AIBU to feel that it's insensitive for Westminster Abby to ring it's bells to celebrate Andrew's 60th?

No, you're not unreasonable at all. There should be no public marking of his birthday of any kind. Its disgraceful

The Queen is NOT coming out of this whole situation at all well

CommunistLegoBloc · 19/02/2020 14:08

YANBU.

SerendipityJane · 19/02/2020 14:10

Anything which brings a republic that bit closer is OK by me.

Star81 · 19/02/2020 14:11

The thing is he’s not actually been found guilty or even charged with anything. There isn’t even an arrest warrant out for him. Therefore, from that point of view the normal should take place.

The fact though remains he have made very very questionable choices and this does need to be addressed. The relevant authorities are presumably dealing with this and all this trial by media isn’t helping. I would prefer the authorities to be allowed to do their job in the correct legal process without the crowd frenzy media storm. This doesn’t help anyone.

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 14:11

Also, Fergie tweeting a happy birthday too, I just feel really u easy about the whole celebrating and marking it in such a public way.

Yanbu

Tentativesteps133 · 19/02/2020 14:15

I thought the Royal Family Instagram post about him was misjudged

GoFiguire · 19/02/2020 14:17

The church rang their bells for me on my birthday but then it was on a Sunday and I was born at 10am.

Mookie81 · 19/02/2020 14:20

Were you accused of having sex with trafficked girls though @GoFiguire? Hmm

ilovesooty · 19/02/2020 14:22

He's been an embarrassment to the Royal family regardless of any potential guilt. No he shouldn't have flags flying for his birthday. I bet Prince Charles will put a stop to it in the future.

MissSueFlay · 19/02/2020 14:25

Flying flags and ringing bells is a bit dated for anyone other than the monarch I think. Nothing about him that's more special than anyone else, though 50 years ago people felt differently, more deferential.
I don't object to it because it's him and the whole Epstein thing, I object to it for anyone other than the monarch, as our Head of State.

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 14:26

I really can't get my head round it.

Even being associated with Epstein is bad enough but to have actually been accused of having perpetrated by an alleged victim of human trafficking and sexual abuse makes me wonder wtf the Royals are thinking with the public celebrations and ceremonial bell ringing Angry

Westminster Abbey is what is known as a 'Royal Peculiar'

You can draw your own conclusions from that...

SerendipityJane · 19/02/2020 14:29

wtf the Royals are thinking with the public celebrations and ceremonial bell ringing

Being Royal. Which means not giving a flying fuck what you. Or I. Or indeed anyone in the world thinks.

I would say you should try it sometime, but it turns out you can't.

I'm surprised the Firm aren't using recent events there to pare down some of this frippary.

ilovesooty · 19/02/2020 14:40

Who the hell is @SerendipityJane being unkind to? What a load of goady bollocks.

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 14:43

She was, insinuating I'm incapable of controlling my own emotions or thoughts regarding what I give a "flying fuck" about.

If anything this is the goady bollocks @ilovesooty

Not seen him in Woking yet...

TheQueef · 19/02/2020 14:45

Got to agree Sooty what did Jane say that is so different to the OP?

Or were you so desperate to VS it burst out?

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 14:46

Wink @Jocasta2018

She means you can't try being royal....

ilovesooty · 19/02/2020 14:47

@Nippybutsweet i don't think she was implying or saying that at all.

pigsDOfly · 19/02/2020 14:47

Yeah, also don't understand how SerendipityJane is being mean, or who she's being mean to, apart maybe to the Royals.

Either Prince Andrew is part of the whole Royal circus or he isn't. We were all told, in light of his behaviour and ill judged friendships, that he was going to be stepping back as far as having royal duties goes.

Surely that should also mean he doesn't get to have bells rung on his birthday.
