Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

Trump is following his impulse to punish New York because the governor Cuomo has stood up to him and made him look like the dumbass throwback that he is.
Trump is not fit for the modern world, he's like part of humanity mark 3 when the rest of us have moved on to humanity mark 5, he does not have the sophistication or the cognitive dexterity to understand modern Life.
and this primitive version of a human is lording it over the whole world 🙈

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 29/03/2020 13:23

Trump is a symptom. The problem is the mindset of his supporters.

UYScuti · 29/03/2020 13:28

But doesn't that mean that a minority of people with an extremely dysfunctional mindset are having an undue influence on the world?

DetroitLake · 29/03/2020 13:35

Errr....as much as I dislike Trump's politics and personality it was not a bunch of Americans that cooked this shit up. Why the hate!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/03/2020 14:04

It is extremely unlikely that anyone "cooked this shit up". As with every other neovirus, such as the Spanish flu in 1918-1920, it is a thing which occurs in nature without any causal human intervention whatever.

It was however a bunch of Americans, primarily Trump and followers of his in positions of power, who very stupidly put their heads in the sand and hoped the virus would ignore them if they pretended not to see it.

The whole "It'll be fine, we only have five cases" nonsense and complete refusal to advise taking any precautions at all was Trump.

Hence the dislike -- of Trump. And of his followers who went along with his folly, but who will not be the only ones to die as a result of it.

DetroitLake · 29/03/2020 14:24

The English superiority complex is alive and well I see.

Whether it was bat soup it was cooked up in or wuhans level 4 lab it was indeed cooked up.

UYScuti · 29/03/2020 14:36

Are you saying that the virus was deliberately manufactured and released Detroit?
you don't believe it was an accident, rather that it was a deliberate act of sabotage?

HoldMyLobster · 29/03/2020 15:15

I've just been rereading issues of The Week from late Jan and Feb.

Throughout, people in the media (left wing and right wing) were saying it wasn't going to be as bad as flu, and why should anyone take it seriously.

Most countries appear to have been spectacularly badly prepared for this - from China trying to cover it up in the early stages to European countries that are now in crisis to the US which is just starting to reap the rewards of its inaction.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/03/2020 15:39

Are you asserting that Trump and his toadies are not "a bunch of Americans", Detroit? If he is not American, surely he ought not to be POTUS. And if you dislike the phrase "a bunch of Americans", why did you use it? I was quoting you, in the post above mine.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 29/03/2020 17:41

The USA is importing millions of surgical masks and other essentials from China. Not the other way round.

Under Trump, the USA has already abdicated moral and collective leadership of the free world. As the world looks for assistance in fighting this pandemic, the lead will come from China.

16th Century, the Portuguese Century
17th Century, the Spanish Century
18th Century, the French Century
19th Century, the British Century
20th Century, the American Century

I for one welcome our new Chinese Overlords. Hmm

TheNorthWestPawsage · 29/03/2020 19:36

His concern for those affected by covid-19 and their worried/grieving families is overwhelming.

Lweji · 29/03/2020 21:54

Spain has already returned faulty tests and The Netherlands, I believe, are complaining about faulty masks sent by the Chinese.

It's not good news for the US.

Lweji · 29/03/2020 21:55

Or rather bought from China. Not quite the same thing, although close.

HoldMyLobster · 29/03/2020 21:58

Is the US buying tests from China?

Lweji · 29/03/2020 22:00

Tests, I don't think, but equipment.
With factories rushing to produce high numbers, quality control must be at an all time low.

I wonder how they talked him into doing this. Probably convinced him that April 30 was his 'plan' all along and his previous "President Trump's 15 Days to Slow the Spread" was a MSM 'Hoax'. Soon we'll hear him say "I never said that. Maybe I said it you never know, but maybe I didn't. But I never said it. Fake News!".

lionheart · 30/03/2020 01:27

He's having trouble with those pesky journalists.

Never mind being awake during Benghazi. 9-5 would be useful.

'With the world consumed by the threat of the coronavirus, the president has increasingly focused on taking political advantage of the crisis he initially tried to downplay.'

TheSparklyPussycat · 30/03/2020 11:32

I watched most of Trump's briefing yesterday, and the day before. Though punctuality is the politeness of kings, it seems that punctuality is not the politeness of this president.

What was he waffling on about when he claimed some states had computers that were 45 years old?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/03/2020 11:36

1975... Hmmm. Wasn't Microsoft founded in 1975?

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 30/03/2020 11:40

And the doctors are hoarding the PPE and selling it on the black market 'out the back door.'

Lweji · 30/03/2020 11:57

Someone shared this joke with me this morning.

Trump, Johnson, Merkel, the Pope and a 10 year old are on a plane. The engines stop. There are only 4 parachutes.
Trump grabs one, says he's the world's greatest genius and needs to save the world and jumps.
Johnson says he's needed to save the UK, grabs one and jumps.
Merkel says she needs to save Germany, grabs one and jumps.
The Pope turns to the boy and says that as he's old, etc, the boy should have the last parachute and jump.
The boy says there's no need. There are two parachutes left. The genius had taken his backpack.

I do hope individual states manage to control the virus. Maybe even coordinating with each other. If only there was a higher level that could coordinate it all. HmmWink
