Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

Thats interesting @orangeblossom78. I had wondered how the population were going to be convinced to go out now, after being blasted with fear for weeks. The SNP have put out a statement saying they're considering how to unlock which gives a bit more detail on the negative consequences of lockdown, which is I guess a small attempt to try to get people to move on from being fixated only with the risks of going outside.

There seems to be quite a lot of positive news on the vaccine, antibody tests and scientists discovering more things all the time.

In the other hand, I'm using the "snooze for 30 days" button on my FB quite a lot as theres a fair bit of dementoring going on about infection rates increasing in places that have loosened restrictions... of course there is!

OutwardBound2016 · 30/04/2020 08:24

A friend messaged me yesterday telling me about a new place she has found to walk (a drive away), she said she was fed up of all the restrictions and it’s wasn’t normal to be cooped up. This was the same friend who was desperate for lockdown and took her kids out of school early because ‘it wasn’t safe’. We are all sheep and desperate to get behind a cause until such a point that it’s inconvenient for the individual.

I was thinking about that poor little boy a couple of years ago who was severely brain damaged, huge public support, all over the news, vile abuse of the doctors and nurses who were behind switching off his life support etc etc. People loved getting involved and showing how much they ‘cared’ then nothing.....I think the Brits like something to get behind some kind of weird Blitz spirit....

FallonSwift · 30/04/2020 08:56

There was a story I saw somewhere with people being upset that the Range was still open and selling hot tubs that made me think of this thread!

YES! I need to go and get me a chavvy sex pond!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 30/04/2020 09:06

I'd love a chavvy sex pond

They look so relaxing Wine

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 30/04/2020 09:11

There is a thread asking if youve ever been stopped by the police. I imagine the dementors printing that thread, cutting out the posts where people said they were questioned by police and sticking them on their wall next to their bed. Then, just before they go to sleep at night they can gaze upon the words of someone who was stopped by the LAW and questioned about why they were outside. That told them didnt it! Finally, the police are enforcing what they've always wanted and they can drift off to sleep knowing that all is right with the world.....

CeibaTree · 30/04/2020 10:00

It's so scary to see how some people have reacted to lockdown with such glee at being able to shame their fellow citizens (usually because the shamers have misinterpreted the rules). Thank you for starting this thread OP, it's good to see from the comments that there are so many reasonable people left on MN - from reading other threads it looks like the world has gone mad!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 30/04/2020 10:17

I'd like a hot tub too: of the rigid variety (and with no intention of saying I'll do what the hell I like in my own garden with absolutely no consideration of whether it disturbs the neighbours. I value my peace here, as do they).

To those who already have them, exactly how much do they ramp up your electricity consumption?

Springersrock · 30/04/2020 10:37

I’ve never fancied a hot tub, they make me feel a bit weird. Like human soup.

One of my neighbours has one and they have all their friends round to get in it. Envy not envy

I’ve been stopped a couple of times by the police, they waved me on my way. DH has been stopped loads as he’s still working and is out delivering and has also been waved on. I love that it would piss a dementor off.

I’ve been reading a thread on Facebook about the possibility of easing lockdown by testing us and then using an ap for contact tracing. There seems to be a significant amount of posters shrieking about spreading death and staying in for a few more month means the virus will just vanish.

Anyone who suggests the lockdown was to slow the spread so the NHS doesn’t get overwhelmed gets shouted down as a murderer. Anyone who points out the economy wouldn’t cope with this for a few more months is a greedy murderer who should hang their head in shame. Anyone who points out we can’t possibly all stay in because we need to buy food/sort livestock/care for the vulnerable is a Covidiot (god, I want to punch the next person who says Covidiot)

I have no idea how we’re ever going to get back to some sort of normal. Dementors have been scaring the shit out of themselves and everyone else for months

FallonSwift · 30/04/2020 10:43

One of my neighbours has one and they have all their friends round to get in it.

No, no and no again. If I am going to simmer away nicely a sex-pond-soup then I want it to be my filth, not someone else's!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/04/2020 10:43

Have you seen the Captain Tom thread today? One post is worrying about fly pasts in case a Spitfire crashes and there's been the usual 'I don't want to see him, there's more important things going on, people are dying' type posts.

