night, one male one female and having a conversation with myself !

wideload · 12/10/2007 20:05

In that case flamingtoaster I should be flaming teatowels, or MyMobilesLostIsItInTheFreezerForTheThirdTimeThisMonthWithTheCarKeys

RustyBear · 12/10/2007 20:10

I've had various joke/themed/seasonal names, plus variations on Rusty/rustybear. I changed to AttilaTheMum as a joke on the 'Attila's Army' thread & kept it for a few months because people kept saying what a good name it is. But I finally changed back because I was getting confused with AttilaTheMeerkat.
I do namechange occasionally if I'm posting anything about DD or DS, partly because their photos are on my profile, but also because DD knows my RustyBear name. She sometimes posts on here, but annoyingly, I don't know her name...

MobilesLostIsItInTheFreezer · 12/10/2007 20:11

heh it's me.

hunkermunker · 12/10/2007 20:13

Sorry TellusMater

I like your name.

wideload · 12/10/2007 20:18

thread hijack
Hunker about 6 months ago did we all take your name and make funny versions of it? I ask because for some reason (I don't know why) I have a version of your name on my list of names. I am going to ask Olivia if she can take some names of me, but was just wondering.
hijack over

ScaryScaryNight · 12/10/2007 20:20

I think TellusMater is an extremely clever name on more level than one!

hunkermunker · 12/10/2007 20:23

WL, I'm intrigued as to who you are (well, who you have been, I guess!) - I joined MN in 2004 too - and yes, probably, there are loads of MNers with a hunker something in their namechange lists

MysteryPerson · 12/10/2007 20:34

Nobody is who they say - Am I right?

lissiethevampireslayer · 12/10/2007 20:45

ive pretty much kept the lissie theme going through halloween/christmas/just bored namechanges and obv i have one for vv personal stuff, and i once changed when i found out i was pg and didnt want to jinx it. but forgot to change back from lissie so replied as "me" on that thread.

foxinsocks · 12/10/2007 20:46

I can never be arsed . I'd never remember what I'd changed to either.

southeastastra · 12/10/2007 20:48

fox that sums it up

RosaTransylvania · 12/10/2007 21:01

This is my Halloween name. I hope people know who I am though. I have never had 'extra' names apart from this one.

2hot2care · 12/10/2007 21:24

mysteryperson; you said you change your name because people at work would know its you, but how would they know. you wouldnt use your rl name on here?

i think its obvious who people are on here by their style of saying things, spelling etc. id forget who i was supposed to be and give the game away in 5 minutes.

i have noticed that anyone on here that starts a thread in anyway "controversial" gets accused of being a troll. ? very strange.

wideload · 12/10/2007 21:29

I do it for my pleasure and I sure don't get many pleasures. if people know who I am I don't mind really.

SweetCherryPie · 12/10/2007 21:36

I name change quite a bit. It's so my opinions are judged on what i say rather than my name if that makes sense. On a thread today a woman refered to things i had said on an old thread that was done ages ago

formerlyknownasfatslag · 12/10/2007 21:40

People kept saying they didn't like calling me "fatslag". Don't really get it myself, after all if I chose the name I obviously don't have a problem with people using it. I thought it was funny and appropriate being large around the rear end and an ol' slapper according to my friends.

Still, if the boot don't fit...

WeeWitchyWilkie · 12/10/2007 21:42

Nope - been Wilkie for the whole time. Only changed names after a nasty thread where I got flamed but found it too much hassle to remember I wasn't me anymore.

Don't have my photos up anymore though.

2hot2care · 12/10/2007 21:54

sweetcherrypie; that happened to me a few days ago. i posted on a thread about 2 months ago and someone went and found it and added it to the thread i was on this week eerie......
