AIBU to feel that it's insensitive for Westminster Abby to ring it's bells to celebrate Andrew's 60th?

A big Happy Birthday to all February 19th birthday people out there! Including Prince Andrew, every republican's favourite royal. :)

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 15:04

@WickedCrown

This. 100% this.
Would have been much more dignified imo.

Has he been stripped of his title? I thought he still had it. H and M are dropping their titles.

TheQueef · 19/02/2020 15:06

Messi Roger Melly is a personal hero of mine.

Idea opportunity imo Wicked telling that they chose to draw any attention.

messolini9 · 19/02/2020 15:07

I'm in no doubt you can't percieve it from your comment but I can and that is what matters to me.

But I did perceive it @Nippybutsweet - simply pointed out that your assumption was erroneous.
However, I'm hardly going to issue a Royal decree commanding you to believe me, so if you prefer to hold on to the notion that you have been insulted, it is your absolute perogative to do so.
Despite the inherent solipsism of the belief, or the fact that nobody else agrees with it.

drspouse · 19/02/2020 15:07

I have a birthday today and was really hoping for a royal flag going spare to put up our flagpole chimney.

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/02/2020 15:07

I imagine those good folk at Viz might make able administrators of such a system.

halcyondays · 19/02/2020 15:10

They always do put the Happy Birthday messages on social media even when it’s not a big birthday so not putting it on would also have attracted comments in the press.

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 15:11

@messolini9

Hiw kind of you to agree that I'm allowed believe what I like regardless of being wrong in your eyes.

Makes me feel so much better that you pointed that out to me in such a convoluted, patronising manner.

Just shows that they do not give a shit and think they are above the law.

Its not like he's even a senior royal is? Why does he need a fuss? People turn 60 every day of the week.

messolini9 · 19/02/2020 15:12

Oh, I'm all heart Nippy.

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 15:14

Never doubted it messo Wink

I cannot believe the Queen was so tone deaf as to publicly celebrate her disgraced son's birthday. Really, really ill judged and offensive. But I guess she can do what the hell she wants, however stupid and offensive we find it - born to rule over us.

ilovesooty · 19/02/2020 15:15

Well @Nippybutsweet if you want to feel insulted despite @SerendipityJane confirming that wasn't her intention you're of course free to crack on. Last few posts say more about you than about her from my perspective.

WickedCrown · 19/02/2020 15:16

That would have been the lesser of two evils then.

They should never have posted about it.

I've read the Facebook comments on their post. They are 95% negative, though some lackey is probably deleting as much as they can.

AryaStarkWolf · 19/02/2020 15:16

No, you're not unreasonable at all. There should be no public marking of his birthday of any kind. Its disgraceful

The Queen should just take him out for Pizza

ilovesooty · 19/02/2020 15:17

He's supposed to be her favourite isn't he? I suppose even the Queen has her blind spots. He's always presented as spoilt and entitled even before the controversy.

Nippybutsweet · 19/02/2020 15:19

@ilovesooty

Crack on I shall, as it's my prerogative or so I've been informed.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/02/2020 15:21

She was, insinuating I'm incapable of controlling my own emotions or thoughts regarding what I give a "flying fuck" about.

I didn't read it that way.

LochJessMonster · 19/02/2020 15:22

The thing is he’s not actually been found guilty or even charged with anything. There isn’t even an arrest warrant out for him. Therefore, from that point of view the normal should take place. this

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/02/2020 15:26

Some of the things they are supposed to swap for all that money and privilege are duty, honour, integrity. He has none of those so why does he get the privilege? Not being found guilty isn't really the same.

DivinationDandy · 19/02/2020 15:32

I agree with your OP.

I also agree with @SerendipityJane ‘s posts.

Forgetfebuary · 19/02/2020 15:36

Op you've mis read what Jane said.

You should apologise to her. She's saying the same thing for goodness sake.

Re Andrew it's disgusting that this embarrassing oaf is being thrust on an undeserving public.

1forsorrow · 19/02/2020 15:43

He's innocent until proved guilty and he hasn't even been charged with anything. At the moment the only thing against him is his dodgy choice of friend but are we all responsible for what our friends do?

They are ringing a bell, it really isn't worth getting worked up about.

^ Yep.
