It should make us hopeful !! Lockdown will definitely be eased and life could go back a bit to normal !

Bullshit. Source?

SockYarn · 15/05/2020 08:33

I don't think anywhere will be "virus free" but it's certainly true that the number or people with it is declining fast, all over the country.

FTMF30 · 15/05/2020 08:34

I don't even need a source. That simply isn't true.

Bumblebee413 · 15/05/2020 08:35

Yes. Because you appear to be living in a complete fantasy land. Try looking into things like information on how viruses spread, look at the public transport situation, how things have developed in other countries as lockdown is eased, or I don't know, science?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/05/2020 08:35

It only takes one person bringing it to London from else

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 15/05/2020 08:35

Why do people waste their time posting such bullshit? What's in it for them? Confused

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/05/2020 08:36

Elsewhere in the uk to spark it off again, you know that? Until herd immunity or vaccine.

I saw a similar newspaper article and also thought bullshit. It’s impossible the capital will be truly virus free any time soon.
The rest of the UK won’t be virus free and people will still travel in and out of London.

Aposterhasnoname · 15/05/2020 08:36

Bullshit. Source?

A number of papers are reporting it.

Figgygal · 15/05/2020 08:37

I saw it in the guardian this morning
It’s unbelievable

KaptenKrusty · 15/05/2020 08:37

Hahahhha 2 weeks time it will kick off again now that people are back on the tube

richteasandcheese · 15/05/2020 08:37

Aah yes, London, with it's big international airport and millions of people moving in and out will be virus free......thanks Daily Mail for this mornings hilarity!

Violetparis · 15/05/2020 08:38

How can anywhere be declared virus free when so few people are being tested ?

countrygirl99 · 15/05/2020 08:39

Sure. See also "the cheque is in the post", "I'm from Head Office, I'm here to help you" and "we are going to get great free trade deals".

Kit19 · 15/05/2020 08:39

hahaha what nonsense! you could at a stretch a big stretch! argue that London could be free of people who have contracted it who get ill but as its asymptomatic in many carriers, you would not know until the entire population is tested who has it and who does not. the day the entire population has been tested is a long way off so its utter bollocks

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 15/05/2020 08:39

To be fair to the OP she hasn’t got this from her mate Steve down the pub: it’s the front page of the Daily Telegraph based on the latest figures from PHE. I’m very sceptical, because unless they set the M25 on fire like in Good Omens people will start coming in and out, but it’s not simply bullshit.

to feel relieved because London could be virus free by the end of the month ??
CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/05/2020 08:40

They are saying that based on the R number being low, but it doesnt take much to change R, a few hundred sweaty tube carriages should do it and they've already shown they are not controlling numbers on the tube or insisting on face masks

VimtoCordial · 15/05/2020 08:41

Having seen the pictures of people in London on public transport I doubt London will be virus free any time soon whatever anyone says.

Oblomov20 · 15/05/2020 08:42

It's in the Guardian and the Telegraph?

I don't understand.

LIZS · 15/05/2020 08:42

With commuting and international airports and hubs it will never be.

GrimmsFairytales · 15/05/2020 08:44

as its asymptomatic in many carriers, you would not know until the entire population is tested who has it and who does not.

THIS //\

A few moments of thinking about this, would show you it's just not possible to make such absurd claims.

withgraceinmyheart · 15/05/2020 08:45

Wow OP, I'm sorry people have responded to you this way. Haven't been on Mumsnet in a while and it seems to have changed a lot.

In answer to your question, yes I've read about that too, and has given me hope. Trying not to get too carried about though, because obviously there are wildly differing theories about what's going to happen next.

Asuitablecat · 15/05/2020 08:46

It's all moved up north.
