Just that really. He was last seen running towards a London tube station, statement then comes out that he has symptoms (sure everyone else on that carriage were pleased) and we’ve heard fuck all since.

Has he realised his Rasputin days are over and legged it?

The vile Julia Hartley-Brewer has been attempting to instruct us on empathy and human decency.

Unfortunately she has no competence in these attributes.

1forsorrow · 09/04/2020 09:11

just imagine what a shit show the country would be in if Corbyn/Abbott and Mcdonnell was in power That would be fantasy wouldn't it, the shit show that Johnson/Cummings have presided over is reality. Significant difference.

VegetableMunge · 09/04/2020 09:14

Indeed not pigletjohn, but then she has that in common with everyone who's been whining at any criticism of Conservative political figures who may or may not have coronavirus. They don't seem to understand that as soon as they politicise the situation by telling other people not to politicise it, they've sprinted away from the moral high ground.

Another person who is not someone to lecture people on empathy and human decency.

In so many people's cases, there is always a tweet that shows exactly the kind of person they are.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 09/04/2020 09:27

I actually do not care. He is a despicable man.

user1471565182 · 09/04/2020 09:58

yeah I always think this peregrina, if it was around 1938 and we still didn't know about the holocaust, how many of our journalists, newspapers and politicians would openly support hitler? more than back then I reckon (thought you're right about the hasting re writing that went on). Farage definitely, BJ lukewarmly, Katie Hopkins, Tommy ten names, Trump the Daily mail and express at least.

chomalungma · 09/04/2020 10:10

Toby Young would probably be defending him.

Frompcat · 09/04/2020 10:11

I would genuinely struggle to feel sympathy if he were ill to be honest. Him and Trump. Just wouldn't care.

I feel sad about Boris though.

MintyMabel · 09/04/2020 10:12

It is a poor marker of intelligence. I'm a university lecturer, I think you'd be disheartened by the standard of many students taking and passing Masters degrees.

Sure. Everyone studying at a university is as thick as shit these days. There are no entrance requirements, you can get in with absolutely no schooling whatsoever, universities are just loaded with people who dropped out of a school at 16 with no secondary qualifications whatsoever.

To gain a university degree, there is a certain level of academic proficiency required. That is an absolute fact.

Frompcat · 09/04/2020 10:14

I got a first in English lit from a RG University and I am not kidding when I say that for the most part I didn't read the books, just the Wikipedia summaries.

YangShanPo · 09/04/2020 10:18

I could understand someone saying you can be highly academic and expert in one area but lack practical wisdom to deal with different situations. Or a conscience.

Alsohuman · 09/04/2020 10:23

That level has fallen dramatically in the last 30 years. All degrees aren’t created equal, the bar for subjects like medicine is substantially higher than for some other degree courses.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 09/04/2020 10:23

Can you all just stop slating my County's university. Many thanks.

Alsohuman · 09/04/2020 10:27

Thanks for proving my point so adeptly @Frompcat. My English degree from a RG university is 34 years old. In my year four people got firsts out of 300. Incidentally, I don’t believe for a second you didn’t read the texts!

chomalungma · 09/04/2020 10:31

I'm hoping that all these people who have been so adament in their views towards immigrants, the working poor, people who don't earn much etc have some kind of Damascene conversion after their NHS experiences and they realise the importance of everyone in our society.

I doubt it will happen though.

MintyMabel · 09/04/2020 10:34

So when Priti did hers 26 years ago, standards would have still been quite high, huh?

And yes, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand you need better grades to study law and medicine than something like economics. That doesn’t make people who study economics “as thick as shit”

Peregrina · 09/04/2020 10:36

Stop slating my alma mater, where I too studied in the same department for a significant number of courses. For my particular subject combination 1 person out of a group of 200 got a first. Maybe 1/4 got 2:1s, the majority of us got 2:2s and only those who struggled academically or the lazy came away with thirds.

Peregrina · 09/04/2020 10:39

I don't know that you do need better grades for law, rather than economics. It depends on what branch of economics you specialise in but it can be quite mathematical, making a good A level in the subject a basic entry requirement.

Law seems to be reading and digesting wodges of legal cases.

CaribouCarafe · 09/04/2020 10:39

@MintyMabel University of Essex provides offers for 67.3% of undergraduate applicants, Keele provides offers for 75.2% of undergraduate applicants
University Offer Rates .

A university education is not a marker of intelligence - it just proves someone jumped through the necessary hoops. I have 2 Masters from RG universities but it doesn't mean I'm smarter than someone who doesn't. It just means that I had the time and resources to dedicate towards them and believed that these 2 Masters would help my career. Iwouldn't admire someone on the basis of having acquired a university education.

Priti may have attained the minimum requirements to get a Masters but isn't exactly a knock-out when it comes to debate or well-thought policy.

As a side note, you can get into some universities without secondary education (or further education) qualifications - usually on the basis of work experience. Which I think is great since it opens up opportunities to those who may have come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

You don’t, it was a rubbish example.

Abraid2 · 09/04/2020 10:43

Seriously people, get a grip. What makes people feeling sorry for those who couldn't give a shit about others?

Because we're more humane? If you can't feel sorry for people who wouldn't feel sorry for you, are you really any better than they are?

MintyMabel · 09/04/2020 10:49

I could understand someone saying you can be highly academic and expert in one area but lack practical wisdom to deal with different situations. Or a conscience

Exactly. There are so many valid criticisms that can be levelled at Priti Patel. Insulting her intelligence almost gives her a pass for her failings. “Ahh well, she’s as thick as shit, what would you expect,” when in fact, she’s quite well educated. For example, one who is thick might not actually understand that the opposition to affordable homes, claiming they are a waste of space, has a terrible impact on communities and affects the economy. One who is educated, especially in economics, is making that statement knowing that impact and is making the decision for other reasons.

Alsohuman · 09/04/2020 10:49

My humanity has limits and it stops short of someone who thinks pensioners dying as collateral damage of a flawed policy is a price worth paying.

Frompcat · 09/04/2020 10:49

You can not believe it if you want, makes no odds to me one way or the other. I know what happened.
