This is a tricky one. I loathe Boris Johnson - but this is about any PM. Not just him.

Yes, they get the flat at Downing Street. It's rent free. He doesn't have commuting costs.

But this is the top job in the country. Massive responsibility. Lots of hours of work.

Should the PM be paid more? (any PM BTW)

I really don't think they should.

They have pretty much no expenses, as everything is claimed back, and they have a generous wage already.

Bojo is struggling as a result of his own life choices (while telling us mere minions that we need to consider our life choices).

Totickleamockingbird · 19/09/2020 20:11

This really isn’t the top job in the country. And he is paid very well if you consider the full benefits any PM receives after leaving the job. So it comes with huge perks.
He should have used condoms.

Dinocan · 19/09/2020 20:12

No. 150k is more than adequate for anyone. They know the salary when they chose to run for PM. Plus they might be really shit at the job Wink. Certain people would have been turfed put long ago if they we doing their jobs that ineptly in a business.

Dinocan · 19/09/2020 20:12

*out

chomalungma · 19/09/2020 20:12

What job do you think is the top job then?

Msgiggles30 · 19/09/2020 20:13

£150k seems very low for the job. I'm a teacher and a head of a large secondary could earn nearly £120k so I would have thought 'head' of the country would much higher amount!

Lex345 · 19/09/2020 20:13

I would rather see NMW lifted significantly first; especially for HCAs. I managed a nursing home through the first wave and the care staff were magnificent. They deserve so much more than NMW.

Indecisivelurcher · 19/09/2020 20:14

If we pay more, do we get a better one?

Msgiggles30 · 19/09/2020 20:14

Username6587423 · 19/09/2020 20:15

See I think if politicians were paid about £30k, max £45k with experience and performance targets based by their voters then only those truly passionate and not in it for the money and glory would apply 🤔 Just like teachers, nurses.......etc!

shamalidacdak · 19/09/2020 20:16

Wow that is very low for the most senior MP. I honestly thought he was on double that.

Username6587423 · 19/09/2020 20:16

They should definitely scrap their pay rises and replace with a weekly clap!

mbosnz · 19/09/2020 20:16

I thought it was £150K on top of the standard MP's salary?

And after all, it's not the fault of the taxpayer that Johnson has spawned more children than he can afford to keep to the manner he, their mothers and those children think they should be accustomed? Perhaps he could get a night job stacking shelves? Or Carrie could strap the infant into a van and do deliveries for DPD?

Chocolate4me · 19/09/2020 20:16

I thought they'd be on double that really for the massive responsibility, what do they do once they are no longer prime minister for a living and housing?

Totickleamockingbird · 19/09/2020 20:17

By the way, this complaint that he is skint is probably a first in the British history. A PM with ‘at least’ 6 kids with three women other than his most recent child and partner is a PM who shouldn’t have been a PM just because of the way he can’t plan his own family. It’s obvious he can’t manage his finances and his family’s future needs.
How can he be trusted with a whole country’s finances and future?
But then, this report may be planted by his own camp. He has the stamp of PM in front of his name now so he knows he will earn shitloads the day he gets out. So he is probably trying to skedaddle before the Brexit shit hits the fan and before we actually start to see the recession post-covid. That way, he can always say it wasn’t his fault. And write more shitty columns about it. Hmm

Yes! I’m sure Boris would appreciate that Wink
tiredanddangerous · 19/09/2020 20:19

I think they should have performance related pay. If they don't follow through on their promises they get fuck all. Wonder how much boris would get then.

chomalungma · 19/09/2020 20:19

Top Rank Military eg Air Chief Marshal gets £225,000

The hunger games are real 🤔😉

@Indecisivelurcher

🤣🤣

I must admit compared to some of the salaries I see paid to academy trust heads it does seem low. But also wages for the Spads I thought was 100k in some cases?
Also top NHS staff etc.

What's ironic is I bet those people who aren't qualified for the jobs he's given contracts too (eg his mates!) get paid more than that?!

noblegiraffe · 19/09/2020 20:19

Does he not have any savings?

He needs to get through those before he can claim UC.

Totickleamockingbird · 19/09/2020 20:19

@chomalungma

This really isn’t the top job in the country

What job do you think is the top job then?

I would say that his job is part of a group of jobs that form the ‘top job’ together. He most definitely isn’t running the country all on his own.
SuzieCarmichael · 19/09/2020 20:20

Those of you who think it’s low: what would your wage be if it included your housing, transport, food, bills incl phone etc ... the prime minister’s earnings don’t total £160k, they get a massive amount of benefits in kind. Plus they are an MP so they get the MP’s salary too, including constituency living allowance.

Obviously they also have the use for free of a massive country mansion which includes all food and bills and transport there too.

So add that to your notional personal salary package.

Now, tell me - if you had all that, how much would you estimate that you earn?

AGoatAteIt · 19/09/2020 20:20

Nope. £150k a year, living rent free in central London is ample. His wage would be going a lot further I’m sure, if he hadn’t chosen to have so many children he then needs to financially support and cheated on their mothers, thus costing him a lot of money in the divorce courts. No sympathy for him whatsoever.

MarshaBradyo · 19/09/2020 20:20

£150k does seem low

MPs are working for their £ atm too
