AIBU to plan on having a BBQ

Hi,

I've seen such conflicting advice and information on this lockdown that I'm starting to doubt my own judgement. I've tried to follow the lockdown to the letter. DH and I are working full time from home and i've been out once since lockdown for food shopping. We have 2 DC (4, 6) who are home and havent been out, they run around in the garden for exercise.

I have some BBQ coal in the shed and was wondering if it would be unreasonable/ wrong for DH, me and the 2 DC to have a BBQ on Sunday when the weather is predicted to be a bit nicer. We wouldnt need to buy any supplies or meet anyone else and it would really brighten a very stressed and difficult week but I dont want to be disrespectful or undermine the lockdown, esp as I have family both on the shielding list and working in the NHS, so I really understand how important it is to delay the spread of Covid 19.

We're in a standard 1930s 3 bed semi so we have a nice sized garden but not huge. If we do go ahead, should we go in if our neighbours also come into their garden? Or set up at the bottom of the garden? I usually keep the kids inside during the actual cooking as DD4 is asthmatic but they find eating BBQ food outside to be a huge novelty/ treat.

I'm heading for wankered

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2020 21:50

I really don't think it will go as far as it has in India, I don't think the UK police will be flogging dissenters with canes...

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2020 21:52

I hope you're not going to have to go shopping to replenish your wine stash hobnobs!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 03/04/2020 21:52

Reboot is probs wanking furiously at the thought of canes

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 03/04/2020 21:53

For his pisshead wife 😂😂😂😂😂

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2020 21:57

What more can you want?! I'm the one working from home here (DH can't work as he's a self employed handyman) so he's now a full time house husband bringing me cups of tea (peppermint so I don't need milk) and the odd biscuit.

What's the betting this thread has been pulled by the morning?!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 03/04/2020 21:59

Oh keep posting reboot so I can finish the bottle

Roussette · 03/04/2020 22:12

So many on this thread seem to just want to do what the hell they like, that’s why you will end up in lockdown

Rubbish.

You're banging on about someone who wanted to get some milk from a corner shop and bought chocolate at the same time. We are all doing what we should so stop it.

Luxuries are fine, just get them when you are out anyway

Doing that.

New conference tonight was clear. Stay at home unless you really have to

Doing that.

Just stay home for a few days ffs

Doing that.

NOW What is your Problem??

People on here are doing all of these things and you are being beyond stupid having a go at everyone.

I can only imagine you are pissed off that CV19 has reached you on Isle of Man from the mainland of England.

Well... it was not us.

PineappleDanish · 03/04/2020 23:04

Still waiting for an explanatory why going for a walk in your own, at a quiet time, crossing the road to avoid other people is dangerous?

Because sitting in the house looking at four walls all day is far more damaging to mental heAlth.

And how do you make a couple of pints of milk last a week?

Ken1976 · 03/04/2020 23:12

I thought the ban on garden fires was to stop the need for the fire brigade being called out if it becomes uncontrollable?
I don't think the ban is anything to do with covid 19 and people with breathing difficulties. It means the fire brigade can keep socially distant wherever possible. In the same way they are asking us to avoid unnecessary journeys in our cars to avoid possible breakdowns/crashes so that we don't need to use breakdown companies or emergency services thus allowing them to maintain social distancing too

malificent7 · 03/04/2020 23:30

There is no ban against bonfires ...
Just got the letter plus guidance through post...not one mention of a bonfire ban.

malificent7 · 03/04/2020 23:37

Just never go out ever ever again. Eat nettles. Easy.

Actionhasmagic · 03/04/2020 23:38

I think we are all constantly worrying. We need to find ways to have fun at home. Bbq safely is a great idea

How about you explain to me why going out for a walk (potentially touchingl gates, handrails, being near other people) does less to stop the spread of this virus than just staying at home.

Re milk - use less milk. What is this countries obsession with milk? I like crisps, and bacon, and spinach and cottage cheese. I am just doing without unless I am in a shop anyway because compared to most of the rest of the world they are just luxury items.

Ffs. Lots of people don’t have soap. Mumbai etc are going to melt down when this hits and people here can’t even be arsed to do without milk or a walk.

I despair. Come back next week and tell me how the world wide (and UK) situation is panning our because of selfish people who can’t stay home and moderate their lifestyles for a few weeks.

SpillTheTeaa · 03/04/2020 23:44

You'll be fine in your own garden with your own household. Just sling a sausage over the fence for the neighbour Grin

Lynda07 · 03/04/2020 23:45

Of course you can have a barbecue, what you do in your own back yard with your immediate family is your business. I expect there will be plenty of barbecues as the weather gets better - as long as people can buy the food to go on them :-).

The more the merrier, I love barbecues.

KenDodd · 03/04/2020 23:49

No. The only thing you're allowed to do is stay home and cry. Don't open a window either, germs will get in.

Topseyt · 04/04/2020 03:52

Reboot, here's a hint that might be useful to you.

People ARE abiding by the rules as several of us have explained already. Stop rising to every perceived bait and acting as the fun police.

Realistically, nobody expects lockdown to just last 3 weeks. It was always going to be extended.

Now let me be clear. I work from home. I go out once a day for exercise and to the supermarket once a week when, shock horror, I might also buy nice luxury items.

KatherineJaneway · 04/04/2020 06:33

Wow, this thread changed a bit since I last read it.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 04/04/2020 06:52

Reboot are you hard of reading or just making up your own rules as you go on.

People are allowed out for shopping, even if that’s luxury foods, there is no banned items.

People are allowed out for walks... even if they touch handrails (which most people with a brain cell won’t) just because YOU are doing something doesn’t mean everyone should also be doing that.

You sounds absolutely miserable and a kill joy.

Namesgonenow · 04/04/2020 07:01

Reboot needs to buy a few canes to flagellate themselves for two and a half sessions each day.

cologne4711 · 04/04/2020 07:46

There is no ban against bonfires

There should be. I've written to my MP asking the government to consider introducing a ban when they review the lockdown. They are anti-social at the best of times, this isn't the best of times, and and as well as filling peoples' lungs with smoke we don't need the fire brigade having to deal with an out of control one. FGS people, just hold onto your waste.

Whether tips should be closed is another question - given most people go in their cars, it should be possible to let people in one by one in a socially distancing way,

Lex234 · 04/04/2020 07:59

I am unapologetic in that milk, in this house, is essential.

If I am working 60 plus hour weeks in ridiculous circumstances, you can fuck the fuck off if you think I will be doing so without a decent coffee with milk in the morning.

Lex234 · 04/04/2020 08:07

And enjoy your barbecues, think we will also partake! Its a shit situation and we all need to find things to enjoy and make the best of it. That is the "Blitz spirit", not rationing ourselves to one porridge oat a fortnight and smiling only if we clap/dance/sing/ for the NHS at the same time, our mental health and wellbeing is important too!
