It should make us hopeful !! Lockdown will definitely be eased and life could go back a bit to normal !

OP posts:
usernotknown · 15/05/2020 09:17

I'll take any positive news I can get. I'll leave the doom mongers to carry on rubbing their hands in glee that more people will die.

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:17

What happens when people from other counties visit London though? Have the virus ... what will happen? It’ll pass on to someone else. Use your common sense, it’s very misleading that source. It’s died down because of lockdown, now they’re opening up prepare to see big numbers again.
You’re living in la la land if you think it’s going to just vanish, and that’s more dangerous.

Chloemol · 15/05/2020 09:18

And as soon as lockdown lifts it will go back up, look at Germany

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 15/05/2020 09:18

In 1918 everyone celebrated the end of the Spanish Flu.....then the second wave hit and killed more people than the first........

“Stay Alert” .... and listen to the scientists NOT the press.....

trappedsincesundaymorn · 15/05/2020 09:19

Mumsnet at the moment

If the press cite research stating negative findings - believe the research, we're all doomed
If the press cite research stating positive findings - don't believe the research it's the press lying.

I swear some people just want this to go on because they enjoy the drama and get some sort of weird kick out of misery.

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:19

@Gawdsake2020

They'll be quarantined now won't they?

It's almost like you're enjoying it and want it to get worse. Why is that?

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:19

Exactly @buggeroff this is just the start!

GrimmsFairytales · 15/05/2020 09:20

They'll be quarantined now won't they?

Who will?

thatgingergirl · 15/05/2020 09:21

It is very, very good news that the number of new cases has decreased so much.

I don't think it is possible to categorically state "virus free", but certainly low enough numbers to be able to continue with small measures to relax lockdown.

Even New Zealand has one new case today. But obviously, it is easier to deal with one case (or even 24 a day) than hundreds.

TooTrueToBeGood · 15/05/2020 09:21

Some people won’t be happy until we’re all dead.

Some people won't be happy until we all pretend there is no risk and never really was, the government isn't incompetent and we still haven't got track and trace, efficient testing or sufficient PPE for HCPs.

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:21

If you listen to "the scientists" ie Chris witty he will tell you it's not the certain death that most of MN would have you believe it is.

Get this!! The government are taking advice from the scientists Shock

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:21

Enjoying it? Because I disagree with what you’re saying? Stop being ridiculous. It’s called educating yourself and not listening to the press like it’s gospel.
You only need to look at the other countries to see they are having increases after reopening. 🙇🏻‍♀️
If you want to live in lala land go for it, the rest of us will stay firmly on our feet.

Summertime2 · 15/05/2020 09:21

Wow, from the responses you might be forgiven for thinking some people REALLY don't want this to be true.

Maybe now there needs to be to a campaign telling people from Wales or the the "countryside" to "stay away and don't bring your infections here"
Wink

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:21

@GrimmsFairytales people flying in? Didn't Boris say that would happen soon?

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:23

@Gawdsake2020 I'm not taking the press as gospel but they do have sources you know. they've not send their apprentice news reporter out to collect figures have they?

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 09:23

They'll be quarantined now won't they?

FYI not everyone shows symptoms.. how can you quarantine someone who doesn’t even know they have it? Hmm

SpencerReidsMistress · 15/05/2020 09:23

@IDefinitelyHaveFriends your reference to Good Omens makes me happy 😂😁

Winterwoollies · 15/05/2020 09:24

Gosh, spot the people who don’t read a variety of news sources and so launched straight to the abuse of the OP...

MarshaBradyo · 15/05/2020 09:25

From another thread

apple.news/AQChr2oq-SKqjEdQMD53_xQ

According to this sky news article London are only seeing 24 new cases a day, whilst the NE are seeing 4000.

It is a big discrepancy. I had no idea

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/05/2020 09:25

TooTrueToBeGood absolutely not pretending there is no risk. My jobis assessing risk. I know what the risks are.
As soon as anyone on this site posts anything remotely positive they get told they’re ‘deluded’ or ‘living in lala land’. Surely a better way to discuss this would be something like ‘that’s interesting. Not sure how that can be the case though as people will be commuting into London and bringing new infections in with them’. Why the rush to declare that it’s all ‘bullshit’ and that the OP (who is merely quoting a study) is ‘deluded’?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/05/2020 09:25

OP- this is BRILLIANT news and I agree. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ignore the dementors on this thread- they absolutely hate that things are looking up. They want this to continue for psychological reasons of their own.

Zaphodsotherhead · 15/05/2020 09:26

Yeah, well, the other day one of the front page headlines was that Scarlett Moffat is terrified of being abducted by aliens...

They need to put something on the front page. Even if it is only true for 0.05 seconds.

Bollss · 15/05/2020 09:26

Everyone will be quarantined @Gawdsake2020!!

It won't be people with symptoms it will be everyone who flies into the country. Even people who live here.

Tellmetruth4 · 15/05/2020 09:28

When the pandemic hit, London was the epicentre and at the same time we were seeing lots of scary footage from Italy. To put it simply, the people of London were scared shitless and the city became a ghost town overnight. The vast majority took lockdown very seriously which is why we turned things around quickly. I don’t think it was emphasised enough that the rest of the country wouldn’t be spared, they were just a few weeks behind which is what’s playing out now.

The next few weeks with the easing of restrictions will be tricky and tense. I hope we can get the balance right.

I think restrictions on regional travel should be applied so for example people from the SW shouldn’t travel to other areas as they are still on the upswing and may reinfect other areas kicking it all off again.

chomalungma · 15/05/2020 09:28

It's in the Guardian and the Telegraph? I don't understand
