So another killing of a black man Ahmaud Arbery by 2 white men (Father and son) in US. They nearly got away with it calling it a citizen arrest and self defence. Father was a retired policeman.

They followed him, armed with guns and shot him.

Prosecutors tried to cover it up until the video emerged.
Ahmaud’s crime? He was going for a jog.

Will black lives ever matter?

I absolutely love houses. One of my hobbies is browsing Rightmove. If there was a house under construction I would be curious. And in Britain I don't think anybody would think somebody having a nosey would deserve to be shot, no matter their colour. America is fucked up.

Even if this was a 13 year old black boy people would be twisting themselves in knots to justify the shooters.

It's been this way for decades and decades. We've always known the deep south's troubled relationship with black people. We've always known about the fascination with guns, we've always known about the huge poverty gap.
I don't think we are really seeing anything we didn't know.

You keep defending statements you've made when they aren't being challenged.

We know that systemic racism is at large in the US. We know that many people are armed in the US. We know it's way more common there than here.

Nobody has questioned those things yet you write as if you've been had a go at for them.

Just like the other poster repeatedly saying their shock levels mean they don't find it that shocking - nobody questioned that or said it was wrong yet they insisted on repeating it and backing it up.

NearlyGrannybut you're a woman, and I'm guessing, not black. If you had been shot somebody would have to pay immediately. Don't come on here muddying the waters. If you're not black then please accept my apologies because I'm as perplexed as you why you weren't shot.

Can you hand on heart really claim that we've not seen this sort of behaviour in America for decades? It's not new. That's not defending anything, it's just saying it isn't knew and people aren't 'finally seeing it' - they've seen it many times over and buried their heads in the sand about it.

There's bad black guys in the world too - nobody disputes that, all they want is to be treated equally, and they aren't.

It's interesting the way some people humanise the killers ("the dad", "former policeman", "just went over the top") yet slander the victim with irrelevancies like a prior shoplifting arrest.

The incident was disgusting, abhorrent and appalling. The fact it took so long for the men to be charged because they had a friend in the judicial system is beyond words. That this isn't the first time and won't be the last.

There had been no recent burglaries. That is fact.

Funny how it's impossible he was innocent, despite police reports, a video and all news statements not giving any evidence otherwise. But it's completely impossible that the two killers targeted, hunted and killed him in cold blood when the end result was a dead UNARMED man

I voted YABU. Not because I think black lives shouldn't matter, but because I don't think they ever will. Please remember when complaining that so many people have voted one way or the other, the question is will black lives ever matter - not should they.

Racism has been around for as long as humanity has. It's not going to go away. Hell, homo neanderthalensis probably had a stone axe to grind with homo sapiens.

I'm not saying this is right; I'm saying this is how it is.

I wish human kind was not so power hungry.

It seems like a trait of a very immature and barbaric culture.

Imagine if we landed on another planet, and they said "well we treat black people as being worth less because of the colour of their skin". "And we treat women as worth less, even though it is they who give birth to the entire population". Wouldn't we think that planet is very barbaric and weird?

I hope we evolve to a stage where we see everyone as equal.
