AIBU to plan on having a BBQ

Hi,

I've seen such conflicting advice and information on this lockdown that I'm starting to doubt my own judgement. I've tried to follow the lockdown to the letter. DH and I are working full time from home and i've been out once since lockdown for food shopping. We have 2 DC (4, 6) who are home and havent been out, they run around in the garden for exercise.

I have some BBQ coal in the shed and was wondering if it would be unreasonable/ wrong for DH, me and the 2 DC to have a BBQ on Sunday when the weather is predicted to be a bit nicer. We wouldnt need to buy any supplies or meet anyone else and it would really brighten a very stressed and difficult week but I dont want to be disrespectful or undermine the lockdown, esp as I have family both on the shielding list and working in the NHS, so I really understand how important it is to delay the spread of Covid 19.

We're in a standard 1930s 3 bed semi so we have a nice sized garden but not huge. If we do go ahead, should we go in if our neighbours also come into their garden? Or set up at the bottom of the garden? I usually keep the kids inside during the actual cooking as DD4 is asthmatic but they find eating BBQ food outside to be a huge novelty/ treat.

You can go for a walk, because they are relying on people to use common sense.

So many on this thread seem to just want to do what the hell they like, that’s why you will end up in lockdown.

Same applies where I live. Too many no heads about.

News right now “people must stay indoors if they can”. Headline

justasking111 · 03/04/2020 21:04

On Sunday at noon everyone should be in their garden on their balconies with a drink and a bbq on the go, I expect you all to clap, whistle, bang pans coz you`re still here and the sun is smiling down on you.

Rebootingagain · 03/04/2020 21:06

“This is not a request, it is an instruction. Stay at home and do your part”

News right now bbc 1

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/04/2020 21:08

We are having one Sunday. Go for it.

Can't believe there's people saying don't tbh

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 03/04/2020 21:08

fine when you have kids and you are up by then, but no way would I have been up so early pre-children Grin Have a bit of sympathy for your neighbours!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it - I could go for a run without risking to bump into anyone (plus my youngest is 5 year old, so no chance of being in bed past 10am in my house!)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2020 21:10

As in don't all flock to the beach, countryside etc. Not don't go for a sensible walk where you live or to the supermarket.

justasking111 I'm might do that and have some of the chocolate that got Rebootingagain frothing at the mouth!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 03/04/2020 21:12

the sad thing is, if people had behaved, there was no reason to close the beach to people actually living opposite. A walk is a walk - just reinforce the lack of guards and the ban from swimming. But as usual, idiots have spoiled it for everybody else.

cardibach · 03/04/2020 21:14

Robooting he said that in reference to The fear people would go to beauty spots/meet with family when the weather is good at the weekend. Not about people walking to by food as infrequently as they can manage. Lots of supermarkets have a limit on milk. One carton is enough for me - if it’s not, going for a second is not against the rules or stupid or selfish. And I say that as someone who is actually staying in as much as humanly possible because I have to go to work every now and then supervising the children of essential workers and I want to keep my potential viral load as low as possible. I’d still go for a walk for milk or bread if I ran out.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 03/04/2020 21:15

I work in the nhs and am bloody well behaving myself
Fuck off reboot you goady twat
Trust me I don't need the fucking bbc to give me updates
I'll bbq in my back garden
Shop and exercise within the rules as are all my nhs colleagues
Idiots like you don't make it better you actually make it harder
So fucking do one
Now where's my he second bottle gone

Rebootingagain · 03/04/2020 21:16

justasking111 I'm might do that and have some of the chocolate that got Rebootingagain frothing at the mouth!

Not the sharpest bunch on here are we?

I never said don’t have chocolate, or wine, or beer.

Just limit trips out. No one should be going to a shop more than they absolutely have to. When you are there but what you want, but don’t “nip out” for milk and chocolate.

Seriously. Put the news on now. They are telling people to stay home if at all possible. Not dick around with a trip out for chocolate or a bit of a walk.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 03/04/2020 21:17

Trust me
Like I said
I don't need to watch the bbc
Or listen to online goady wankers
Now do fuck off and self flagellate

cardibach · 03/04/2020 21:19

A bit of a walk is expressly listed as a good reason to be out, though Rebooting. If you need milk I don’t see that whether you express it as a ‘nip’ or an essential shopping trip really affects anything. Fact is, Johnson didn’t say one shop a week, he said ‘as infrequently as possible’ which for some people is twice a week - and they don’t have to explain the reasons for that to you.

Frankiecandle · 03/04/2020 21:21
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2020 21:22

No, you're not the sharpest are you? You obviously need the government to spell out exactly what you can or can't do as you seem to lack any ability to think for yourself.

Go shopping infrequently they say. I go once a week. How much more infrequent do you want?

And in case it still hasn't got through - You. Can. Go. For. A. Walk. Once. A. Day.

Rebootingagain · 03/04/2020 21:27

And in case it still hasn't got through - You. Can. Go. For. A. Walk. Once. A. Day

Let’s see in a week.

People keep taking the piss and that will be taken away.

News now is clear - stay home.

France, Spain and Italy are where we will be in a week or so when people keep insisting to go for a walk

Just stay home for a few days ffs. That’s what they are very clearly asking you to do without wanting to resort to enforcing it because people aren’t bright enough to just stay in.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/04/2020 21:27

I've had half a bottle of wine and half an Easter egg today. Yesterday I had a dominos delivered 😔

Tomorrow I'm going to sit in my hot tub drinking Prosecco all afternoon and then Sunday have a bbq.

Also going to have a walk every day.

No point in sitting around being miserable all the time 🤷🏼‍♀️ gotta make the best of the situation

Topseyt · 03/04/2020 21:33

Reboot, I am sticking closely to the rules. I will still go for my daily permitted walk and will buy some luxuries with my weekly essentials shop if I want to.

After all, if it is all but illegal for me to buy luxuries essentials then the supermarkets should not be stocking them. They are. So I will.

You seem very overinvested in what others are doing.

Frankiecandle · 03/04/2020 21:34

Lots of goady twats to choose from on here

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2020 21:37

Who said anything about a weeks time? Jesus Christ, some people are dim! Like most people I will live to the restrictions in place now, not what might happen in a weeks time.

News is now clear, you can still go for a walk.

hobnobs I'm not even drunk, just enjoying the entertainment! Some posters really are the gift that keeps on giving!

@Rebootingagain...hush now .

Rebootingagain · 03/04/2020 21:48

Fair enough.

Most of you seem unable to read.

Luxuries are fine, just get them when you are out anyway.

They will extend lockdown this week because of people insisting on pushing the rules as far as they can when the government have hoped people would use common sense.

New conference tonight was clear. Stay at home unless you really have to.

Enjoy your freedom - it will be gone soon in the same way it is in France, Spain, Italy, India......
