Just that really. He was last seen running towards a London tube station, statement then comes out that he has symptoms (sure everyone else on that carriage were pleased) and we’ve heard fuck all since.

Has he realised his Rasputin days are over and legged it?

Thank heaven you are not in charge

No idea who that was meant for but I’d back a few posters on this thread if it was a choice between them or Cummings.

Well Naomi wolfe is a doctor but shes a complete moron. Some people are just good at doing the university work without any imagination or personal interest.

No.

Dominic Cummings is an arsehole.

If you don't want to read it, stop being so arrogant and just hide the thread.

And I’m sorry, to those defending Priti Patel, her press conference where she repeatedly said that the UK were “fighting Counter Intelligence “ was just embarrassing. How do you think we look on the world stage with this level of competency?
The fact that she failed to recognise immediately that she had made a huge mistake shows that she is not thinking, she is reciting from memory, incorrectly. You can have a photographic memory and pass tests but if you can’t digest and analyse information and problem solve you should not be Home Secretary.

VegetableMunge · 09/04/2020 12:36

Christ I hope Cumminings isnt exalted to sainthood just because he may or may not be ill. He is a thoroughly unpleasant power crazy nutjob

Yes, and it's not like any of us know about his state of health or not! At least with Johnson the people using his illness to try and delegitimise criticism of him knew he was ill.

Part of me wonders if him and Boris were drinking buddies and a lot of their crazy ideas were discussed after a bottle of wine or ten.
Posters on here saying that Cummings is drinking himself into a stupor daily atm.

did he not have a cunning plan of how to come out on top of this

#classicDom

He never saw this coming..

titchy · 09/04/2020 12:43

Why do people constantly equate academic ability with political competence? The two skill sets are diametrically opposed!

ssd · 09/04/2020 12:44

Wasn't George Osborne described as being educated beyond his intelligence?!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 09/04/2020 12:44

A couple of points have appeared, I am not really interested in the Cummings stuff but am always intersted in what people have to say. There does seem to be some misunderstanding of the herd immunity. we do have to end up with enough people with immunity for the protection of those that havent, the herd. This will be a mixture of those that have had it and those that are immunised.
Second I am a bit surprised at the arguments about "thick" and university degrees. Intelligence is such a complex thing with so many un measurable facets icluding social and emotional intelligence, logic and problem solving etc etc. Academic success is one facet of intelligence only. It does not mean you have a quick, emotionally intelligent or social skills. So really its not relevant in this discussion.
The only other point I wanted to make is that I am sad there is so much personal abuse going on when political ability or decision making should not be anything to do with whether you perceive you "like " a political personality. I know its hard , eg Trump! Sorry I seem to have annoyed people, or the thread has , I dont know

Herd immunity will happen eventually - even if a vaccine is developed.

I think though that the plan was for there for people who were more likely to at risk if they catch it to be isolated away and for the rest of us to catch it and develop immunity.

The plan to isolate just that group did fall away though when it was realised how complicated that would be.

TBF - this is a thread about Cummings

VegetableMunge · 09/04/2020 12:53

If you're not interested in discussion of Cummings, it was an odd choice to click on the thread.

GrinGrinGrin

Can think of a few more that applies to, too!

Frownette · 09/04/2020 13:23

So...we've ascertained that Cummings is drinking himself into a stupor in an armchair somewhere?!

He must be a mild case otherwise he'd be in bed.

itsgettingweird · 09/04/2020 13:26

Quite vegetable Grin

I also agree with whoever very eloquently said unthread that is problem with these highly educated people being seen as highly intelligent often means people blindly follow them and don't see that emotional and social intelligence may nit exist or be weak.

People who attend hothouses high profile independent schools are often told how they rank in top society and have the best support to get them exams (hothoused) because parents pay for and expect that.

Don't get me wrong - some are naturally extremely academic.

I don't particularly like or dislike Boris. But his speeches to the nation always remind me of a public schoolboy rallying the troups before a rugby match!

But I think with regards social and emotional intelligence to lead the country and be honest and reassuring is done better by Rushi Sunak and Matt Hancock. Incidentally Rishi is extremely academically intelligent too.

Dominic Cummings comes across as a privileged spoilt brat who thinks he's above everyone and anything and I think Boris getting the virus has scared the crap out of him. He's realised who you are isn't enough. And in his case it's probably a bad thing Wink

I remember reading an article about Rishi when he was first elected to parliament and instantly dismissing him because of his background. I've been impressed with him in many ways since he became chancellor and can see him as prime minister one day. It seems like he comes from a background where his family have got there by working hard rather than privilege and perhaps this makes him more down to earth.

Alsohuman · 09/04/2020 13:49

If Sunak isn’t the next Tory leader there’s something badly wrong. I’ve tried really hard not to be impressed by him and failed miserably.
