It should make us hopeful !! Lockdown will definitely be eased and life could go back a bit to normal !

Why is any glimmer of hope about Corona immediately knocked down on MN?

Thinkingabout1t · 15/05/2020 09:06

Sure. See also "the cheque is in the post", "I'm from Head Office, I'm here to help you" and "we are going to get great free trade deals".

I am also very sceptical. I agree with the person that said, how can they make this claim? They cannot possibly know who has got it!
London also isn't an island as someone else said and by the look of the photos on the tube and people going back to work, it wont be long until its on the rise. Sorry.

TerrapinStation · 15/05/2020 09:07

What an odd question, how could anyone possibly be unreasonable to feel relieve if the virus is reducing? Are their weird people out there who want us to keep on being infected and dying?

oblada · 15/05/2020 09:08

SARS was a coronavirus (I think) and disappeared before the vaccine could be manufactured so it's far from impossible for covid 19 to disappear too. However in truth nobody knows! But yes it seems like a good trend overall.

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:08

Can nobody say anything positive without being shouted down by an angry mob?

It's almost as if you all want more people to die.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/05/2020 09:09

@TerrapinStation sounds to me like its creating a false sense of what is happening in reality. I would be relieved if the virus up and went. Who wouldn't be?

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:09

Virus free? Are you on drugs?

It doesn’t work like that.

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:11

If anything you’re about to see a huge increase from people using public transport and going back to work. 😳

oblada · 15/05/2020 09:11

Gawdsake - it very much can work like that. It may not but it's not impossible.

EmeraldShamrock · 15/05/2020 09:12

@Italianmoma1983 So posters are being unnecessarily aggressive.
Ask HQ can you attach the news source to your OP.

lilgreen · 15/05/2020 09:13

Sky News.

Zeusthemoose · 15/05/2020 09:13

Op I read the same thing this morning. Although I agree that it may not be possible to be sure that anywhere in the country will be virus free the article has given me hope. It's a positive step forward.
The virus may be here to stay but numbers will decrease as they are doing and we will learn to live with it or an effective vaccine will come along.
The responses from some on here are just unbelievable. I don't usually read threads related to Covid on MN anymore as so many posters seemed to have lost the plot.

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:13

It doesn’t work like that. Even China is having another spike. It’s not like SARS that was contained hence why it dissapearwd and a lot less likely to pass on. This is world wide, country wide. It’s not going to magically disappear from a city.

skeptile · 15/05/2020 09:13

If having the actual virus doesn't bestow immunity, how will a vaccine do any better?

Booboostwo · 15/05/2020 09:14

unless they set the M25 on fire like in Good Omens

Please don't give Dominic Cummings more ideas! Grin

rooarsome · 15/05/2020 09:14

I highly doubt it. The headlines are misleading and only looking at the London statistics whilst conveniently ignoring the remainder of the SE and East Anglia. How many of those people (currently at the 0.7mark) commute into London?
It's a nice thought but unlikely

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:15

@Gawdsake2020 it might just mutate to get less and less dangerous and mutate itself away eventually. Isn't that what happened with SARS?

Fairylillie · 15/05/2020 09:15

Until they reopen the airports and let people from America etc fly in......

NathanNathan · 15/05/2020 09:16

MN is great at the moment.

People from outside London...

"you've all got it the worst don't you dare bring it to others places, Londoners coming here spreading it"

London having had the peak earlier than the rest of the country gets a lower R rate as a result of lockdown (logical)

Also people from outside London:

"It's not true, it'll never last, you're all fucked"

Stating to think most of the country just hate London...

BlindAssassin1 · 15/05/2020 09:16

Delusional.

We live on an island and couldn't even stop it coming in and going out. I hardly think the powers that be have the wit to withhold it from the capital.

zscaler · 15/05/2020 09:16

It’s in the telegraph, not some discounted fortune teller - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05/14/london-has-just-24-new-coronavirus-cases-day/amp/

London has 24 new cases a day, and if cases continue to decrease at the current rate will have no new cases by the end of the month. It will still have people with the virus who haven’t yet recovered, however.

The dementors didn’t take long to descent on this thread...

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/05/2020 09:16

Some people won’t be happy until we’re all dead.

skeptile · 15/05/2020 09:16

I think its important to note that both SARS and MERS 'burnt out' naturally before a safe vaccine could make it to market. Why is there such apparent certainty on much of MN that life is over until a vaccine appears?
