To think 8.00am isn't too early ...

To mow the grass?

We have a very quiet electric mower. And most mornings there are delivery lorries/vans making a racket at 8 (the whole street seems to be extending their house atm, we have a builder's lorry almost every day and they always come early).

The sun is on the back garden until gone 6pm, I work until 2.30 and by the time the grass is in the shade I'm frankly knackered.

Would it really BU to give it a quick mow at 8?

Our ndn decided to cut the hedge separating our gardens at 06:15 one Saturday morning a few weeks ago.
It’d say 9:30 was reasonable.

didireallysaythat · 09/06/2020 20:16

The builders start with the diggers at 8am on the dot - 8amnis just fine mon-sat, just not Sunday

LoveIslandVirgin · 09/06/2020 20:17

My neighbour has her gardeners arrive at 8am and they all leap out of a van with their various tools and mow, strim and clip at the same time. I sleep with windows open (bloody menopause) all year round so it’s always a shock when it starts.

However, if you have a quiet mower and if it’s not a big patch of grass, I’d fire away. You have lots of noise going on anyway at that time!

LoveIslandVirgin · 09/06/2020 20:21

@Sloth66 that’s bang out of order. If he was my neighbour I’d send my pre-med ADHD teenager out to give him a hand. He wouldn’t make a habit of dawn raids on the hedge after that! 🤪

Middersweekly · 09/06/2020 20:33

I personally wouldn’t want to wake anyone up before 9am with a mower but our communal gardener starts work at 8am Monday-Friday and often has strimmers, petrol mowers and leaf blowers out at that time! I am normally awake at that time during the week though. Thankfully he doesn’t work weekends!

AddressLabel · 09/06/2020 20:53

I think it depends on the kind of place you live. The village I live in, particularly the street I live on, all seem to be early risers. My neighbour regularly mows his lawn at 7am before work, and he has a petrol mower.

Another vote for 9 here at the weekend though 8 would be ok weekdays

DarkMintChocolate · 09/06/2020 21:26

Some people forget what it’s like to be up half the night with young children, only to finally get to sleep at 4 am....and then being woken up at 8 am? It makes for another long day, looking after the children on 4 hours sleep!

Imo, it’s BU to now the lawns at 8 am!

Anguspie · 09/06/2020 22:04

It’s way too early have a bacon butty read the paper and chill out for a couple of hours

Hou5e · 09/06/2020 22:06

I love listening to people mowing the lawn in the summer. Especially if it's close enough that you can smell the cut grass. It just makes it feel like summer. It would not bother me in the slightest.

SpilltheTea · 09/06/2020 22:09

I'd wait until 9am, but I personally wouldn't care if someone was doing it at 8am.

Joodleoodle · 09/06/2020 22:11

Weekdays, most people are up and getting ready for work by 8am aren't they? I personally leave at 7.15am so I wouldn't be bothered. Weekends, no way.

LavenderLilacTree · 09/06/2020 22:17

Too early. After 9.30 ok.

TheGinGenie · 09/06/2020 22:20

I would be annoyed with this at 8am when I'm working from home and don't have to get up as early! I wouldn't really do it before 9/10am (or after 7/8pm)

Lennie16 · 09/06/2020 22:21

I think its too early - 9am would be my advise as it seems reasonable- you just know it’s too early if you have to ask - be a considerate neighbour.

lovelilies · 09/06/2020 22:23

We don't get up til gone 9 here so I'd be pissed off with you. Just cut it during the day!

amispeakingenglish · 09/06/2020 22:25

Work men can start at 8 and I think the gov has brought in new rules since covid so they can work longer and 7 days a week, all the posters here must live in quiet places as where I live wouldn't make any difference as we have more or less a motorway built behind our house! Also London very noisy anyway. If I were up and felt like it wouldn't have any qualms about mowing with a quiet electric mower. We have to put up with smelly bbqs and a car repair business in next doors back garden, not strictly legal but better to get on with neighbours. I don't think 7 is that early really.

carexfairex · 09/06/2020 22:28

The sun is on the back garden until gone 6pm, I work until 2.30 and by the time the grass is in the shade I'm frankly knackered.

I might be missing something here but why can't you cut the grass when the sun is on the garden?

Sloth66 · 09/06/2020 22:54

Love island virgin - thank you for that offer.
He did manage to wait till 07:30 before cutting it again last weekend . Maybe lockdown boredom?

Littlepurpledragon · 10/06/2020 00:20

You won't know until you do it, and I'm sure if you annoy them they will let you know!
If you have elderly neighbours either side chances are they were up at dawn's crack anyways!!!!
Personally I don't let the kids out in the garden or put stuff in the recycling bin till after 9am.
I'm sure my garden keen neighbours are busy in their gardens early in the morning but I don't hear them through the double glazing, tv booming and the kids noise!

Ferret27 · 10/06/2020 00:28

Some people work weekends and have days off in the week ... just a thought! I like the sound of mowing...hate the racKet binmen always make shouting at 6.30/7am now that’s really inconsiderate

MinneapolisTransplant · 10/06/2020 01:03

Weekday - perfectly fine! Weekends - maybe a touch early. I'd wait until 10.

squeekums · 10/06/2020 01:12

It's fine. Unless You work until very late at night I think it's really lazy to be asleep at 8am

lmao, well call me queen lazy.

On a weekend or public holiday im never up before 11am , no one in our house is
If i have nothing to do, why get up early? Seems pointless to me.

squeekums · 10/06/2020 01:18

Great idea people need to get up and get a life

Ahh and do what exactly, aint you guys locked down?
So no social groups, nothing open entertainment wise, schools closed, no cinemas or pubs, jobs dropping by the day
What life is there to get?

Plus i dont deem life as getting up at sparrows fart, i deem that torture.
I dont need or want to see the sunrise. Been there, done that

hotstepper4 · 10/06/2020 01:20

Too early I'd be pissed off as your neighbour. Reckon 9.30 is ok
