Anyone saying "I know racism towards black people exist" and then follows this with a "but" needs to really think why they are doing that...

"I'm not racist but" is not a good look.

Neome · 10/06/2020 11:00

If you’ve been around Mumsnet for a while you might have seen threads that start with one title and turn out to be about something else entirely. Sometimes continuing in a series. I can remember infidelity, cancer, alcoholism, domestic abuse turning out to be the real issue.

Sometimes the OP explains the situation in their first post and it turns out to have a different feel from the thread title, it can be a massive or even welcome surprise.

In this thread what you think it’s about can tell you a lot about yourself, and other people’s attitudes to racism.

When the OP of this thread started thread 1 she was exhausted by repeatedly explaining

Racism is racial prejudice + power.
We, as ethnic minorities, know you hold the power. You enslaved us. You still do. You hold all the keys.
I'm truly sorry that your white supremecy is preventing you from seeing reality.

callmeadoctor · 10/06/2020 12:06

Oooops we have a journalist sniffing around this thread......................

callmeadoctor · 10/06/2020 12:07

Sorry, don't mean you Neome , I know its under your post xx

HopeMumsnet · 10/06/2020 12:21

@PlanDeRaccordement

By the way OP, We can tell when you have written “Message deleted by MNHQ. Quotes deleted post” versus when MNHQ does it. So I’m not sure why you’re doing random posts with that sentence? Could you explain?
Hi there, Just to confirm that MNHQ deleted that message and we're currently investigating what appears to be a glitch.
MyEyesightIsBadLetsGoForADrive · 10/06/2020 12:25

Can you elaborate @callmeadoctor?

callmeadoctor · 10/06/2020 12:48

A couple of things on twitter My eyesight, I'm not au fait with how these things work though.......

callmeadoctor · 10/06/2020 12:50

And nothing to do with me, by the way. Don't understand twitter very much (along with instagram and Tik tok!!!)

PatricksRum · 10/06/2020 13:01

@PlanDeRaccordement
You're accusing me of impersonating MNHQ Grin
What's your opinion on the repeated murders of black people at the hands of racist white cops?

OP posts:
PatricksRum · 10/06/2020 13:04

In this thread what you think it’s about can tell you a lot about yourself, and other people’s attitudes to racism.

Very true.
More telling is that these posters have posted on several.thresfs but keep pretending they think this is about white lives. In truth, they just want to turn it around to them.

OP posts:
CovoidanceMechanism · 10/06/2020 13:50

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a thread before where anyone, let alone quite a lot of people, come on and insist that the thread is about what they say it is about based on their preferred interpretation of the title disregarding the OPs original intention and clearly stated continuing explanations

PlanDeRaccordement Wed 10-Jun-20 08:53:06

Wishingstarr
Are you really baffled?

Do you really think it's "policing" to suggest you know exactly what the context of this topic is?
Yes I am
Why is it a thread that clearly states we are to talk about white people and whether they can experience racism being derailed to talk about black people and their experience of racism? Derailed to the point that you feel the need to “police” those of us talking about the original subject given in the title

There is no fucking “context” that naturally has a reader conclude a thread about white people is really supposed to be about black people. Why black people? Why not my people? The world is more than white people and black people. In fact there are more Asian-Chinese ethnic people than any other race in the world

Anyone who can say Why black people? at this time truly astounds me

This is one of the most revealing threads ever. I wish I could say I am shocked but I am sad.

Just reading this alone would show what black people deal with in the UK.

Siameasy · 10/06/2020 21:05

Someone accusing OP of fabricating posts has got to be one of the most insane things I have seen on here - and a transparent attempt at discrediting the OP in the eyes of the other posters

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/06/2020 22:17

Calm down, MNHQ said it was a glitch.
I wasn’t questioning it without cause.

To me on the screen some posts under the OPs name that said “quotes deleted post” were coloured green as in posted by the OP instead of the grey colour of the posts done by MNHQ.

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/06/2020 22:26

Fuck me
Oh Patrick getting told yet again that you havent done this in the correct way?

Oh, so Patricksrum can do no wrong. So, if Patrick’s rum has been entirely in the right, then following her impeccable example, I think I will start a thread that states it is about white people and racism. Then, when the first 350 posts on thread #1 don’t go my way, I will do a PatricksRum and insult, belittle, and hound away every poster posting in good faith about white people and racism that no, it’s MY thread and I NOW SAY MY thread is REALLY about Chinese people and any poster who didn’t realise that white= Chinese and no racism= racism is a fucking racist idiot who can fuck right off.

So I’m fucking off now. V

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/06/2020 22:29

What's your opinion on the repeated murders of black people at the hands of racist white cops?

Several studies have been done on the US police killing of black peoples and found that black cops are more likely to kill a black person than a white cop. Google it.

PatricksRum · 10/06/2020 22:55

As a black person in the UK...

You're white you haven't experienced racism 4
You're white you haven't experienced racism 4

Yes I am.
Why is it a thread that clearly states we are to talk about white people and whether they can experience racism

Where did I state what you are to talk about please?

being derailed to talk about black people and their experience of racism?
Do you understand what derailing is? Going off the topic which the OP BEGAN TO TALK ABOUT

Derailed to the point that you feel the need to “police” those of us talking about the original subject given in the title.
Police you? If we were to police you you would be long gone.
*
There is no fucking “context” that naturally has a reader conclude a thread about white people is really supposed to be about black people.*
Read the opening poets. Do you lack comprehension skills?

Why black people?
Because we are the most oppressed.

Why not my people?
Because you are the least oppressed.

The world is more than white people and black people.
Swear down?

In fact there are more Asian-Chinese ethnic people than any other race in the world.
Amazing.

OP posts:
PatricksRum · 10/06/2020 23:09

surrounded by locals chanting " white boy, white boy."
Racial prejudice

OP posts:
PatricksRum · 10/06/2020 23:26

I think if you read the full threads OP does not take kindly to saying that other racism exists.
Incorrect. I don't take kindly to you people trying to deflect.

In fact every time someone has said I have experienced racism as a white person or even Asian person they get told no that isn't racism.
Please point out where I have said Asians don't experience racism. I'll wait.

Unfortunately the thread title reads that it will be a debate on whether white people face racism,
No debate to be had. They don't.

OP had support once she had explained herself properly
Explain myself properly GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

but she has again and again said that anyone who is white, Asian or even mixed race cannot experience racism
Interesting. I'm mixed race.
Point to me where I have said Asians and mixed race people can't experience racism. I'll wait again.

but saying that only (by OPs definition) very dark skin colours face racism is factually wrong.
Citation needed. I'll be waiting a long time.

Quite simply why post in AIBU with a thread title like this if actually this isn't a discussion at all.
Because I want to. Hth

*Just to reiterate, I as a white person, have found these threads very informative, and it has educated me a lot, thank you OP.

The amount of whataboutery is incredible and I'm saying that as a FWR poster so normally aren't surprised by that! The motivation for the whataboutery is so clear to so many of us it's probably having the very opposite effect that you have intended...*

Ah FWR! I just warmed to you further! Grin

*Oh Patrick getting told yet again that you havent done this in the correct way?

I admire your resilience. And for outing so many posters prejudices*

Thank you!
I think the best things about these threads is the racists it's outed.
Posters I've seen elsewhere like FlaxMeadow to then see them post on here has taught me a lot.
