The interviewer was named George:

That's another tweet that will not age well.

It doesn't exactly elevate the office of either Supreme Court Judge or US Representative, does it?

lionheart · 27/10/2020 00:47

No. But it is in keeping with the past four years of corrosion and degradation.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 27/10/2020 07:08

One week to go.

From the Guardian:

Twitter has slapped a warning label on a Trump tweet that can only be read as part of Trump’s attempt to steal the current election.

To read the tweet you must click through the warning: “Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about how to participate in an election or another civic process.”

In the tweet, sent late Monday, Trump asserts that counting in the election must be completed on 3 November. That is an entirely baseless assertion invented by him, to serve his political purposes.

Counting in US elections always goes after midnight on election day. Three of the past five US presidential elections – in 2000, 2004 and 2016 – were called after midnight on election day.

And this year, elections officials know that the counting of a significant share of votes will go past midnight in heavily Democratic areas in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania. That in part stems from an unusual flow of mail-in ballots amid the pandemic.

So it’s no secret why Trump would want to impose a rule he made up with no grounding in law or precedent on the election: he wants to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of people so he has a chance of winning.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 27/10/2020 07:18

Oh and remember Susan "concerned" Collins? She actually voted against the confirmation. The only Repug to dissent.
The cynic in me would say that's her trying to garner some votes in Maine where she's in 'deep doo-doo' but at the same time knowing that her vote against would make no difference to the outcome.

More of these election decisions concerning other states to come before SCOTUS in the next few days. They now have Coney-Barrett starting work immediately to shift the balance even further.

From Washington Post:
The Supreme Court on Monday night rejected a pandemic-related request from Democrats and civil rights groups to extend the deadline for counting mail-in ballots received after Election Day in the key battleground state of Wisconsin.
The vote was 5 to 3, with the Republican-nominated conservatives in the majority and the Democratic-nominated liberals in dissent. The court’s order showed the deep division within the court about the series of pandemic-related election cases that have come to dominate its agenda.

This is what our old friend, Blubber Brett had to say:

This is chilling, from Justice Kavanaugh in the Wisconsin voting rights case:
“If the apparent winner the morning after the election ends up losing due to late-arriving ballots, charges of a rigged election could explode.”
He’s down to steal this thing.

Yes... she's in then. I wonder if it will be a lifetime appointment. I feel it doesn't say much for her character that she was prepared to be rushed through 8 days before the election, and 60million votes already cast.

And her first public appearance since her appointment is Trump taking her out on the balcony to applause below. And that is now part of a campaign ad for Trump. Hmm

The 48 senators who voted against Barrett represent 13.5 million more people than the 52 senators who voted for her.

lionheart · 27/10/2020 08:41

Lots of talk about that deadline vote.

Bit also about extpanding Scotus, at least so that it reflects 13 circuits and not 9.

BruceAndNosh · 27/10/2020 08:56

I don't hold out much hope but it would be a slap in the face for Trump if the first thing Barratt did was vote against him

“Today … will go down as one of the darkest days in the 231-year history of the United States Senate,” the New York Democrat said. “Let the record show that tonight the Republican Senate majority decided to thwart the will of the people and confirm a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court in the middle of a presidential election after more than 60 million Americans have voted.”

“Here, at this late hour, at the end of this sordid chapter in the history of the Senate, the history of the Supreme Court, my deepest and greatest sadness is for the American people,” Schumer concluded.

Roussette · 27/10/2020 10:02

“History will record that by brute political force … this Republican majority confirmed a lifetime appointment on the eve of an election,” he said. “A justice who will alter the lives and freedoms of the American people while they stood in line to vote.”

Trump's trail of death across the country

Anyone else keeping busy and trying not to think too much about it until election day?

I can't believe it will be next Tuesday.

HoldMyLobster · 27/10/2020 11:37

I couldn't have put it better.

Meanwhile she continues to refuse to answer the question of whether she's voting for Trump, insisting that Mainers aren't interested.

Which is odd because that question has been asked repeatedly and very publicly.

Meanwhile literally every ad I see now is anti-Collins.

Yes he was 70 miles from us last Sunday. We've kept infections low here but when we have events like this that's when we see spikes.

Yes. Just now thinking about the timings but it all gives me flashbacks to the last time round and that absolutely sick feeling in the small hours.
HoldMyLobster · 27/10/2020 12:24

I was thinking of taking the 3rd off work, but actually I'm going to take the 4th off. No one's going to be in any state to do anything that day, whoever they support. I'm sure I'm not going to get many support requests that day.
