To think new laws are needed ASAP to protect Mrs Hinch and other influencers

Mrs Hinch has the number 1 best selling book at the moment where she goes into the heartbreaking trolling she received on tattle. They've been critical at everything from her weight, to her parenting and how her husband looks. It's virtually broken her at times and she felt like quiting the internet all together.

Why isn't this illegal today? Why do people think it's acceptable to give harrasment and hate speech because someone makes their money on social media. In no other workplace would this be accepted. Have people forgotten that Caroline Flack took her own life and nothing has changed :(

It's not the workplace of the people making those comments though. Unpleasant as it is, I don't see how you could construct a workable law banning anyone making negative comments on social media. It's not hate speech. That term is sometimes really overused.

Nothing you've described it harassment or hate speech - both of those are illegal. You cannot make it illegal to comment, even negatively, about another person - obviously. If she blocks them and they make a new account to contact her, that is harassment and it is illegal but it's almost impossible to prove so making a new explicit law wouldn't change that. We shouldn't be spending tax payers money on this. Mrs Hinch, as lovely as she is, is a grown adult who is able to delete, close, look away from, not read (etc) her account or comments. If she chose, she could filter comments onto her site etc, she could avoid viewing media reports about her. There's no law that could be introduced to prevent people being negative about other people - it's not physically possible to enforce it and it would violate human rights. It's all very sad but it is what it is.

You need to go and look up the definition of trolling (and so does Mrs Hinch).

I really don't think people should troll in this way people do commit suicide because of it. But come on. When she got into influencing this was already how it was. She can't say she didn't know what she was getting into and had made an awful lot of money from it. So really she could have chosen not to make herself a public figure. But she did know people are this vile. I would not choose to be famous of any kind for this reason. I think when people choose this path for themselves they need to not then complain about shit the knew would happen. It doesn't mean that stuff is ok but we need to be realistic in what actually happens.

If she is getting threatened or harassed, that's already illegal. If it's just people being critical of her Instagram page, they're not actually doing anything wrong. And if it's people being cruel about her appearance then that's horrible but I don't think it's something you can legislate for.

Tattlers would tell you, as they state very clearly multiple times on threads over there, that the forum exists so that influencers (who habitually have any constructive criticism wiped from their comments sections, especially if they are managed by Gleam, which Mrs Hinch is) can be freely criticised (which many need to be), WITHOUT bringing it to their own platforms, which would be trolling.

The online space is entirely separate from any creative platforms used by influencers. If they read anything negative about themselves on Tattle, it is because they have actively sought that stuff out. And to be fair, most of the discussion on Tattle surrounds interesting topics such as ad disclosure and creative integrity. Which is fair game, in terms of having a negative opinion.

I actually admire Mrs Hinch - she is gorgeous and she managed to build a business around cleaning her place. It sounds so simple it's genius.

Unpleasant as they might be, people are allowed to dislike the colour of her decor and if I vaguely follow, complaints about the amount of chemical used.

Confusing hate speech (I have seen some posts about Meghan which were truly vile and ARE illegal) and negative feedback or points of view is ridiculous and unhelpful.

She makes her money from displaying her life on social media, she makes money precisely because people comment on her, unfortunately that means taking the bad with the good.
No of course death threats are illegal but she is inviting an opinion on everything she does by posting about it.

If there are any laws around influencers that need to be tightened, they are those laws surrounding advertising laws, and the ways in which influencers put their own children to work to generate views.

I have just been on tattle, calling someone I quote "That little cunt!! She's had that up her sleeve since day one* is not on, and should be banned. (it's not Mrs Hinch).

Imo influencers do more harm than harm is done to them.

I have looked at a few threads on Tattle, not hers I admit, but what I see on that is comments holding influencers to account around what they say and what they do and more importantly don’t disclose.

There should be some sort of regulation around these people who don’t clearly state #ad

There is one influencer who has a very active Tattle thread and it is more about the not clearly disclosing ads and gifts, deleting genuine comments that she obviously feels don’t fit her brand - not trolling comments but asking questions around her supposed activism and finally how unrelatable she is.

It’s good that there is a platform to hold these people to account, particularly when they are making money from it

Tattle makes someone a lot of money. I doubt they give a toss about what is said on there.

I can never understand why influencers who receive death threats don't remove themselves, and especially their children, from public social media accounts altogether.

tattle is mostly people being honest!

She has to take the good and the bad and she's clearly more than happy to take the millions it raises for her and her over exposed family.

I have read so much about tattle in the last few days/weeks, I am starting to wonder if they are not just boosting their numbers by starting negative threads
