Good idea as I am worried about my Mum and Dad having enough food - elderly and very vulnerable - but no delivery slots where they are Sad

aWeaponCalledtheWord · 23/03/2020 19:05

this is such a good idea, thank you so much for posting OP. waiting to see if i’m on the ‘shielding’ list but i definitely class as vulnerable and was starting to freak out about no delivery slots for weeks.

will order on on thursday if my hotly anticipated Asda delivery turns out to just be a roll of cling film and some cat biscuits...

cardoon · 23/03/2020 19:10

I've just this minute had my first regular grocery delivery from Morrisons and the driver left all the shopping in the yellow crates in the garage and left. Is this normal? Anyone know what is the procedure for returning them?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 23/03/2020 19:11

Is it just me or are there no more delivery slots? Hoping to order one for my elderly Dad's address.

mariwhee · 23/03/2020 19:15

FFS, they've sold out already - now I am panicking!!

aWeaponCalledtheWord · 23/03/2020 19:29

no delivery dates available at the moment.

all this will settle down once people get used to the new normal.

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 23/03/2020 19:30

@mariwhee no way :( they may put more on? Try amazon prime now. I managed to get my essentials through them. They've extended delivery up to midnight. It's bare basics again, but worth a go.

@aWeaponCalledtheWord I think you're right. People can only buy so much stuff, surely. This is just silly.

NoParticularPattern · 23/03/2020 19:37

No delivery dates for us. None for normal Morrison’s shop, Tesco, Asda. Sainsbury’s, Waitrose etc either. Nothing in any of the shops. Honestly at what point are people going to stop buying thousands of pounds worth of food? Where are they putting it all?!

H1978 · 23/03/2020 19:38

@cardoon Morrisons shopping always comes in colour coded bags like Ocado and you return previous times bags and they reimburse you, but at the moment they are not charging for bags and ask you not to return previous ones until they say so then they’ll refund you once things are back to normal

It maybe different procedure for different stores not too sure

cardoon · 23/03/2020 19:53

Mine was delivered, and left, in big yellow plastic crates Confused

feebeecat · 23/03/2020 20:11

Thank-you for posting OP - have ordered one for my 89 year old mum (who can’t get a delivery slot for love nor money) 👍

girlwhowearsglasses · 23/03/2020 20:17

I am thinking these are what the gov is talking about with the free deliveries for the vulnerable people they are asking to isolate for 12 weeks....?

SimplySteveRedux · 23/03/2020 20:27

How are you not on the vulnerable persons list?!

My partner is an unstable type 1 diabetic. She's also registered blind, and has rheumatoid arthritis amongst other conditions. She also takes a drug that along with the diabetes reduces immune system.

I'm bedbound, using a wheelchair.

Yet my partner seemingly isn't on the list. She's really pissed off.

FFSBringbackLangCleg · 23/03/2020 20:53

Thank you very much, op. I’ve ordered one, and I’m feeling relieved.

MargotSimpson · 23/03/2020 21:47

Great idea but think the site might now have crashed!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 23/03/2020 22:06

I was so excited to see these as we are having to self isolate as is my DGM so I was going to send her one but sold out in my area

Fraggle45 · 24/03/2020 06:25

Can't wait to see what's inside them

ArriettyJones · 24/03/2020 06:33

Probably £17.50’s worth of produce. Hmm

The more I look at the photo, the more I suspect a con. Too late. I’ve ordered mine for the weekend 🤷🏽‍♀️

Justchecking2020 · 24/03/2020 07:01

Sold out and limited to two boxes. As I am feeding 8 people (our family and my parents) even if we could order that would be only half of us fed. :(

BarbaraofSeville · 24/03/2020 07:20

Or all of you fed for three days or so. They're not claiming they're a proper alternative to a normal shop for absolutely any size family with any possible dietary requirement, they're just trying to increase capacity to get some deliveries to as many people as possible in times where demand massively exceeds the available capacity using what food they know they have available.

It might also give them some breathing space against the panic buyers because the shortages in the shops don't seem to be going away even when purchase limits are in force and they claim the supply chain is going as fast as it can.

DamnYouAutoCarrot · 24/03/2020 07:57

I'm glad you all got them before the panic buying resumed again last night!

The supermarket websites crashed and even the little sites were overwhelmed. People are just not thinking of everyone else.

I can't see them overcharging for the boxes. They'd be fools to do it, people will just boycott them when this is all over. I honestly think it's a novel way to get food out to those who need it most right now, not the greedy idiots who are clearing the shelves.

@SimplySteveRedux I have no words. That astounds me. I hope you are both managing OK and have support.

bobstersmum · 24/03/2020 10:27

It says its not delivered from local store, it comes from somewhere central and is packed up and delivered by DPD. I can't see it being overpriced, it won't be exactly as pictured on the photo, that's just to give an example of the variety of things. I ordered one and it's coming tomorrow and so has my mum, will get them regularly if it's OK when it comes, if not then it was worth a shot!
My local shop is doing deliveries now too, maybe everyone try ringing their local shop to see if they are too?

PerkingFaintly · 24/03/2020 10:31

My usual Morrison's delivery arrived. Fair few sensible substitutions.

I'm very glad to get it at all.

Alsohuman · 24/03/2020 10:36

Morrisons is really acquitting itself well now. I went for “silver hour” this morning. They’re limiting to three of any item and there’s plenty on the shelves - meat, pasta and canned tomatoes are back and they’ve obviously tweaked the supply chain to prioritise food as the florist has gone. I now don’t need to shop again for at least a week so will save the boxes in case I get ill and can’t go out at all.
