Just a bit of fun. I always end up buying similar food items in my weekly shop. Occasionally I’ll try something new and it’s really nice and I’ll continue to buy it. For example last week I bought some balsamic chutney from Morrison’s- it was so good I’ve added it to most sandwich fillings yum 😋

Have you bought anything new recently which you’ve been really impressed with?

Peanut puffs, sometimes in Tesco in the crisps section in big sharing bags and sometimes in the Polish aisles. Like peanut butter flavour wotsits! Chocolate cherries in liqueur (I'm old school!) Polish section again, Sainsburys.

CrunchyNutNC · 10/09/2020 17:11

Minced garlic from the world food aisle. Fraction of the price of normal minced garlic and in a big jar you can easily fit a spoon in rather than a silly squeezy tube.

GellerYeller · 10/09/2020 17:12

@Cherrypi I bought those on request for a colleague and got asked for id!

JaffaJaffJaffpussycatpuss · 10/09/2020 17:14

Frozen herbs in the freezer aisle that come in a resealable bag and frozen broad beans. I love frozen stuff esp if it's veg.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/09/2020 17:15

Balsamic glaze (or reduction). Drizzle over rocket and Parmesan shavings for a quick and delicious side salad for pasta dishes/pizza.
Another vote for pomegranate molasses. I use it as simple marinade for chicken thighs and pork chops.

nanbread · 10/09/2020 17:17

Oh yes we eat a lot of pomegranate molasses too. Mix with olive oil and garlic and roast veg in it.

Sainsbury do rice cakes with a yogurt flavour topping. Mini ones and larger ones with cranberries and seeds.

M and S do a pack of individual mini tortilla chips. Just right for snacking, or a little lunch with hummus.

Sainsburys pecan and date granola, couldn't see it on the shelf the other day but a man came and 'found' three bags hidden behind another flavour, I think he had cached them, he had two bags I had one.

Artichoke hearts in oil, delicious chopped into pasta, or eaten straight out of the jar hidden by the open fridge door........

My current treat is a little jar of picked white crab meat. They also do brown crab and half and half, but I like the texture of white crab meat. Enough for a pasta dish for one person and a crab sandwich the next day.

Some lovely suggestions on this thread.

Ive been buying this too, and the ginger one two. Keeps in the fridge for ages.
Cherrypi · 10/09/2020 17:22

@GellerYeller they do have a bit of a kick to them.

DrFoxtrot · 10/09/2020 17:35

Great thread!

I'm taking notes!

LittleMissBrainy · 10/09/2020 17:39

Kallo mini dark chocolate rice cakes!! Normally rice cakes taste like pap, but these are AMAZING!! And only 96 calories per pack, which means even if I'm hormonal and scoffed three packs (18 rice cakes!)I've still had less than 300 calories.

poppy2021 · 10/09/2020 17:50

Arran Fine Foods Hot Beetroot Chutney. 80p at Sainsbury's just now. Delicious with goats cheese

Katinski · 10/09/2020 17:58

From the crisps/snacks section in Morries -own brand Cheese Savouries - a 250g bag gives you hundreds of shaped little cheesey bix.
Not been so excited about a snack find since I discovered Pom BearsGrin

GameSetMatch · 10/09/2020 17:59

Linda McCartney’s vegetarian pork Bun, omg! Delicious says it feeds two but definitely only one portion

GameSetMatch · 10/09/2020 17:59

@Cherrypi

Advocaat chocolate bars from the polish section in Asda. 50p
I was going to nominate those! Delicious Wawel chocolate. I get them in Morrison's, 50p each.
Iamnotminterested · 10/09/2020 18:34

'Fake McDonald's Breakfast'

Aldi frozen pork patties, toasting muffins, value cheese slices 99p a pack (just the right amount of flavour and meltiness) and a fried egg.

Better than the real thing, according to my lot ;-)

PaternosterLoft · 10/09/2020 18:43

Jutrzenka Jezyki Classic Biscuits. Like round nutty toffee crisps.

CarbsafterMarbs · 10/09/2020 19:05

@Lemonsaretheonlyfruit I love those gyoza, they’re quite expensive for the amount you get. If you happen to have a Costco card or know someone who does, they do them there. It’s a much bigger bag for about £9 and works out cheaper than the bags you get at the supermarket for £3-£3.50. Costco also sell the Japanese and Korean gyoza which are delicious and my new favourites

fishonabicycle · 10/09/2020 19:05

I am going to have to try making peanut punch! It sounds amazing!

And yes - pomegranate molasses is brilliant for jazzing up salads, sandwiches etc.

Bloomburger · 10/09/2020 19:11

Yes I do bags of mini cinnamon rolls which are lovely. You have to eat the whole bag though.

Sainsbury's do snyders jalapeño pretzel pieces which are lovely hot and spicy broken bits of baked pretzels they're really low calorie for a snack too compared to crisps and nuts.

CarbsafterMarbs · 10/09/2020 19:16

@MotherWol I’ve had that sourdough and rye bread. It’s my favourite bread to have with avocado, egg and a bit of sriracha sauce, or smoked salmon and avocado. Absolutely delicious 😋
