Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Tesco blackberry and mint lemonade is the best gin mixer, hands down. You won't be disappointed. It's also super cheap and low in calories!

SpearmintPeppermint · 24/09/2020 00:28

I’m limited to what I can order from Sainsbury’s - I’ve discovered Flipz chocolate pretzels, polish cherry Jaffa cakes and Tago strawberry-filled gingerbread hearts.

Greenteandchives · 24/09/2020 14:43

I went to Aldi today armed with a small list constructed from this thread, and came away very disappointed. Nothing at all was to be had, or even looked as it it was out of stock.
I was looking for Mac and Cheese crispbakes
Carlos sourdough pizza bases
Chocolate with pretzel pieces
I also haven’t been able to find the Bon Maman Petites Tartelettes anywhere.
Maybe it’s a regional thing.
Sad Sad Sad

TastelessBracelets · 24/09/2020 18:10

Bon Maman Petites Tartelettes - we have a relatively small Waitrose and they only do the red jam ones - they are in with the mini rolls, cupcakes and the bitesize flapjacks. The big Asda has lemon and I think chocolate ones too. They were not with the ordinary jam tarts but on the end of the prepacked bakery aisle.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/09/2020 19:01

Chocolate ones, you say Bracelettes

The raspberry ones are delicious, and thanks to an earlier comment on this thread, I've discovered (and become addicted to) the lemon ones . . .

but chocolate . . . . .

Porcupine83 · 24/09/2020 19:15

Love this thread! And THANK YOU to whoever suggested the cranberry, raisin and cashew nut bread from Tesco’s ... it’s nice just as is, but toasted with butter it’s bloody lovely. DH and I could have eaten the whole loaf this afternoon.
The only thing I can think of to share atm is Higgidy feta and red pepper quiche. It’s the nicest quiche I’ve ever had by a long way.

Tracklements chilli jam (Waitrose or online direct) is my new favourite savoury breakfast discovery. Avocado toast, cooked breakfast, sausage sandwich, bacon sandwich, eggs on toast... all vastly improved by chilli jam.

Fabulosa disinfectant sprays are a big hit in our house! Perfect for fabrics so using it on school blazers and coats etc. Even the teens like it coz it's not floral.

pinkyboots1 · 25/09/2020 10:47

@Porcupine83 try the bread with Philadelphia on ... it's scrumptious 👍🏼

mollyminniemo · 25/09/2020 11:10

M&S Crunchy Peanut Butter with Maple & Pecan - only discovered recently -it is literally heaven in a jar. I allow myself the occasional spoon, its too good to even put on bread, just insane.

Aldi- Tomato & Mascarpone sir in pasta sauce- its amazing. Again, I spoon some out to just eat alongside sausages/artichokes for lunch, too good to even put on pasta!!

Not as recent- been having for about a year but: Richmond Meat Free Sausages- just read the 1000s of 5 star reviews- quite simply they are the best veggie sausages ever made and low cal too. I buy about 5 packs a week.

Imloosingmyshit · 25/09/2020 11:20

Recently bought seriously good mayonnaise instead of my usual Hellman’s light. I’m never going back. Sorry Hellman’s.

sueelleker · 25/09/2020 11:25

@Imloosingmyshit. Me too! I got a sample sachet at the London Food Festival, and I've never used Hellman's since.

Angrymum22 · 25/09/2020 11:31

I have also been converted to Seriously good mayo. I love the shape of the jars. Much easier to get the last bits out.
Tesco’s Mango salad dressing is another find, much stronger taste than Mary Berries somewhat tasteless version. Love Tesco’s Mango ,lime and coconut chicken, they did cooked and raw version over the summer, I’m disappointed that it’s no longer available.

Thank you - I've now signed up for their good news and offers etc!

ChicCroissant · 25/09/2020 16:09

Is that the Heinz mayo (seriously good)? I bought that after getting a sachet of the light version from a fast-food establishment, it's bloody lovely!

Great thread btw.

OhCobblers · 26/09/2020 15:23

@TastelessBracelets @SchadenfreudePersonified

I've just been to Costco. They have the Bonne Maman tartlettes x 6 boxes taped together for £5.99!!!
Lemon, chocolate and strawberry!!

Less than £1 a box - I shall def be going back!!

deflationexasperation · 26/09/2020 15:38

@porcupine83

We adore that bread, especially nice with a blue cheese on it..

waitingforautumn · 26/09/2020 15:47

I love this thread Grin. I always look at what other people buy in the supermarket and wonder if they buy those items regularly... I always wish I had better routines and plenty of staples I keep going back to but for me every shop is an unfocused expedition of just putting anything I see and fancy into the trolley Blush so my fridge looks diff every week.

Not really anything novel and exciting but I've recently discovered my inner passion for the broccoli and cheese quiches Asda do... so nice for lunch now I'm wfh and can use an oven to make myself something. I will keep going back for more until I'm bored of it. Sorry to anyone reading this who gets snobby about premade meals but I am yet to make a quiche from scratch... perhaps the day I do is the the day I'll never go back, let's see. The other thing is ritualistically seem to get once a week on a Saturday is their baked in store ciabatta... best supermarket bread around. Delicious on day of purchase, would be criminal to toast it.

Anyway that's my rubbish contribution. I'm just going to follow this and see what everyone else has to say Grin.

Porcupine83 · 26/09/2020 16:17

Oooh @deflationexasperation and @pinkyboots1 I hadn’t thought to try it with cheese! Thanks for the suggestion. That will have to be for next week’s loaf though, this week’s disappeared far too quickly Blush

pinkyboots1 · 26/09/2020 17:33

@Porcupine83 you're going to love it👍🏻

Thelnebriati · 26/09/2020 17:49

waitingforautumn If you like their ciabatta try the olive bread, fresh the first day and toasted after that.

Cherrypi · 26/09/2020 19:49

The Tesco rhubarb and custard creams are very nice. Thank you for the recommendation. Almond croissants for breakfast tomorrow.

goose1964 · 26/09/2020 19:57

Pretzel sticks from Tesco, in the Polish section. DD lives practically opposite an Eastern European supermarket and they do them in other flavours too, my favourite is bakon. (not a misspelling)

AllPlayedOut · 26/09/2020 20:02

Twining's Dark Mint tea. It's amazing. I like the idea of peppermint tea but it's too overpowering for me, but this is a blend of black tea and peppermint and it's delicious.
