Without the risk of this turning into a huge debate/slanging match. What are some films that everyone loves but you think are overrated

I'll start with True Romance

I second Elf ... really don’t get the hype

SurrT · 17/07/2020 17:45

@ShebaShimmyShake you are the first person i've heard say they didn't like Big Hero 6 - how can you not LOVE Baymax? He's the sweetest thing since chocolate and now my kids have me saying "balalalala" during bedtime routine Blush

Soubriquet · 17/07/2020 17:51

I don’t mind big hero 6. I don’t think it was fantastic but I was ok

I hated Moana though...

Scarby9 · 17/07/2020 17:59

La La Land. Such a disappointment.

DownThePlath · 17/07/2020 18:03

Pulp Fiction, too. Finally caved and watched it the other week after DH insisted how brilliant it was. Bored me shitless. I think I enjoyed ten minutes (diner scene) out of the entire thing.

Herebychoice · 17/07/2020 18:10

Black panther over hyped bollocks sub par for a marvel film

Likefootball · 17/07/2020 18:12

Minority Report, I just don't understand it.

AnotherBiteMe · 17/07/2020 18:13

Glad to see my favourite film isn't mentioned ! I would be very cross Grin

For me its Withnail and I

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 17/07/2020 18:18

The Usual Suspects - utter toss. Couldn’t give a fuck who Kaiser Soze was. Wasn’t helped by DP eyeballing me every two minutes as it’s his favourite film.

The Revenant - So very miserable. Googled pictures of kittens as soon as I got out of the cinema just so I could feel happiness again.

Ferris Buellers Day Off - I only made it through the whole film because I was hoping with all my will that Cameron would tell that sociopathic little wanker to fuck off and he’d get his comeuppance.

The Greatest Showman - Wheres the plot?! I wanted to know more about the bearded lady and the other folks.

SnickettyLemon · 17/07/2020 18:20

@Planterspots Dare I ask you what your favourite films are?

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 17/07/2020 18:30

Forest Gump.

Dull, unbelievable sentimental hogwash.

The relationship between the brothers was too perfect to be in any way realistic and therefore move me. Relationships always have some friction, even the very best ones. Frozen did that really well. So did Frasier, although I'm aware that wasn't a film. So by the time the big white blob came along, I was pretty disengaged and actually kind of bored. And then it was just so saccharine and schmaltzy and didn't, to me anyway, really speak about bereavement. There are some films that I don't like but understand why others do, but honestly I can't understand why people like that one. It bored me rigid.

But I'm aware I'm in a minority on this, which is why I mention it in this thread Smile

ImFree2doasiwant · 17/07/2020 18:36

A star is born. It was ok.

Bohemian Rhapsody. I saw it quite late, and from.the hype expected it to be amazing. I enjoyed it. But wasn't blown away by it.

I love that film, but I do think it's often ruined for people watching it for the first time by others constantly saying things like "oh you'll never guess" and "I can't wait to see your reaction" and so on. It makes it impossible just to enjoy organically, if that makes sense, and it does kind of prompt a bit of a "oh who the fuck cares" reaction.

Planterspots · 17/07/2020 18:40

@SnickettyLemon haha sorry I see Shawshank is your favourite..I do actually think it’s a good film - I only judge because SO many people say it’s their favourite I get a bit sick of hearing it. I’ve got too many favourites to list but one is True Romance so I am obviously outraged at the OP Angry

belvoirbeaver · 17/07/2020 18:41

I agree with Star Wars. They're all just stupid.
Mrs Doubtfire
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch (essentially the same film)

Rhine · 17/07/2020 18:43

Moulin Rouge. Love musicals and assumed I’d love it, but found it totally ‘meh.

WingingItSince1973 · 17/07/2020 18:58

Groundhog Day. Watched for the first time ever in my 47 years and what a load of tripe that was 🤣🤣🤣

oldperson1 · 17/07/2020 18:59

The Favourite bonkers and overacting by Olivia Coleman gone right off her

SockYarn · 17/07/2020 19:01

Grease - core message is that you can't just be yourself, you have to change everything you are to get a boyfriend.

Dirty Dancing - pile of shite.
Anything by Quentin Tarantino - not worth watching.

SockYarn · 17/07/2020 19:04

Agree also about LaLa Land - was very excited to see it on a plane, multi oscar winning and all that, bound to be amazing.

Nah. Very dull and not much of a plot. Fail to see what all the fuss is about.

KenAdams · 17/07/2020 19:06

Haha @Oliversmumsarmy I totally agree. It's like a list of films not to watch.

Marvel anything
Star Wars
Star Trek
Lord of the Rings
Scarface
The Godfather
Or most mob based movies that take fucking forever to get to the actual point
Pulp Fiction
Anything with Jim Carey.

Herebychoice · 17/07/2020 19:07

Not really, one was about robbing drug dealers to pay off a gambling debt , the other was about underground boxing and diamondsConfused

They were filmed in the same style maybe that is what confused you

BillywigSting · 17/07/2020 19:07

Another vote for the English patient. Spent the entire film waiting for something interesting to happen then the credits rolled. Most boring film I've ever had the displeasure of enduring.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 17/07/2020 19:07

The godfather
Lost in translation
Only God forgives
