Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

Oh they also love the idea of a second wave being worse like Spanish flu which mutated or something

(have read this one is much less likely to mutate and get worse thankfully)

If anyone gets a magazine, I recommend Grazia, has a very positive interview with several women doing the vaccine trials atm, all sounds very positive. fingers crossed. (probably magazine being is well frowned on Grin)

I am aware that I've spelt essential wrong...I pressed before editing.

Springersrock · 30/04/2020 13:36

MN seemed to be getting slightly better. I think it depends on the first few replies how a thread goes. If a dementor gets in first, then it’s a bit of a dementory thread

There was one yesterday about the OP being the only one following the rules which clearly didn’t go the way they expected.

On my social media a tide seems to be turning a bit too. People posting shaming photos, rants about B&Q queues or how they counted 175 cars on the road while they were out are called out pretty much every time, whereas before it would have been an orgy of “covidiots/arrest them and throw away the key” type replies

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/04/2020 13:37

The Charlie Gard case was fairly local to me and I was amazed that some of my rational, thoughtful friends were liking and sharing posts on FB. Thankfully as far as I'm aware they didn't move on and join the next army.

OutwardBound2016 · 30/04/2020 13:42

Yes Charlie Gard, people in this country seem to love something to get excited about. I do hope that the people who were threatening violence towards the doctors and nurses caring for him aren’t doing the ‘Thursday Flap’

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 13:54

That was a sad case because it all fuelled the false hope....emotion taking over. It's different to this of course, but similar in the emoting and getting in on the action in some ways. Some people might see a similar, well, kind of following / being part of it, kind of thing I guess! Not sure.

Also has that same kind of drama as to what is the next event / waiting for the next stage.

I don't know if this link works, sorry. Some of the sanctimonious, self-congratulatory smugness of these people...

OutwardBound2016 · 30/04/2020 14:46

Saw a man in the supermarket wearing a mask, didn’t really have any thoughts either way but I did do a double take when he took it off to speak to a staff member.

PhilSwagielka · 30/04/2020 14:59

@Willitneverend not a gardener myself but my stepdad is, and having been to his allotment, I somehow don't think it's a hive of disease. The land where the allotments are is quite big, they're well spaced out and it's not like there are loads of people down there at any given time. Besides, I thought growing your own veg/fruit was a GOOD thing. Blitz spirit an' that.

Russellbrandshair · 30/04/2020 15:03

@thesuninsagittarius

I saw that thread! I agree with people asking what response the OP wanted? A medal? People clapping for her? A big old fawn over how brave and noble she is for not murdering everyone in the supermarket? Lol ♟

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 15:20

This one if quite funny. All ready for outrage and joining in but then...so what?! Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 15:22

Is it a kind of distraction thing maybe as well? Oh I miss times when people didn't focus on each other as much. At least there are less of them about I suppose.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 15:25

Yes, well here we have the Botanical Gardens re-opened (smug) so we can freely wander about in them, looking at the lovely flowers. Flowers

Maybe we have been good boys and girls. in the SW

Link is broken? Did the OP ask it to be removed out of embarrasment?

I remember how she started backpeddling as soon as it became obvious that the thread wasn't going quite the way she had expected. "It was an observation, not a criticism." Yeah right. So why the FFS then?

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 15:36

This is quite funny on these 'tribes'

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 15:38

*“I have seen you leaving the house approx. 17 times this week,” the note on your windscreen reads, in the Mean Girl handwriting of someone called Kayleigh from school who used to terrorise the weaker members of the drama club.

The hearts above those i’s are giving you flashbacks — but it isn’t Kayleigh this time, it’s your informant neighbour. She knew there was something iffy about you when you didn’t wear a poppy last year. It’s only a matter of time before she shops you to the feds, or posts a blurry picture of you getting into your Fiat Punto on Facebook, or puts a sign in her window shaming you for “failing to protect the NHS SHAME ON YOU”.

Never mind that you’re a nurse*

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/04/2020 16:27

I'm sitting here wondering whether the clapping will be as loud tonight now the weather has changed...

FallonSwift · 30/04/2020 16:50

Besides, I thought growing your own veg/fruit was a GOOD thing. Blitz spirit an' that.

But it should be furloughed people being forced to pick fruit and veg from the allotments. What is wrong with you and why won't you support the National Effort During A Time Of Crisis? People like you make me ashamed to be British (carries on for another 300 posts...).

FallonSwift · 30/04/2020 16:51

@PinkSparklyPussyCat it's been pissing it down here on and off for most of the day. I am really hoping that it's throwing it down at 8pm so that people realise that unlike fairies, the NHS will not keel over if you don't stand on your doorstep clapping and shouting that you believe.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 16:52

This one is quite strange www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3895689-Is-anyone-becoming-suspicious

rookiemere · 30/04/2020 16:53

Just had an absolute classic on FB. FB friend - who I thought was relatively normal - has taken pictures of traffic going through the local shopping area - and commented that people should be staying home as it's far from over.

Look I get it's a lockdown, I get it's essential travel only, but can't we just leave the police to police it and mind our own business.

I'm tempted to say oh yes that was me heading to Five Guys ( which has recently reopened) . It wasn't of course as I am obeying the guidance - may go to the shops twice rather than once per week - but who made her traffic monitor.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/04/2020 16:58

Wink but surely cars at a shopping mall would be well, for shopping Confused should they not be buying food now?

I guess also people don't have such to do at the moment. Maybe it is the only entertainment. Just saw a guy swinging from a tree doing yoga in the park earlier. It was quite entertaining.

Managed to stop myself from gawping and taking photos though.

Esprohuy · 30/04/2020 17:11

Indeed. I wonder if perhaps what lies behind it is in fact that a lot of people don't like other people?
