I do I do and the reason is plain and simple. I know people I work with that use this site and I don't want them to suspect who I am.

I bet most of you have several usernames for the same reasons right?

I dont slag people of, I wouldn't want it so I don't do it. I got the wrong end of the stick sorry sKerry.

ScaryScaryNight · 12/10/2007 19:37

I am mostly Starry. Now I am in halloweeny mood. I have another in mind for Christmas.

I have name changed on a few occasions for something really personal (and embarrasing), as after all, I do go to meetups

TellusMater · 12/10/2007 19:37

I was about to post that none of us are actually being above board, even if we don't name change that often, due to the whole talkname thing, but then Lorayn came along...

I think perhaps you are taking MN a bit too seriously if think always posting your views under the same pseudonym is somehow more meritworthy than changing it. Surely we should judge posts by their content, not the name at the top (although it's certainly true that different posters get different reactions for essentially the same opinions). I hate the whole "are you a namechanger?" thing.

But then that's probably because I am billynomates part of no particular social in-group (see how I avoided the c-word there? ).

I have namechanged. Once when I was asking about adoption because I was so unhappy during my pregnancy, people were lovely, I owned up when there was a happy ending
Once when I upset a close friend by making comments about events in the past to do with her, and I was too embarrassed to show my face for a few weeks
Once when I felt like nobody liked me any more, but it was weirdy because I felt like I had a different persona with each name, and I still manage to offend someone eventually so ended up going back to my normal name.
And once because I deregistrered in a fit of flouncing, and the next day () I tried to come back on, and it wouldn't let me.
So I halloweened it and then asked MNHQ to sort me back to my old name. Which sweet Olivia is now doing, I think.

Strangely I feel more popular as FA than I do in real life!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 12/10/2007 19:40

Lol Tellus, sorry. But then like I said, I wish I had chosen a different name in the very beginning, so I kind of wish to be underhand

Name changing to attack people isn't the same thing - there are plenty of "above board" reasons to name change.

Now I'm backin gout of this

wideload · 12/10/2007 19:42

Ooh I do like your name tellusmater. I think I get a bit obsessed with the name change thing, I can spend all day thinking of a new name.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 12/10/2007 19:42

Totally agree with sKerrymum that name changing to atack is wrong, its also against MN guidelines anyway.

I keep my name not becuase of any misplaced sense of superiority, but because I have a family with complex needs and many posters know that so if they know who I am can tailor advice to sut me without a 3 page explanation rom me beforehand.

xXxamyxXx · 12/10/2007 19:43

dont see the point unless its to discuss something embaressing but the op always seem to forget and reveal their identity

TellusMater · 12/10/2007 19:44

But why?

Is it the in-group thing?

I don't have 'friends' as such on MN, so I would neither know nor care if someone name-changed to attack me. I suppose you might try and avoid the poster in question, but if they were always nice to you under their 'real' name, would it really matter. Unless you knew them in RL perhaps. But then is that different? < at own argument...>

Tricky one...

FllightAttendant · 12/10/2007 19:44

Oh, sKerry, I did that once - agreed with myself on a thread!!!!! hee hee

I was very sensible and fair in my post, I have to admit

In fact I believe I sorted out a fight between two MNers. Excellent stuff. Incognito Jeremy Kyle.

I promise never to do it again

2HappyFrighteningPeople · 12/10/2007 19:45

Oh I also sometimes name change when I think I have thought up a better name... but it will never beat sheepgomeep, or thedevilwearsprimark or names like that

Hi, Chantillylace

No, no change for me so far. I'll change my name when I change my knickers. God knows when that will be.

MrsFogi · 12/10/2007 19:47

I've only changed name once when I grew out of my old name.

hunkermunker · 12/10/2007 19:48

I never namechange for personal reasons.

I do occasionally namechange for frivolous reasons. Less so recently. I like to be hunkermunker and then people know where they are. Can't be arsed with people going "ooh, is that you, Hunker" and me going "yeahyeah" when I'm trying to make a serious point (I do that sometimes too).

TellusMater · 12/10/2007 19:48

Oooh - do you really like it? Was thinking of changing to something less classical...

FllightAttendant · 12/10/2007 19:49

I saw a great one today on the

hunkermunker · 12/10/2007 19:49

And I've made some really, really lovely friends on here - I'm matron of honour to one of 'em next month

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 12/10/2007 19:50

I think its a good name too, TellUs, I wanted to pinch someones name from a chat room I go in soemtimes, they are called VictorianSqualor and for some reason, I love it.

TellusMater · 12/10/2007 19:50

But my question Kerry is why does it matter? Report it or ignore it.

Obviously not condoning breaking the MN rules, God forbid...

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 12/10/2007 19:52

Sorry but PMSl at anyone being scared of me

Unless youa re employed by the local LEA or are an Obstretrician who thinks they are about to ban me from my homebirth , but assuming not........

TellusMater · 12/10/2007 19:52

OK OK Hunker. Now I feel even more like a bloody social pariah...
