Weird neighbour

He's painted his drive swimming pool blue !!! It clashes with his recently painted garage door (which is actually a really nice shade of sage green). He sanded the paving slabs before he painted those as well. I see it as soon as I get out of bed in a morning and I can see the blue if I'm stood in my kitchen. It's hideous. He's a laughing stock. Everyone walking past are talking about it.

Ha,ha,ha!
That's brilliant.

A bit Hmm but brilliant all the same,at least it'd make me smile when I saw it.

PainintheholeSIL · 12/09/2020 20:20

I wouldn't do it to my driveway but I wouldn't give a shit if my neighbour did it to theirs. Though to be fair I can't even see my neighbours driveway so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rainbowx · 12/09/2020 20:22

Looks great although you are right it clashes with the sage garage! I think you should just let them be the year is 2020 and at lot is the new normal now haha!

Roselilly36 · 12/09/2020 20:23

Yes I agree it’s an odd choice of colour for a drive, but strangely enough I was looking at some properties on RM earlier & one of the houses had very similar blue coloured painted patio, I thought it was a pool at first, perhaps it’s trending.

Illdealwithitinaminute · 12/09/2020 20:24

It's extremely bizarre, don't know why everyone's trying to make out it's normal to paint your drive bright blue, plus if that was my property and he rented it, I would be extremely annoyed!

msflibble · 12/09/2020 20:25

Oh bless him, it does look ridiculous but I do have to admire him quite a bit for following his (admittedly odd) dreams!

It's the sort of thing I might have done if DH wasn't here to be the voice of reason. I was all set to paint our terrace boards in multicolour stripes a few weeks back. I think it would have looked so cheerful! But in truth it would have given me headache.

Shannith · 12/09/2020 20:26

I like it too. It's my favourite colour.

If he was my neighbour I'd be a bit Shockbut he's not. So I think it's ace.

howsicklyarsekissy · 12/09/2020 20:29

Good god l, it's pretty inoffensive you should see some of the things people have to live next to & ontop of. It's nothing

EasternDailyStress · 12/09/2020 20:29

I think it's odd OP. It looks mad to me! Ignore the joy hoovers on here, they seem to take great pleasure in slagging off everyone and everything.

donnadenise · 12/09/2020 20:30

@GinisLife

Please see photo then tell me this isn't freakin weird
It's brilliant Grin
donnadenise · 12/09/2020 20:32

@GinisLife

Christ some of you really do need to get a life. The drive was here when I bought the house and I ain't paying to get rid of it. The weeds are treated all the time and just keep coming back. It's a monstrosity but it's none of my business and was meant to be a bit lighthearted as it's funny. You wouldn't be happy living by it.
I'd love to live near it, it's better then the boring brick paving - I might paint ours.
CoronaBollox · 12/09/2020 20:37

I'm really not lying when I say that I do not care what people down my street do to their property. Of course I might think wtf or ooo I like that, but it would not make me angry etc. I cant be the only one surely?? Does he have children? Could see my DD convincing me to do this. Bring the sea to your front door 😂

Yarboosucks · 12/09/2020 20:39

This is one of those threads where the OP makes a reasonable point but some sort of pack instinct develops and the OP is attacked.

The blue driveway is hideous and will only get to look worse as it ages.

yolio · 12/09/2020 20:45

God that is so funny, sorry OP I know you have to look at it every day.

Looks like the same colour as the disabled bays. If he has a wife/partner he might be trying to drive them to distraction. But really who cares, it's clean and it's awful, but it's the talk of the very NAICE road from what I can see. You are lucky to live there.

But it really is bizarre. Any word from other neighbours?

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 12/09/2020 20:46

I like it. Better than the soulless alternatives.

CoronaBollox · 12/09/2020 20:46

Or maybe most people wouldnt be angry/cry over what other people do. If I woke up to that across the street i would think wtf. Then move on with my day.

Unless they've hand drawn a sign that says "Fuck CoronaBollox" then it's not my problem and I doubt they give a shit what i think.

Libertylee · 12/09/2020 20:46

Maybe he can’t see very well, and the blue drive is like some kind of car landing strip.

ElsieMc · 12/09/2020 20:46

I thought it would be much worse op. Near me is a street where all the houses are different colours and I like it. Its in a lentilly market town. The only one I am not too keen on is the bright orange one with bright blue window frames.

There are quite a few painting in non traditional colours. A friend from school has just painted theirs black. I was shocked when I saw it but it has kind of grown on me. Sort of Adams Family-esque.

Another has recently been painted a navy colour. I stood staring at it trying to decide but its a nice colour. Just the shock of the different. I lived near the most beautiful listed house which was pale pink.

Krampusasbabysitter · 12/09/2020 20:47

@GinisLife Naaa, I think I am going to hang around and continue to call out your judgemental, small-minded bitching... Smile

GinisLife · 12/09/2020 20:48

@CoronaBollox I'm not angry at all. It's none of my business what he does but it's VERY bright ! I did think it might brighten up a few people's evenings what we as a neighbourhood are living with. I didn't expect to get told I was a judgemental cow as a few have - and that was never my intention. It's the most recent in a long line of strange behaviours since they moved in but each to their own. He's doing me no harm. You can probably pick it out from the moon though Smile

springiscoming12 · 12/09/2020 20:50

Wow, that’s awful! I wouldn’t be happy about look at that every day either OP

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 12/09/2020 20:50

It's extremely bizarre, don't know why everyone's trying to make out it's normal to paint your drive bright blue

Some people don't actually care about doing things the 'normal' way - they do what they like and don't care if others like it or not. If doing what they like is illegal or antisocial, that's a problem, but if it's just painting a part of their home an unorthodox colour, it's nobody else's business.

There's an older lady in our town who dresses every single day in very ornate black Victorian-style garb - just like she was on a tin of Quality Street - even just to do mundane things like her grocery shopping. She knows that she isn't complying with any current fashion/clothing norms, but she doesn't actually care and dresses like that because she wants to. Nobody else's business whatsoever - it's her choice; if anybody laughs at her then they're the ones with the problem, not her.

Yes, the landlord might not like it, but he might have already asked for permission and been given it; or be prepared to strip the paint off or repaint it grey or black upon giving (or being given) his notice. In the big scheme of things, it doesn't really matter.

I feel really sorry for people who, because they can't get a deposit together, are trapped in having to pay far more each month in 'dead' rent (to pay somebody else's mortgage on a considerable investment) than owners pay for a mortgage for a comparable house, and then are expected to live so gratefully as though they're being done a massive favour by being allowed to live there and shouldn't be able to do anything whatsoever to make it feel like their own home.

lboogy · 12/09/2020 20:50

I kinda like it. I wish I was that bold

wildcherries · 12/09/2020 20:50

If everyone is talking about this, then they have too little going on.

viques · 12/09/2020 20:51

@Smallsteps88

you should really sort those weeds on your drive OP, before passing comment on anyone else's Wink
Be fair, she's got a very neatly trimmed bush .
