Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

TheSparklyPussycat · 30/03/2020 14:40

He may have said 4 to 5 years. If so Blush

AcrossthePond55 · 30/03/2020 19:37

Thanks for the laugh, Lweji. I needed that today.

Roussette · 31/03/2020 07:42

I've come on this thread before checking the news this morning.

Woke in the night (CV worries like everyone else), checked my phone, went on Twitter.

Am I right in saying Trump held a presser in the Rose Garden to talk about Coronavirus and reassure the nation. Supposedly.
He asked his mate along, who owns a pillow company called My Pillow. Then, just as a perk for the mate, Trump told him to take the microphone, which he did. This guy then did a live advert for his company, cloaked as a speech about COVID, peppering the speech with the words My Pillow.

Has the world gone effing mad? Just off now to check I didn't fall back to sleep clutching my phone and dreampt this.

Shock Shock Shock

TheNorthWestPawsage · 31/03/2020 08:31

That sums it up pretty well Rousette

Oh, and he prayed. That we should all thank God for giving us The Orange One to lead the US through the darkness. (Or words to that effect)

Side note: the hair was blowing about in the breeze, but it did look as if he's run out of 'Bimbo Blonde' hair dye and is now going for a tint of 'Silver Psycho' - but maybe it was my telly.

Roussette · 31/03/2020 08:47
Grin Just been off to check it all. No dream. And the 'thank God for giving us Trump'. Need to go and check the hair situation.

....and 48% of the population are loving it. "Doing A Good Job."

UYScuti · 31/03/2020 13:49

I think we are going to see a new version of trump, he will completely break free from his moorings and jump all of the sharks

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/03/2020 15:02

There is an absolutely simple reason for Trump to claim that China's figures are inaccurate, and for him to have tried to prevent or reduce testing for cv19.

328,239,523 people in the USA
1,427,647,786 people in China

Total cases in the USA 164,790
Total cases in China 81,518

Total deaths in the USA 3,178
Total deaths in China 3,305

He has to spin this so he is not doing worse, and he has to do that soon. When American deaths overtake Chinese ones, people are going to notice. They are also going to notice the USA had two months more warning than China did, and Trump took no action at all during that time -- indeed, he loudly denied there was any threat.

Lweji · 31/03/2020 18:17

He's managed to make America great at covid. No 1

Did you see that the Mexican border was closed somewhere because there were too many cases on the US side? The irony...

UYScuti · 31/03/2020 18:51

how long till he starts bragging they have the most cases:(
Seems Fauci has taken the role of 'Trump whisperer' I fear he has made a Faustian pact and trump will take his pound of flesh:(

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 31/03/2020 19:06

Yup. The Mexicans are going to build the wall and pay for it.

Interesting article Lion
'A president unfit for a pandemic
Much of the suffering and death coming was preventable The president has blood on his hands'

doesnt he just, tantamount to shooting someone on 5th avenue perhaps?

lionheart · 01/04/2020 01:25

Apparently, this is all because he was distracted by impeachment.

Roussette · 01/04/2020 08:11

So he can't think of two things at once... rightio.... Hmm

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 01/04/2020 09:41

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime - I fear your faith in the blindly loyal Trump base's ability to notice and comprehend those figures without bleating: "fake news" is unjustified Sad

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 01/04/2020 09:42

@Roussette - not sure he can even manage to think about one thing at a time.

Oh, I know that Trump's base, poor things, cannot be redeemed; they are going to vote for him whatever happens and are incapable of reasoned thought about the matter.

The people who are a great deal more important are the other 67% of the American population who are able to vote. If 33% of those are staunch Democrat to match the 33% who are staunch Republican, that leaves 34% who might go either way, and those may be capable of rational thought. If they are, and if they notice that Trump has so signally failed their country, they might perhaps be influenced against him by his behaviour.

UYScuti · 01/04/2020 12:37

I don't think he thinks he just 'intuits', opens his mouth and lets the sound come out because he's a mouthpiece for God or something like that

lionheart · 01/04/2020 13:35

He certainly managed to hold his rallies and golf during the impeachment period.

This is interesting:
