For both, a woman and a man...

OP posts:
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/08/2020 13:12

I can't believe you were being filtered out on the basis of your height Hingeandbracket I'm a sucker for a tall man, I never managed to get one.
I'm answer to the OP 5'8 for a woman at least 6 feet for a man.

Paintedmaypole · 06/08/2020 13:14

Waxon I agree that some people look taller than others at the same height. If you have long arms and legs and a head that is proportionally small to your shoulders you look taller. People don't think I am as tall as I am until I stand next to them.

ginnybag · 06/08/2020 13:15

5'7" for a woman, 6ft or so for a man.

But I'm only over 5ft on a good day or in heels, so everyone is taller than me. My short-for-her-age 10 year old DD is currently at my eye-level and will probably be taller than me soon - a lot of her classmates already are!

Lelophants · 06/08/2020 13:15

For women 5ft 7/8
For men 6ft

Redcrayons · 06/08/2020 13:17

Anyone taller than me and I’m 5’10

MitziK · 06/08/2020 13:17

I work with teenagers. For girls, 5'11" is tall and boys, 6'2".

Seriously, they are just all so bloody big, I can guess their age from whether or not they're shorter than me (Age 11), the same height (12 and a half) or 13 and a bit (at least two inches taller).

And I've just found out I've lost two inches in height (yay, osteoporosis tests). I'm going to be the height of the average 11 year old at this rate.

Andthewinnerislucky · 06/08/2020 13:22

Women from 5ft 9. I'm just about 5'7 (sometimes I say 5'6, other times I round it up to 5'7). I've had many friends who're 5'8.

Men - from 6ft 2. Although I've begun to take that down to 6.0. I don't see a lot of what I'll consider 'tall men' about.

I do wonder why it's different for men and women.

Angelina82 · 06/08/2020 13:22

Women 5’ 8”. Men 6 foot.

Flowers009 · 06/08/2020 13:22

Women 5.5
Men 11

Men don't like tall women and women don't like short men. How it's always been

Flowers009 · 06/08/2020 13:24

Sorry did not even read the thread properly

Tall for women is 5.7
Tall for men is 6

TakeASadSong · 06/08/2020 13:24

In general I’d say 5’8 and over for a woman, over 6 ft for a man.

I’m 5’11, though, so to me a tall woman is someone around my height or taller (don’t meet them often!) and a tall guy would be 6’4+

Enko · 06/08/2020 13:26

This article is kinda interesting I just learned the Danes are 4th tallest in the wall so perhaps my average is very skewed :)

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 06/08/2020 13:26

Women 5’ 8”
Men 6’ 2”

JulesCobb · 06/08/2020 13:27

Women 5feet8.
Men 6feet.

Oliversmumsarmy · 06/08/2020 13:28

All my friends are taller than me by some margin. I think the shortest is 5ft 8. Although anyone over 5ft 6” I think is tall.
For men I think 6ft 2” is really quite tall

MurderousChicken · 06/08/2020 13:29

People don't think I am as tall as I am until I stand next to them.
I have the exact same thing. I'm tall and big all over (in proportion I guess) so have big feet, big hands etc. I'm also a terrible sloucher and never wear heels. People never seem to think I'm tall unless I'm standing right next to them and they notice I'm not wearing heels. My DH is 6'2" but very very slim so he appears very tall.

CherryValanc · 06/08/2020 13:30

@SerenDippitty

Woman 5ft 7 and over Man 5ft 10 and over.

I'm 5ft 2.

This would be my exact response - saves my typing it out!
TheTurnOfTheScrew · 06/08/2020 13:30

5'9" for women. That's my height, and I am often described as The Tall One, which friends and colleagues an inch or two shorter don't get.
6'1" for a man.

Andthewinnerislucky · 06/08/2020 13:30

I've also only seen very few women taller than I am in everyday life and I consider myself average height. I think the UK has more short/average height people in general than tall.

Sailingblue · 06/08/2020 13:32

Frlrlrubert I’ve been wondering if the numbers are now a bit out of date. My daughter is on the 91st centile for height and I was surprised that the predicted adult height wasn’t taller. I’m 5ft4 but feel pretty short compared to most people.

DryIce · 06/08/2020 13:35

This is really interesting, I suppose it depends on your perspective

I'm 5'9 and my husband is 6', and I think of us both as the taller side of average.

I'd say tall is 5'10+ for a woman, and 6'2+ for a man

APurpleSquirrel · 06/08/2020 13:35

I'd say 5ft7 for women & over 6ft for men.
I'm 5'8 & people say I'm tall, but I have long legs so not very proportional - I need at least a 34in leg.
DD (nearly 6) is very tall - 122cm, wears clothes for 8-9 year olds, is taller than everyone in her Reception class & also those in Class 1 but according to her red book prediction, as she's consistently on the 91st percentile she'll only be 5'6??? Somehow doubt that! Expect she'll end up taller than me (DH is 5'11).

feelingverylazytoday · 06/08/2020 13:36

Surely this depends on how tall you and your family are.
I'm 5'4" myself.
i would say about 5'6" is tall for a woman. About 5 '10" is tall for a man. My ex is 5 '11" and seemed very tall to me.

SneakyBlinder · 06/08/2020 13:36

I’m 5’10 and generally the tallest woman in most groups so I’d probably say 5’9/10 and above for a woman

6ft and above for a man

Boom45 · 06/08/2020 13:36

Men don't like tall women and women don't like short men. How it's always been
I'm 6ft and I was very popular thank you very much. Not so much now, the wedding ring and small children put most people off.
