Where’s Dominic ‘herd immunity, only freaks and weirdos need apply’ Cummings?

Just that really. He was last seen running towards a London tube station, statement then comes out that he has symptoms (sure everyone else on that carriage were pleased) and we’ve heard fuck all since.

Has he realised his Rasputin days are over and legged it?

@Peregrina - he probably has nervous breakdown because he realised that there are more ruthless and cruel things on Earth than him. He probably thought he's is such a total psycho, he's invincible. The virus has shown him that a total lack of moral compass doesn't give him complete immunity.

cardibach · 08/04/2020 20:18

@Justanotherlurker you can’t have herd immunity without a vaccine. If you could we would have eradicated polio and smallpox without one, and measles would t be making a disastrous comeback in areas with low vaccine uptake. Talking about herd immunity without a vaccine shows you don’t understand how it works.

Peregrina · 08/04/2020 20:19

100 years ago herd immunity would have been pretty much all we had without modern medicine.

Except if people in the village of Eyam knew to isolate themselves when the plague reached them in 1665, it's not exactly a new theory is it?

FatherBuzzCagney · 08/04/2020 20:21

I see Priti Patel’s Masters is from the University of Essex, I can’t imagine that’s an establishment with the highest of academic standards.

Your imagination is way off, then. Haven't checked recently, but at the time she would have done a Masters in the Essex Uni Dept of Government it was one of the top rated politics departments in the UK - in the mid 1990s, it was THE top politics department for research. Way above somewhere like Cambridge, for example. The fact she has a masters from there (had no idea before this thread) is the only positive thing I've ever heard about her. That said, every department and every university takes some duffers (thick-as-a-whale-omelette Richard Burgon has a degree from Cambridge), as she proves in the case of Essex.

PigletJohn · 08/04/2020 20:21

Herd immunity without vaccine or cure, is not a solution, it's a result.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 08/04/2020 20:23

Erm he is probably really ill ?

I find it interesting how differing political views clearly trump humanity

Actually I find it loathsome

I hope we get a kinder PM and Tory party by the end of this

AutumnNymph · 08/04/2020 20:25

stands up and applauds @Tellmetruth4.

I do feel empathy for BoJo and most people affected by the virus, however I am struggling to dig deep enough in my well of sympathy to find for Cummings and like.

VegetableMunge · 08/04/2020 20:26

Hopefully wherever he's gone he won't come back. He's a piece of shit. Would agree that the Tories are less likely to be able to get away with him now Starmer is in.

longwayoff · 08/04/2020 20:28

On tv news last night, pics of 10 now dead, corona infected front line NHS workers. The majority, if not all, were people from other countries who chose to work here and paid with their lives. Priti Patel and her anti immigration supporters are doing well to stay out of the way with their mouths firmly shut. She should thank her lucky stars that so many NHS staff have stayed here in spite of the disgusting xenophobia expressed in this country in the past few years.

Justanotherlurker · 08/04/2020 20:30

I see Priti Patel’s Masters is from the University of Essex, I can’t imagine that’s an establishment with the highest of academic standards.

And yet if she was a labour politician who had made it to the front bench it would be seen as a positive, yet again the snobbery and hypocrisy strikes again.

It really is highlighting the racism due to low expectations and how some slanders are acceptable just because she bats for the opposition.

It's no wonder why MNHQ has decided to offer subscription considering MN flies under the banner of intelligent debate and posts like this are prevalent when it suits the political agenda.

HereDefenders · 08/04/2020 20:30

I don't think many on the thread have wished the virus upon him nor that he is seriously unwell, just that perhaps he may learn something out of this experience (empathy perhaps), or that others learn something - and get rid of him from government.

HereDefenders · 08/04/2020 20:33

I think it's more to do with the fact that advertising revenue has tanked. A paid sub will only get rid of the ads, it won't edit out people whose opinion you don't agree with.

Peregrina · 08/04/2020 20:35

Yet didn't Dianne Abbott have a Masters from Harvard, or was it a Doctorate. Yet she was vilified by a lot of people.

itsgettingweird · 08/04/2020 20:36

Actually an interesting point longway.
I usually can't stand PM either but he made an excellent point re immigration and nhs frontline workers the other day.

VegetableMunge · 08/04/2020 20:37

Christ, it was bad enough right wingers expecting us to pretend a dreadful individual wasn't dreadful because they'd got a bad case of coronavirus when we actually knew they had a bad case of coronavirus. The suggestion that Cummings does is nothing but speculation!

BackInTime · 08/04/2020 20:38

The man no morals, no empathy and no humanity, whatever the outcome I hope that those in the current government see him for the dangerous man he truly is and kick him out.

Tellmetruth4 · 08/04/2020 20:40

I wasn’t playing politics at all by highlighting Cummings disappearance. He was never elected. I’m also not a leftist, I’m an unashamed Blairite centrist who is delighted to see the end of Corbyn and hopefully Momentum.

Cummings is an opportunist snake oil salesman psychopath who infected the heart of government with the strange theories he picked up from the peculiar American techy characters he idolises. He ran away as he has no allies in cabinet now that the guy who was taken in by him is in hospital, partly because he was led to believe he wasn’t at risk by Cummings and his cabal of freaks and weirdos with their models and theories.

For an unelected individual he’s had a ridiculously serious and negative impact.

I think some of that applies to the obvious political shills that have infiltrated the site that offer nothing other than 'but tory so is bad' type comments.

If the same statement I had highlighted had been made of any other bame from labour it would be would rightly have been picked apart.

Some people need to step out of the bubble and realise that MN being consistently wrong for over a decade on all political points and the amount of political/activist shilling going on could also have had an impact on the advertising revenue.

The post I highlighted would be called out as racist and classist if it was directed at any labour mp.

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/04/2020 20:43

the University of Essex, I can’t imagine that’s an establishment with the highest of academic standards. Why do you say that? And if that's your view of Essex, just exactly what is your view of "former polytechnics"?

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 20:50

Mumsnet forums are so consistently wrong on everything that it has comforted me about coronavirus.

LittleLittleLittle · 08/04/2020 20:53

@HereDefenders unfortunately when people wish me dead I can't write nice things about them.

HereDefenders · 08/04/2020 20:53

I think everyone is over-reacting about the Essex comment Confused

I wouldn't say MN has been 'consistently wrong'. Winning an election doesn't mean you are 'right'. I doubt whether political views expressed on here has any impact on advertising revenue at all. The ads on my sidebar are all crappy fashion ones.

Merryoldgoat · 08/04/2020 20:55

If Raab and Sunik are incapacitated she's up next.

Look. I don’t wish this illness on anyone at all but Christ I’d like to see the utter shit show that Is Priti Patel leading a press conference.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 08/04/2020 20:55

Cummings deserves as much empathy as he’d give to an ordinary citizen of the U.K.

VegetableMunge · 08/04/2020 20:56

Some people need to step out of the bubble and realise that MN being consistently wrong for over a decade on all political points and the amount of political/activist shilling going on could also have had an impact on the advertising revenue.

The number of trolls and obviously paid infiltrators has done nothing to help the site (remember some of the very Russian bot sounding posters around the Brexit referendum?) but what you seem to be suggesting here is that it's a financial problem MN being more left wing than the general population. Actually I'm not sure it is given that Tory success over the past decade has been based on the electoral system rather than majority support, but let's assume you're right for the moment. It would be a daft advertiser to expect a site whose demographic is primarily people of childbearing age to be politically representative of the population, given that the older a voter is, the more likely they are to vote right wing. And this is hardly a new phenomenon.
