Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

I've just seen someone (not on MN), describe sending parcels as "sending virus bombs".

OutwardBound2016 · 29/04/2020 13:55

None us need to worry Pfizer have said that they will have a working vaccine in general circulation by the end of the year.......no source given obviously. Therefore we should all just STAY THE FUCK AT HOME until then. There is so much bullshit on Mumsnet at the moment, someone’s neighbour two doors down has a cousin who is a SENIOR PERSON in a (un specified) hospital who said all of the patents with Covid are under 40 and they have no health conditions and they will all probably die (this will be Pam down the roads fault she has been going out for two walks a day)

Chockablok · 29/04/2020 14:01

So is that just the UK who will get the vaccine and therefore only 66million doses needed? Or do we need to cover the entire population of the world by 2021 too?

Anyone with an auntie high up somewhere who knows how long it takes to manufacture 7 billion doses of vaccine?

DaisylovesDonald · 29/04/2020 14:01

@outwardbound2016 I am happy to report that actually Pfizer HAVE said that. www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/coronavirus-tracker-hydroxychloroquine-fails-va-study-fda-approves-at-home-sample-collection
Obviously no guarantees but I am continuing to remain hopeful on the vaccine front.

Oxford trials also going well www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/abroad/coronavirus-irish-scientist-s-team-leaps-ahead-in-race-to-find-a-vaccine-1.4239978?mode=amp

Chockablok my auntie’s grandmas goat, who is high up in the Department of Things That Will Take a Long Time, says it will take a fucking long time.

Teateaandmoretea · 29/04/2020 14:04

100% of people who get Covid will die ♟♟♟

PhilSwagielka · 29/04/2020 14:09

What is it with these idiots and Facebook? I've got a friend in a local Facebook group - she's only there for lost dog posts - and she said people in there are super curtain twitchy. Like, the kind of people who'd judge her for walking her (now sadly dead) dog. Dunno if any of you are in Levy Massive but that group is notorious for people going 'OMG I SAW SOMEONE LEAVE A HOUSE, BURN THEM'.

OutwardBound2016 · 29/04/2020 14:11

Thanks Daisy, have actually spoke to my friends husband who works there and he says this has not been communicated internally. I am inherently untrusting of any media outlets at the moment as everything seems to be manipulated!

Esprohuy · 29/04/2020 14:14

The thing that gets me is how reliant on the bait of someone seeking reassurance the Dementors are. If for example they think there will be no non essential travel until 2022 then why not post a thread saying that instead of waiting for someone to say "do you think I'll be able to visit my parents this Christmas". There's also this thing about them hating how well most people have endured a lockdown which will be entering its 3rd month in 36 hours time. Regardless of whether you think the end is in June, October or 16th March 2080, every week is a week nearer the end and a week less of future lockdown to endure.

I unfollowed a load of our local FB community groups the other day as they were so ridiculous.

Endless posts about the queue outside B&Q, whether someone might be a tourist, that someone’s neighbour had walked his dog TWICE that day, someone else saw someone go in a shop a and buy a bar of chocolate, and “it’s so busy out there, like a normal day” posted over and over again.

I stayed a member of our local equestrian group but despite the admin’s best efforts, it’s even spreading in there too now.

Major arguments about who is riding and who isn’t and how everyone who is still riding is spreading death and murdering us all!

PhilSwagielka · 29/04/2020 14:25

How is horse riding dangerous? It's not a contact sport.

PhilSwagielka · 29/04/2020 14:26

(in terms of spreading COVID I mean)

Teateaandmoretea · 29/04/2020 14:28

It’s dangerous because people might enjoy themselves. If this spreads there will be chaos.

Drivingdownthe101 · 29/04/2020 14:29

If you enjoy yourself, YOU WILL DIE. The virus attaches itself to the pleasure receptors in your body.

Springersrock · 29/04/2020 14:37

The argument is if you fall off, you might need medical treatment which will put strain on the NHS.

Plus, if you’re out hacking you’re spreading your corona-germs all over the place

Riding is dangerous but so is dealing with bored, under exercised horses.

I did stop DD riding back at the beginning as I didn’t want to be that parent rocking up at A&E in the middle of a pandemic with a broken child, but after her pony nearly took me out when I was turning her out one morning I thought fuck it, get back on.

Pretty much everyone round here is riding and being sensible - no one is galloping round a cross country course, but most people are schooling or hacking.

There’s still some die hards who think we’re all going to single handed let bring down the NHS with our irresponsible, murdering ways

Teateaandmoretea · 29/04/2020 14:40

There’s still some die hards who think we’re all going to single handed let bring down the NHS with our irresponsible, murdering ways

It’s far more likely that the people who are sitting at home on their arses who have gained 2 stone during lockdown will bring down the NHS.

Orangeblossom78 · 29/04/2020 14:44

Is it just me or can the BBC and other news also be a bit dementor like at times?

Especially BBC recently... really emotive and dramatic. Apparently news on other nearby countries is better. Maybe it feeds the drama.

They used to say percentage of deaths with underlying conditions. Not any more.

Springersrock · 29/04/2020 14:44

To be honest, I just don’t care anymore

My daughter’s mental health is so bad right now, riding is the only thing keeping her going so I’m going to keep dragging her up the yard and encouraging her to ride. I dread to think what might happen if I don’t

Orangeblossom78 · 29/04/2020 14:45

Isn't being sedentary and isolated meant to be about as bad for us as smoking 20 cigarettes a day? (sorry slightly depressing statement) Grin

IcedPurple · 29/04/2020 14:47

There was a 'why am I the only one to observe the 'rules'?" thread today which didn't go quite the way the OP had expected!

These people should remember that stress damages the immune system and makes you more susceptible to the virus, so perhaps they'd be best advised to stop worrying if Gemma down the road has stepped outside her front door twice in one day. Maybe then they could pour themselves a nice big glass of vino, and chill.

But where's the fun, sorry, misery in that?

Some people enjoy patronising and depressing others
Springersrock · 29/04/2020 14:51

Yes, I saw that thread too

The government report in their daily press conferences that by and large, the vast majority of people are following the guidelines, so no, clearly you aren’t the only person.

I’m not following mad made up as you go along guidelines imposed by some on MN and FB, but I am following the actual guidelines

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/04/2020 14:52

Anyone with an auntie high up somewhere who knows how long it takes to manufacture 7 billion doses of vaccine?

They already exist but are being held to ransom. Huawei and Smith Glaxo Kleine will not release them until they are given all the Strawbwrry Creams, Donald Trump toilet roll and camembert in the world. Evil bastards.Angry

OutwardBound2016 · 29/04/2020 14:56

The BBC have been shameful, I am suspicious that the gov have told the mainstream media to scare the shit out of people until such a time as they want people to return to work because Rishi can’t print any more cash.
