For both, a woman and a man...

CMOTDibbler · 06/08/2020 12:34

Women over 5'9, men over 6'2.

DelurkingAJ · 06/08/2020 12:37

I’m 5’10” and the general view is clearly that I’m tall (when I wear heels people often get a shock).

6’3” or so for a chap.

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 06/08/2020 12:40

5"6 and above for a woman and 5"11 and a above for a man.

I think the height of average woman in Scotland is 5"4 and men is 5"9 so 2 inches or more over that is tall to me.

Avelosa · 06/08/2020 12:40

I'm 5ft2 so every woman who is taller than me seems tall to meBlush DP is 6ft5

PeartreeProductions · 06/08/2020 12:42

6 footer for men, and 5"7 for a woman

AuntieStella · 06/08/2020 12:43

5'7 for a woman and >6ft for a man

Chanjer · 06/08/2020 12:45

5' 4"

Jennygentle · 06/08/2020 12:46

The British average for women is 5’3’’ so 5’6’’ and above is surely tall?
Men 6’ is a good height. I don’t know that many men taller than this.

steff13 · 06/08/2020 12:47

I'm 5'8" and I'm taller than most of the women I know. The average here is about 5'4" I think. For a man, I'd consider over 6' tall.

LuluBellaBlue · 06/08/2020 12:47

I do think age counts, I'd say for people say over 30 then 5'6 and 6ft but for younger probably a bit taller? and for older generations a bit less?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/08/2020 12:47

Im 5ft7. I feel about average height... But have problems with dresses and trousers being short.

Men... Well DH is 5ft8 and I call him shorty ;). Maybe 6ft.

JustanotherTuesday · 06/08/2020 12:48

I'm only 4ft 10", so just about everybody seems tall to me Grin

emummy · 06/08/2020 12:48

I’m 6ft 1, definitely tall for a woman! I would say 5:10 for a woman and 6:2 for a man.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 06/08/2020 12:48

@3ormore3

Only 25% of women are 5’6” or taller.
Is that in the world or the Uk? Also I think age plays an important factor, the teenagers these days are much taller than we were.
Took · 06/08/2020 12:50

5’ 7” and above for women.
5’ 10” and above for men.

Frlrlrubert · 06/08/2020 12:53

DD is 75th centile for height, with a predicted adult height of 5'6. According to the red book. She does seem tall compared to most of her peers.

I'm 5'6. I might be taller than 75% of adult women currently, but I'd say at least 50% of my year 10/11 girls are taller than me.

I think the numbers are out of date.

Anyway, I'd say 5'7 and 6'1

SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/08/2020 12:53

Women 180cm+, Men 190cm+

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 06/08/2020 12:57

I'm 5'9" (female) and people describe me as tall if talking about me. I need to buy trousers from tall ranges/ or that are long fit. A fairly large percentage of women are shorter than me so I would say I come into the tall category but not remarkably so. I would probably say 5'7" or above for women. DH is 6'5" and strangers will literally comment on it in the street - which is really weird because we have two totally separate friendship groups in which he is just one of a handful of similar height guys. I swear they used to put something on n the beer in their local when they were teens as from a group of 12 5 are 6'5" or taller. I tend to think of a 6'0" friend from one of those groups as "short" because the other guys are all at least 2.5" taller than him but rationally I know he is several inches taller than the average UK man. So in theory 6' plus for a man but not in the pub with DHs mates.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 06/08/2020 12:59

5'8" and above for a woman
6' and above for a man

FudgeBrownie2019 · 06/08/2020 13:00

I'm 5'8" and any woman taller than me is tall.

For men anything above 6'2" is tall. DS14 is currently 6'3" and I think he could probably hit about 6'6" by the time he's finished.

Enko · 06/08/2020 13:04

I grew up in Scandinavia so for me tall is 2 meters so 6'5

I am 5'7 myself and currently in Denmark and I am just average height here.

In the UK many feel I am tall but to me I am not.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2020 13:06

I'm just under 5'10 and female, DH is 6'2 and DSs 6'2 and 6'3. I'd say we are all tall. In work i'm a giant as all women and most men are below me or at best same height. I go home and i'm tiny. I guess it's all relative.

DS who is 6'2 was saying that they were all sitting one night talking about height as one guy in flat was 6'4 and DS then said he was 6'2 and they all laughed and said he wasn't and he insisted (I measure them on birthdays and add to red book - v sad I know!) so he knew it wasn't a guess.

Then he stood up and stood next to 6'4 guy and they were all "oh yeah". He is quite proportionate and doesn't have long limbs and has other noticeable features other than height so no-one really noticed. DS1 despite only being an inch taller is always noticed as tall but he has very long limbs so guessing that is why.

ThankyouPeter · 06/08/2020 13:08

Some quite varied opinions! I would probably say you are tall if you can't wear standard size clothes and need to buy from a tall range. I'm not sure if there is a standard height used but I think in Next Tall women are designed for 5ft.10 and over... or that might be Dotty P.

Paintedmaypole · 06/08/2020 13:11

5ft 9" for a woman and 6ft 2" for a man. I am 5ft 8" and I think I am tallish but not exceptionally tall. My brother is 6' 2" and I would say he is tall.

MarshaBradyo · 06/08/2020 13:11

5ft 9 for a woman
6ft 1 and over for a man
