Without the risk of this turning into a huge debate/slanging match. What are some films that everyone loves but you think are overrated

I'll start with True Romance

OP posts:
DullDullWeather · 17/07/2020 14:39

Notting Hill
Dune
The Chronicles of Riddick
About a Boy
Sophies Choice

DullDullWeather · 17/07/2020 14:40

Oh and Solaris

Alfiemoon1 · 17/07/2020 14:42

Joker and I am interested in psychology mental health etc but was bored to tears

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:46

Dirty Dancing - it's awful

Pretty woman - I loved it years ago and watched recently and realised how bad the acting was! I think I was drinking wine the first time I watched it!

Musmerian · 17/07/2020 14:47

@SquishyBones - I hate it. No one ever believes me. Sentimental tosh. Also loathe Love Actually and Pretty Woman.

HelpNeededPlease2020 · 17/07/2020 14:49

All Star Wars movies.... surely only made for children - they are pants

BabyLlamaZen · 17/07/2020 14:51

Yes to love actually. The only story I like in that is Alan Rickman's. The rest are overly cheesy, ridiculous and sexist looking back.

See I loved joker from a psychology view, but it irritated me the whole time that it was called Joker. That was not the joker. It was great otherwise, but missing the crucial element of not getting the character right.

Frozen. But I guess I'm not 8.

HoppyHop · 17/07/2020 14:54

Titanic
Dirty Dancing (although like the soundtrack)
Star Wars (all of them. Hope DH isn't reading this or I'll be receiving divorce papers!)

SeasonFinale · 17/07/2020 14:55

Blah blah land

Love Actually

Fuggly · 17/07/2020 14:55

Agree The English Patient and Moulin Rouge

i enjoy Love Actually because it is so cheesy! :)

WriteronaMission · 17/07/2020 14:59

@smallaxe I'm not 100% sure. I know loads of people who loved it, saying it was an amazing look at humanity and survival. But I also know people who said it was overrated. I watched it purely to see what the hype was about and I was left bored.

Cam77 · 17/07/2020 15:11

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult
I’ve seen more than a thousand films from every decade, including virtually every best picture winner, and the Shawshank Redempion is without doubt one of my ten favourite films. An uplifting story beautifully shot, written, acted .... its a very well made film....I judge people who judge others on such a trivial criteria as their favourite XYZ!!

The80sweregreat · 17/07/2020 15:15

La la land had a great ending. The Rest wasn't great.
A Star is born : boring and very over rated. 'In The shallows' song from it was on the radio all the time and drove me mad a few years back. Why keep on remaking it too?

Skyliner001 · 17/07/2020 15:20

Latest little women

lakesidesummer · 17/07/2020 15:21

Forest Gump

PuppyMonkey · 17/07/2020 15:22

Donny Darko
Brokeback Mountain
Lost in Translation
Skyfall (and most James Bond films, but at least the older ones look stylish)
All superhero films including Black Panther
And I know this will infuriate people but I have never yet managed to stay awake for the whole of Blade Runner.

Zisforstripyoss · 17/07/2020 15:24

The Greatest Showman - drivel & rubbish songs.
Notting Hill - cheesey af.
A Star is Born, especially the most recent one with Lady Gaga.
Walk the Line - how the heck did this win an Oscar. It was boring.
Twelve Years a Slave - liked the story & concept but it was so slow.

All utter drivel.

Planterspots · 17/07/2020 15:27

Definitely Shawshank redemption. As another poster said, I too judge anyone who says it’s their favorite film. And Love Actually, just eugh.

HunterAngel · 17/07/2020 15:27

La la land. Watched it, couldn’t tell you what happened five minutes after the credits rolled. Such a bore

The Matrix films. First was okay, the rest were just meh.

The original Star Trek movies. DH loves these but after ten minutes of the stupid ship flying towards another ship I was bored stiff.

FunTimes2020 · 17/07/2020 15:27

Pulp Fiction
The Revenant
And the worst one...The Shape of Water

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 17/07/2020 15:38

Lord of the rings.Utter shite.

ChristmasFluff · 17/07/2020 15:39

Saving Private Ryan - I got bored and went to the gym while my then-husband was watching it, came back, and had seemingly missed nothing.