FallonSwift · 30/04/2020 10:46

You also have the taxpayer dementors, who like to doom-monger about how our children's children's children will be working down mines to pay off the cost of the pandemic.

Worth noting that so far we have spent less than the Govt did in 2008 for the bailouts to stop the banks from going under.

Springersrock · 30/04/2020 10:51

Yes, the tax payer dementors!

I’m on furlough so should be out picking fruit and earning my keep Hmm

IcedPurple · 30/04/2020 11:26

The fruit picking thread is awful. I don't get the obsession with 'fruit rotting in the ground' because 'lazy Brits' wont' get off their fat arses and have to depend on valient Lithuanians and Romanians (who are making 4 or 5 times what they could make in their home country). Not just on MN - you find similar hand-wringing in The Guardian and elsewhere.

Farms and orchards are profit making businesses, not charities. If for whatever reason they can no longer access an endless stream of cheap labour then they'll just have to pay a rate generous enough to attract people who don't live in countries where the average wage is 400 quid a month.

Springersrock · 30/04/2020 11:35

My older daughter actually applied for a couple of local fruit picking jobs. She was supposed to be taking her A levels this year and now isn’t so she’s bored.

A load of her friends in the same boat also applied

None of them ever heard a thing back

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/04/2020 12:19

For your pleasure and amusement I proudly present the "lockdown until June" thread....it's a dementors dream. The first one to place a pawn wins....go!!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 30/04/2020 12:34

Urgh I just saw that. Theyre all wanking to it arent they?
Lots of "GOOD! I want it longer- preferably until 2022 but this will do for now" . Its not even the fact people are worried- I totally get why some vulnerable people would be glad its staying until June.

Its the scolding, reprimanding, superior tone of a lot of the posts that sicken me- theyre acting as if this is a just punishment for us because we've all been naughty children and DESERVE to be locked away until 2022. I see some people have expressed on that thread they are really struggling with lockdown only to be told "so selfish- do you want people to DIE?". As if expressing any kind of sad emotion about it is akin to killing people. Urgh I just cant with those people- they are so so horrible.

DominaShantotto · 30/04/2020 12:34

"You should be scared"

I have an anxiety disorder and panic attacks... I'm always scared. I control it by making sure I know what's going on properly and not from random idiots on the internet.

What scares me and I can't control is how quickly and how gleefully people will goosestep into a state of affairs not much divorced from a totalitarian regime. That fucking terrifies me - we're living through 1984 - and MN is salivating over the prospect.

Delta1 · 30/04/2020 12:39

It's unbelievable. Poster told everyone life will never be the same again. NEVER! What a load of crap. She must be very bored and miserable.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/04/2020 12:41

Theyre all wanking to it arent they?

Oh they're living the dream.

Powergower · 30/04/2020 12:46

Mn is awful at the best of the times but these days it's vile. Any thread you post on, literally ANY thread, any topic - education, chat, mental health, AMA, body - you will get awful nasty depressing responses. It's why I can't be bothered to post or read much of it anymore.

Wingingitsince2018 · 30/04/2020 12:55

This thread is exactly what I have been needing for weeks!

I will be keeping my eye out for the ♟️however I'm not sure I shall be brave enough to dish one out!

Springersrock · 30/04/2020 12:56

I saw that thread earlier

Someone banging on about avian flu being next and how we’ve seen nothing yet Hmm

It’s like a mass orgy of doom mongering

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/04/2020 13:14

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter

Nicely done on that thread. Winner!! Grin

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 30/04/2020 13:17

Thank you! do I get a curly wurly as a prize? 😃

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 13:26

OutwardBound yes, the Charlie Gard case, "Charlie's Army" wasn't it. then they moved on to the next poor little boy with something similar.

Do you think MN is slightly improving? Thought there seemed slightly less of it last day or two, but maybe just not been engaging with it.

Yes the BBC was saying about flouting in the buying spas article and thought of this thread!

Some madness about Spain bleaching it's beaches the days children were allowed out and it destroying the wildlife :-(, the local authority...don't understand why they thought the virus would be on the sand anyway. All very odd. Seems like the world has gone mad at times

But yes some more positive stuff around I agree. Maybe they picked up on the mood of people needing some kind of hope and positivity before they drive us all mad.
