Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Sacla Nduja pesto, great with pasta, roasted vegetables, barbecue.
Rose Harissa paste, for chillis, bolognese and the tagine pot.
Fresh herbs chopped for salads
Cornichons (chopped up) and capers, mixed into salad, adds texture and flavour.
Chargrilled peppers and sun dried tomatoes in the glass jar, good in salads too.
M&S roast potato seasoning
Crispy onions, just because Smile

@Readandwalk

Tinned steak in MnS got me through lockdown

Delicious. Saw it recommended by Delia Smith.

My grandma always used that exact one when we were kids, so 40 years ago! Tastes amazing, doesn't it?!
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 10/09/2020 22:18

The co-op blackcurrant and lemon curd ice cream is lovely. I never really understood why people would eat ice cream out of the tub with a spoon until I tried that!

Swallowzandamazons · 10/09/2020 22:20

@FenellaVelour

Tesco frozen Portuguese tarts. Bloody lovely.
O. M. G This may be the most dangerous thing I've read for months. REALLY????? Guess who's going to Tesco tomorrow. That's my diet fucked....

*Aldi Benefit cereal - just like Special K before Kelloggs 'improved it'G

Ooh, thanks, I used to love Special K then recently tried it and it was SHIT. I”ll give Aldi’s a go, thank you!

FrankiesKnuckle · 10/09/2020 22:20

@Alwaysinpain I found some in Tesco. Or if you're near an ikea they do a bag of frozen ones like the ones they sell in the cafe.

Keepyourconversationsboring · 10/09/2020 22:21

Yes great recommendation @Mrsdoubtfireswig those Aldi skin on fries are incredible! I could eat a bag to myself Hmm the Aldi beef dripping Yorkshire puds are good too, when I can't be bothered with the faff of making my own

howmanyroads · 10/09/2020 22:21

@Alwaysinpain our tesco has them in the pastry/crumpet/brioche etc aisle

Maverick66 · 10/09/2020 22:22

Wilkolampshade · 10/09/2020 22:25

Sour cherry juice from the Polish section of most supermarkets. Mix with crushed ice and good vodka.

Swallowzandamazons · 10/09/2020 22:31

Frozen beef mince - I buy the 5% stuff from Tesco. Cooks straight from frozen, which makes it an essential in my house where plans can change pretty much at the last minute on at least 4 days a week.

Own brand digestives. As others have said, they're much less sweet and sickly than McVities. In fact, it's own brand for all bickies here.

Bag of wholemeal flour to make my own wraps. It's just a cup of flour, a pinch of salt and some water to mix to a dough. Divide into wee balls and roll out as thin as you can get them on a floured surface before frying in a hot, dry (oil free) pan till cooked. I layer them up with greaseproof paper between and freeze in a zip lock bag, then just take them out one by one as I need them. I get loads from one batch, and they're pennies (okay the supermarket ones aren't expensive, but these are even cheaper). I'm sure white flour would work just as well.

pollysproggle · 10/09/2020 22:33

Salted caramel biscuit cakes from Aldi

Melamine · 10/09/2020 22:34

Chiu chow chilli oil. It’s packed with msg but that just gives it the most amazing savoury taste - I put it on everything (but a tiny bit goes a long way 🔥🔥).

Rebelwithallthecause · 10/09/2020 22:34

Nduja paste from Waitrose 🥰

HappyBumbleBee · 10/09/2020 22:36

Lidl so a pack of two large pizza bases that are lovely! I've resorted to cheating and using those instead of mixing my own x

Movinghouseatlast · 10/09/2020 22:37

Lemon chilli jam is divine.

Amani · 10/09/2020 22:38

A treat for me - cream yum yums from Sainsbury's (cream cake fridge isle) ... soooo good! Grin

Melamine · 10/09/2020 22:39

I also second frozen parathas. SO GOOD!

FrankiesKnuckle · 10/09/2020 22:39

Thought of another - Encona carolina reaper chili mayo, with pretty much anything.

Womencanlift · 10/09/2020 22:43

During lockdown I ended up getting Almond Breeze almond milk but the barista version from my local bakery as they were selling essentials

Much more creamy than standard almond milk and is great for overnight oats

I bought it when the supermarkets were crazy, now things are back to normal it’s a treat

Horseradish from the Polish section is orders of magnitude better than anything else I've ever tried

saveforthat · 10/09/2020 22:51

M&S do a lot of swiss rolls and they are all delicious but the cappuccino one is food of the gods.

SynchroSwimmer · 10/09/2020 22:53

Chilli Jam
Asda extra special range or Stokes from Waitrose.

BrandyandBabycham · 10/09/2020 22:57

I love the chunky chips in Aldi for £1.99. So good! And I love Tesco’s or Asda’s own cauliflower cheese grills. Could eat the whole packet!
