For both, a woman and a man...

OP posts:

I'm 5' 5'' and have been that height since i left school in the 80s. People are definitely getting taller because i felt tall/average height back then but these days i feel pretty short.

3 of my daughters are already taller than me

Laiste · 06/08/2020 16:15

My MIL is always working how 'teeny tiny' she is into the conversation but she's only an inch or so shorter than me! Confused

Figgygal · 06/08/2020 16:16

5ft 7 for women
6ft for men

AgeLikeWine · 06/08/2020 16:19

For British / Irish people, anything over 5’8 for women and 6’ for men.

Average heights vary considerably in different countries, though. I’m 5’11 and I really notice this when I travel around. In Britain, I feel tall. In Mediterranean countries, I feel like a giant. In Scandinavian countries or northern Germany, I feel average.

JellyfishandShells · 06/08/2020 16:19

5’9” for a woman and 6’2” for a man - my DH is 6’ and I’d say he was on the taller side of average.

SengaStrawberry · 06/08/2020 16:23

5ft 9 for a woman
6ft 2 for a man

I’m 5 ft 7 and would say I am taller than average, but not tall.

AuntyPasta · 06/08/2020 16:25

5’10 and up for women
6’2 and up for men

snowone · 06/08/2020 16:26

Man - over 6 ft
Woman - over 5ft 8

willitbetonight · 06/08/2020 16:27

Why are teenagers so much taller now? Are they really?

I'm 5ft 7.5. I would say 5ft 6 and over is tall. 6ft for a man.

Deelish75 · 06/08/2020 16:28

5ft 8 for women
6ftnfor men.

I do think that we are getting taller. I live near a secondary school and each year the kids seem to be getting bigger.

Also both of my DC were born longer than average and both midwives said they were seeing more and more haevier and longer babies each year.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 06/08/2020 16:29

Women over 5.7 ( im.5.10) men over 6ft

Sexnotgender · 06/08/2020 16:31

Women over 5’8”
Men over 6’2”

Cam2020 · 06/08/2020 16:32

I'd, say over 5'8 for women and 6'1 for men.

littlealexhorne · 06/08/2020 16:37

Over 5'7 I think for women, 6'3 for men

tempnamechange98765 · 06/08/2020 16:38

For a woman 5"7 and above.

For a man 6" and above.

StudentHelp · 06/08/2020 16:38

I’d say 5 foot 10 for a woman and 6 foot 4 for a man

Hardbackwriter · 06/08/2020 16:38

Average heights have increased but not by as much as you might think if you're primarily thinking about white people as your reference point. Height obviously varies by ethnicity and it happens that the UK's largest minority groups are groups that are shorter, on average.

justkeeprunning5 · 06/08/2020 16:40

I’m 5’7 and think of myself as average height but having said that I’m taller than most of the women I know. I’d say 5’8 for a woman and over 6ft for a man.

JoJoSM2 · 06/08/2020 17:11

5ft9 and 6ft2

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/08/2020 17:12

@RandomTree

Woman 5'9" Man 6"
Yeah
ZolaGrey · 06/08/2020 17:19

I'm barely 5'2".

Everybody is tall...

Wolfgirrl · 06/08/2020 17:21

I'm 5'9 but very slim so I dont have a tall 'presence'. I once got referred to as 'little Wolf' Confused

I'd say over 6'2 for a man, over 5'10 for a woman to be noticeably tall.

rosiejaune · 06/08/2020 17:54

5'10" for a woman (average is 5'3.5")
6' for a man (average is 5'9")

I am 5'11" (female) so taller than most men. And most of my female friends and family are taller than average, so my concept of average is higher than it really is.

gogorogo · 06/08/2020 18:05

I do think that we are getting taller.

it's marginal though in the UK if your comparing to the last 10 yrs or so.
Babies are heavier because of better nutrition, less smoking etc.

gogorogo · 06/08/2020 18:06

Dutch people are tall, it's the only country I've actually felt average in height.
