Will black lives ever matter?

So another killing of a black man Ahmaud Arbery by 2 white men (Father and son) in US. They nearly got away with it calling it a citizen arrest and self defence. Father was a retired policeman.

They followed him, armed with guns and shot him.

Prosecutors tried to cover it up until the video emerged.
Ahmaud’s crime? He was going for a jog.

Will black lives ever matter?

An empty house, under construction and he had nothing on him to suggest he has taken anything/committed a crime or any evidence at the house that it was burglarised.

gobbynorthernbird · 10/05/2020 16:16

How did they think he was a robber. He has a peep in the garage (which doesn't appear to have doors on it, or if there are doors they're open) and a quick look round the side. Just as many of us would, for many innocent reasons, if a new house were being built in our neighbourhood.

Annamaria14 · 10/05/2020 16:19

Well they said that there had been a batch of robberies in the area.

I see conflicting reports online saying that there were robberies in the area, and some saying that there were not.

I just think the dad (used to be a police man) got into a over the top mode, with terrible consequences

The Black Lives Matter Global Network is a chapter-based, member-led organization whose mission is to build local power and to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

Black Lives Matter 'about'.

gobbynorthernbird · 10/05/2020 16:20

There had been no recent burglaries. That is fact.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 10/05/2020 16:22

Oh and he lied in the police report. If so righteous and honest, why lie?

Annamaria14 · 10/05/2020 16:23

More news out today-

Ahmaud Arbery was previously arrested in 2018 on theft charges.

gobbynorthernbird · 10/05/2020 16:26

For shoplifting.

MagentaRocks · 10/05/2020 16:27

So because he was arrested a couple of years before he deserved to be shot? Would you be saying that if it was a white jogger shot by two black men?

I have seen the video of a man looking around a house, and it does look like the same guy, but that is not conclusive, nor is it a reason to shoot someone because they match the description of an alleged burglar.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 10/05/2020 16:29

@Annamaria14 AND?

It is all irrelevant!

You do not arm yourself as a civilian, chase someone , trap them between two vehicles, exit armed and hope for a happily ever after.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 10/05/2020 16:29

Not much to steal from a house under construction especially as the video shows he had nothing in his hands...

BackseatCookers · 10/05/2020 16:30

I just think the dad (used to be a police man) got into a over the top mode, with terrible consequences

This is the most underwhelming description of chasing and shooting a man to death that I have ever heard.

Getting into "over the top mode" is shouting about someone recording over a boxset you wanted to watch.

Not shooting a man to death in broad daylight.

If they had shot a young white woman in this situation and she had a shoplifting incident on her record would you say well she had precious so let's not paint her as an innocent? Really?

This thread is the saddest thing on here in ages.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 10/05/2020 16:31

Well they said that there had been a batch of robberies in the area.

Surprise surprise... man involved in a murder lies. Hmm

All the reports of robberies are based on McMichals statement to the police.

DangerMouse17 · 10/05/2020 16:32

@Annamaria14

Ahmaud's high school record, prior arrests, what he had for lunch that day have ZERO bearing on the fact that he was shot and murdered by two individuals who decided they wanted to accost him and take his life. If he was white this would not have happened. So please cease with your ever so helpful "updates".

Ahmaud's character is not in question here.

Annamaria14 · 10/05/2020 16:33

@MagentaRocks where did I say he deserved to be shot, I didnt. In fact, I have said the opposite. That they were completely and totally wrong to kill him.

However, they said they saw him enter his houses, his family has said he wouldn't do that, that he was just out for a jog.

So this new video is important! About us seeing what happened

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 10/05/2020 16:35

@Annamaria14 it's an empty house on a construction site. He was empty handed in a tshirt and shorts!

What significant crime could he have committed to excuse at least two armed men chasing after him and boxing him in?

MaxNormal · 10/05/2020 16:37

It's interesting the way some people humanise the killers ("the dad", "former policeman", "just went over the top") yet slander the victim with irrelevancies like a prior shoplifting arrest.
It's all done in a very wide-eyed way as well.

Annamaria14 · 10/05/2020 16:38

@BackseatCookers it is not shocking to me because I have lived in the USA, and shootings happen ALL the time.

But please don't ever say I said it was okay to kill this man. I did not say that anywhere.

I said - they said he was breaking into houses.
The family said he was just out for a jog.

The new video footage appears to back the mcmichaels statement.

It is more that I want to see what happened in the lead up to this. What actually happened

gobbynorthernbird · 10/05/2020 16:41

@Annamaria14 Ahmaud didn't actually enter the house. He had a little look in a wide open and empty garage. You think if he were white those bastards would have hunted him down with shotguns for being a bit nosy?

Madwife123 · 10/05/2020 16:42

That 911 call alone is horrifying, reporting a black man running. On what planet is that acceptable!

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 10/05/2020 16:43

they said he was breaking into houses.

They lied. Why would someone involved in the shooting of a man ...it's a mystery.
They claimed there have been reports about burglaries , but there hadn't been any. The only thing reported stolen in the period prior to this is a gun that was taken from the unlocked truck belonging to the suspects.

The video shows Arbery in shorts and a tshirt going on a construction site/house being built, staying for a few minutes, and leaving empty handed.

It is not proof of a crime, and even if there was , you ring the police, you don't arm yourself, box someone in and then confront him with a gun.

Annamaria14 · 10/05/2020 16:44

How does me saying:

The mcmichaels said he entered houses.
His family said he didn't enter houses.
A new video shows him entering a house,,

Equal:

Me saying he should be killed!
Ffs.

Can I not talk about the case at all on here, without some saying I said it is okay for him to be killed.

I don't think it was okay for him to be killed, yet I am still interested in hearing what happened.

MaxNormal · 10/05/2020 16:45

Annamaria14 because you sound like you're attempting to justify with unjustifiable.

BackseatCookers · 10/05/2020 16:48

@Annamaria14 I haven't said that.

In fact, I've specifically said on this thread that I am most concerned by the people who say yes it was wrong he was killed BUT also bring into question the character of the victim.

I said this earlier:

Why are some people (especially those who then agree he was murdered in cold blood) so determined to find a way he isn't an innocent victim.

You have popped onto the thread with a number of "news just in" comments all of which call into question the innocence of the man shot to death.

You used the phrase "over the top mode" to describe the murder committed by the "dad / former policeman".

And you don't see that it comes across as you are lessening the malice of their intentions while also lessening the strength his victim status?

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 10/05/2020 16:50

@Annamaria14 here is the police report.

They saw fuck all, or if they did they didn't say that to the police. He said there have been burglaries and video footage and they thought Ahmaud was the suspect.

They lied about blocking his way.

They lied about the confrontation.

Will black lives ever matter?
