Stopping drinking for a while

Throughout lockdown I've gradually started drinking more and more. I now usually only have one day off a week. Last night I drank way too much and was sick, slept terribly and today I just feel awful mentally and physically. I need to cut back. It's become far too much far too often.

I hate waking in the night with anxiety and having to check my phone to if I put any shit on social media. I don't usually get hangovers but I always feel tired and lacking in motivation. Alcohol has become such a big part of my life but I know it's not healthy and I really need to stop for a while. Anyone else?

Well done @ErinBrockovich on venturing further afield. Keep logging your wins and exploring new things. Alcohol shrinks the world too much and makes us satisfied with living less. It is wonderful to read of everyone's progress here, at whatever level of consumption, we are doing it consciously, and that's the point.
Great thread so helpful IRL @Patbutcherismyhero, every time I type that username I am picturing Pat in her various earrings, although I haven't seen EE in more than 20 years!

Morning everyone! Just checking in. @Patbutcherismyhero can you please signpost where the new thread will be and what you will call it - I'm panicking at the thoughts of not being able to find it Grin

Thanks everyone - this thread really helps to focus me. Alcohol has a lot to answer for.

I've just read a passage in Blackout that's blown me away. It's everything I feel. Posting it here as it articulated a lot of the sentiment on here

Hi everyone. I've created a new thread imaginatively called "stopping drinking for a while - part 2" in the alcohol support section as this one is nearly full. Hope to see everyone there.

I think as everything in excess in this life, is not a positive thing. But if try to stop abruptly it won't last. Make a routine, and stick to it. For instance, drinking only on weekends, that's it. Drinking only on weekends. Go wild, but only on weekends. You can after that decide reduce also on weekends, or not. This simple step will reduce more than 70% your drinking... I was having difficulty with my groceries run and everyday thinking about that: what to buy, where to buy, the budget, etc. So I found this app for my iPhone, Your Best Option, and Done! Not thinking about it any more. Only on weekends, but much more easy. It is not the best analogy but I hope this helps you. You can do it.
