Weird neighbour

He's painted his drive swimming pool blue !!! It clashes with his recently painted garage door (which is actually a really nice shade of sage green). He sanded the paving slabs before he painted those as well. I see it as soon as I get out of bed in a morning and I can see the blue if I'm stood in my kitchen. It's hideous. He's a laughing stock. Everyone walking past are talking about it.

OP posts:
LadyAddle · 12/09/2020 21:23

I like your drive - don’t know why people are being rude about it! It’s nicer than tarmac.

SunshineCake · 12/09/2020 21:24

I think it looks nice.

I saw someone had painted their fences today. I think trying to do a rainbow but didn't have the right colours. It looks nice and bright. I suspect the neighbours aren't happy.

CoronaBollox · 12/09/2020 21:25

I didn't expect to get told I was a judgemental cow as a few have

Hmm I dont think you're being judgemental, a little bit maybe but we all are. He painted his drive bright blue, people will comment. It's posters comments on the thread about how angry/upset they would be if their neighbour did this. It's all rather dramatic and a tad entitled. Most people like I said would raise an eyebrow make a joke about always wanting to live by the sea and move on. I'd hate it on MY drive but thankfully it's not.

Smallsteps88 · 12/09/2020 21:28

they seem to take great pleasure in slagging off everyone and everything.

Not at all like the OP calling people weird and “a laughing stock” then?

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/09/2020 21:30
Hmm
letsgomaths · 12/09/2020 21:32

@Krampusasbabysitter Did somebody mention Hyacinth Bucket?

"Is that Angel Gabriel Blue? I shall need the vicar's confirmation."

Ishihtzuknot · 12/09/2020 21:32

I think it’s nice and stands out personally. Hopefully he’s going for the Disney up theme and painting the house in random bright colours too, balloons and all. You don’t have to look at it just avoid letting your eyes travel in that direction, it’s easy.

elppaenip · 12/09/2020 21:34

It looks both absolutely grim and utterly ludicrous at the same time.

Ilovemypantry · 12/09/2020 21:38

@Libertylee

Maybe he can’t see very well, and the blue drive is like some kind of car landing strip.
That did make me laugh 😂
Ilovemypantry · 12/09/2020 21:40

It’s bloody awful...what was he thinking? Perhaps he’s having some kind of breakdown, poor chap.

quitecontrary123 · 12/09/2020 21:42

@ILikeTrains

I must be tired - I was thinking he had a swimming pool on his drive, as opposed to his indoor swimming pool or outdoor swimming pool, this was his drive swimming pool. I'll get my coat.
That's how I read it too! Was thinking what other colour would you paint a swimming pool? Didn't think it odd at all that someone would have a swimming pool on their drive.
vodkaredbullgirl · 12/09/2020 21:48

Can you imagine sat nav
At the next junction turn right on to Coven Cove Road. Take the next left into Seaside View Avenue. In 400 yards look for the blue driveway. You have reached your destination.

Please be aware how bright the driveway is and put your sunglasses on.

noodlezoodle · 12/09/2020 21:49

That is pretty bizarre, given how lovely the garage door is! If I were you OP I would find it very hard to not chalk fish, seaweed and starfish on it whenever he goes out...

AnyName1 · 12/09/2020 21:50

I knew someone who painted his entire house that very colour. He said he did it wind up the neighbours. Virgin Mary Blue he called it.

Cryalot2 · 12/09/2020 21:51

Maybe he has okd it with his landlord . Maybe you will let them know. All he needs is some aquatic stickers . It seems harmless fun.

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 12/09/2020 21:52

@IntermittentParps

If he's a laughing stock then you and your other neighbours really need to get out more.

Yes, I was going to say this. Get a life.

Agreed. Says more about the OP than the man/neighbour who's not living his life to please his neighbours. Good on him, I love people who don't give a phuck about what judgemental nosy neighbours may think. Live and let live.
SofiaAmes · 12/09/2020 21:52

My swimming pool is painted black. I think I might just paint my drive blue. I think it's a lovely (though rather impractical...car tires will mark it soon) color and most certainly does NOT clash with the green garage door.
You would hate to have me as a neighbor...I have a mural painted on my garage door (one very grumpy neighbor finally told me what he thought the day he moved away) and have been trying to figure out how to entice Banksy to come back to LA and do some controversial artwork (re the homeless) on my very grey and visible to the world (on a cut through street in a wealthy part of Los Angeles) house front.

noodlezoodle · 12/09/2020 21:53

@xoxogossipgirl2020

🤣 I have a similar strange neighbour who has painting his driveway/garden wall swimming pool blue from a bizarre shade of bright green! If he had a garage I would have thought it was the same neighbour!
Hmm now I'm beginning to wonder if it's some sort of secret society signal.
SofiaAmes · 12/09/2020 21:54

I was the scandal of the neighborhood when I moved in 26 years ago and took out my front lawn and planted it all with Xeriscape drought tolerant plants...

Pacif1cDogwood · 12/09/2020 21:58

I really like it.
Including the clash with the garage door colour Grin
But yes, it's very much not In Keeping with the rest of his neighbours, is it? I can see why it would raise eye brows.

For full disclosure, I have a mono block driveway and detest mono block... I may just need to get a paint brush out on the next dry day Halo

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/09/2020 21:58

I saw that episode.

I thought it was Archangel Michael blue, myself, and I'm a theologian (part-time).

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/09/2020 22:00

there used to be a mediterranean restaurant near me that had the floor in the basement that colour, an lots of white - I loved it.
Sadly its a v posh bathroom showroom now.

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 12/09/2020 22:02

Maybe he'll paint his garage to match. Maybe it was a friend or relative's favourite colour. Maybe he is colour blind. Maybe it helps visitors find his house, maybe, maybe, maybe. You have a nice drive, look at that or plant a tree if his drive offends you, He's quirky. I can think of many other things he could do to really cause offence. Maybe be grateful this is all he's done.

diavlo · 12/09/2020 22:09

That is really fucking awful! I am really laid back, but even I would be pissed off about that!!

TorgosPizza · 12/09/2020 22:13

I agree, OP, it's ugly.

Nothing wrong with having an opinion on someone else's tastes, so long as you are polite and don't tell them it's awful. It's hardly unusual to notice such a strange colour choice and be aware that it's odd. He's unlikely to care what anyone else thinks, anyway, if he's bold enough to have chosen bright blue.
