Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Similar to you, Stokes onion chutney, a bit of heaven in every sandwich.

Grapesoda7 · 10/09/2020 13:27

I've gone mad on cartons of peanut punch from the world food section in Sainsburys (Carribean).

Only 80p and so nice cold from the fridge.

speakout · 10/09/2020 13:28

Aldi Very Berry and Really Nutty Granola- I bulk buy!

CathTurnbull · 10/09/2020 13:28

Oh that peanut punch sounds good! Onion chutney also sounds yummy 😋

Tahini, chickpeas and lemon juice. I always have salt and garlic at home anyway. Endless supplies of hummus!

Soapysoap · 10/09/2020 14:04

@dentydown where do you get your tahini? I can never find it when I look.
I love guu chocolate spread. Lasted a day 😂

NewAutumnName · 10/09/2020 14:15

I don't have any to share but I will be trying a few of these in my next online order

UnfinishedSymphon · 10/09/2020 14:24

Chargrilled red peppers in a tall jar from Sainsburys, they are fab. I have them cold chopped up on sandwiches or add them to pasta dishes, always got a jar in the fridge

Harrysmum2020 · 10/09/2020 14:27

In Sainsbury’s world food they have jar of what I call kebab peppers the ones you get with kebabs but Sainsbury’s ones are 10 Xs the spice

LadyLovelyLockz · 10/09/2020 14:39

Tesco do these little nutty seedy bites. Like tiny sesame snaps with added bits & bobs, so good.

FrankiesKnuckle · 10/09/2020 14:44

@Grapesoda7 serges? I bloody love that stuff and happily trip over 10 miles to stock up as I can't get it locally, makes amazing smoothies!
No problem getting it in London usually but I'm outside the M25 now.

My find is beetroot pesto, earthy and smoky garlicky, lovely.

CathTurnbull I read your title as "Hidden germs at the supermarket"! and thought it was something to do with Covid 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 10/09/2020 15:00

Aldi chocolate with salted pretzel pieces - There are no words!

IntermittentParps · 10/09/2020 15:08

An amazing range of crisps in the 'world foods' section (I hate that name) including jalapeno grills and hot chilli curls.

Massively addictive, huge bags and always seem to be on '2 for £1' offer, which is both good and bad.

dentydown · 10/09/2020 16:04

@Soapysoap Tesco’s, but I get it delivered. I went for the biggest, cheapest quantity of tahini I could get! Lol!

NeutralJanet · 10/09/2020 16:07

Aldi Salt and Chilli chicken from the freezer section. Lovely with rice and a bit of Mayflower Chinese curry sauce poured over it.

Mrsjayy · 10/09/2020 16:08

Polish pretzels oh my god so good.much better than others I've tried world food aisle in Morrisons is the only place I've found them

MissConductUS · 10/09/2020 16:11

Shoprite's New York yellow cheddar. It's mild with just the right tang. It makes a heavenly mac and cheese.

ChetChet · 10/09/2020 16:14

I make peanut punch
Peanut butter, condensed milk, milk, vanilla and water for right consistency.

spaghettihoops16 · 10/09/2020 16:16

I bloody love this thread!! Keep your hidden gems coming!

MellowMelly · 10/09/2020 16:20

Aioli. I sit and dip warm slices of crusty baguette in it. It takes me back to my holidays every single time.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/09/2020 16:22

Crispy onions, they're great sprinkled over a salad or soup, but I recently found (it was tipping it down with rain, I had wet hair, and for the sake of half an onion wasn't going to leave the house!) that if you soften them in a little oil and gently fry them, you can substitute them for an actual onion.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/09/2020 16:24

Oh and pomegranate syrup from the world foods aisle. Fab over salads, especially with feta, it tastes almost balsamic-y, but you can also dilute it with sparkling water and it makes a very nice sweet/sour drink.

Mrsjayy · 10/09/2020 16:25

Oo. Crispy onionS

Dryadia · 10/09/2020 16:25

Frozen wild blueberries, organic peach and mango pieces at Ocado. (All separate items). I now have a whole freezer draw of just fruit....

Organic goat milk kefir at Abel & Cole. £1.95 a bottle, lasts 5 days once open!!!!, 3 bottles cover me for 2 weeks drinking 70ml a day. Life saver as I can't drink cows milk.

They also have loads of different organic goat & Sheep cheeses which we are trying out :)
