I object to being told to clap for anyone because I'm a contrary fucker.

It's all a bit 1984

LizB62A · 05/04/2020 00:30

And here's an FFS from me too

Thedogscollar · 05/04/2020 00:31

Oh my goodness you lot have made me cry with laughter some of these posts are hilarious. OP welcome to MN particularly AIBU.
Baptism of fire or what??? Flowers for you taking all that with good grace.

Re the clapping /dancing /shining it's all a load of bollocks and I am a midwife in NHS. The first clap yes very nice but not required every week.

I'm working tomorrow night so will miss HMQ's message to the nation. Can't wait to read the comments on that.

Femail · 05/04/2020 00:36

I think most parents will give around of applause when this is all over and kids are back at school Grin

1forAll74 · 05/04/2020 00:37

I don't even clap for my cats, and I do love them all.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 05/04/2020 00:40

@donquixotedelamancha
Yep they definitely need to be reported, giving clap to the kids
🤣🤣

BanKittenHeels · 05/04/2020 00:44

I feel that if you haven't got anything nice to say don't say it at all.

More utter balls.

FenellaMaxwell · 05/04/2020 00:49

For the love of god, stop the madness! I work for the NHS. The first clap for the NHS was nice and lots of us found it very touching, but it absolutely shouldn’t be a weekly thing - all it reminds most of us of is how many times we’ll have to hear it before this whole shit show is over.

As to clapping for kids, no fucking chance. They’re being asked to sit at home and build Lego and read a book for 6 weeks, not join the Battle of the bloody Somme. I have a kid, and quite frankly, like most 3 year olds, he’s being an utter arsehole about most of this. What am I clapping for?

HarrietTheShy · 05/04/2020 00:58

It's like the boy who clapped wolf. Devalues the message.

Namechange4nowt45 · 05/04/2020 00:58

Uh no thanks il pass, I seen all the guns discussing how their little brave snowflakes had there lives turned upside down due to lockdown Confused

Namechange4nowt45 · 05/04/2020 00:59

huns not guns Grin

shouldhavecalleditoatabix · 05/04/2020 01:02

Sometimes I think I'm a small voice in a sea of differing opinions and wonder 'maybe Mumsnet is not for me?'....

Then I see a thread like this and think 'yes, I've found my spiritual home where wine is my friend and sarcasm flows'

Literally I couldn't even quote my favourite comments because there were so many. Just no. Grin

thewinkingprawn · 05/04/2020 01:05

My kids are bloody delighted to have an extended holiday from school. Not sure they need a clap for it. Mind you I am a cynical old fucker and I think the clapping is a load of old BS for all groups we are now supposed to be out for. Not that I’m not grateful but there are many other better, more useful ways to show appreciation that a sodding clap.

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 05/04/2020 01:08

I was in a questionable relationship just before lockdown. I’ll be clapping for myself.

@ClapForTheClap

Thurmanmurman · 05/04/2020 01:17

Behave yourself

AllesAusLiebe · 05/04/2020 01:19

What absolute bullshit. I despair sometimes, I really do.

ALongHardWinter · 05/04/2020 01:23

This is a joke,yes?

givemeanamepls · 05/04/2020 01:32

19 pages in, not reading past first page. Is this real? What was found out pages 2-19?

RarePackOfLooRoll · 05/04/2020 01:37

Is this a late April Fools?

ArriettyJones · 05/04/2020 02:32

I think if the cats are getting recognition l, then the dogs definitely need an event to show support for them. Their walks have been rationed, after all. The cats just carry on as ever.

How about drinking for dogs?

daisychain01 · 05/04/2020 02:47

On the one hand it's heart breaking for people to lose their relative or friend.

On the other hand, it's massively attention seeking to take a video of oneself "dancing around my PPE" and put it on social media.

Extraordinary, why would someone do that!?!

As for clapping for kids, meh, leaves me cold, cba.

Can I please have a round of applause for being up in the middle of the goddam night for the past week, trying to get a sodding delivery slot (yes Tesco and Asda, I mean u!) for my DM. No, I thought no, because we shouldn't do stuff for the thanks we get, we should just do it! People want medals these days.

daisychain01 · 05/04/2020 02:49

Omg,it's like being in a time warp, I completely forgot about April Fools this year!!

PhilCornwall1 · 05/04/2020 02:53

Fuck that!! Are we going to be clapping for something every bloody week (or day!!) now?

The thing is, it worked once, twice was really pushing it, anymore now and it's ignored.

SecretWitch · 05/04/2020 03:11

If I clapped for my daughter she would shriek at me that I just messed up her animal crossing thingy

Op, if you are still here, I know your heart was in the right place.

z0fl0ra · 05/04/2020 03:28

Tuesday night is clap for those who aren’t getting any! With so many people isolated away from partners they don’t live with we’re all doing a clap and a moan for those who aren’t able to get any action for the foreseeable future Grin
