Acquitted but still impeached ... Trump thread 99

TheClaws · 12/02/2020 03:00

I’ll tell you a funny story. I’m a member of a very right-wing US politics online discussion group for kicks. The moderator of the group controls - and gets involved in - every discussion. (I should say the membership of this group is over 50K and the number of posts a day is generally 30 or so.) She’s also a typical Trumpian in that she reels off the standard “lamestream mass media” etc lines” and she mutes anyone who disagrees with her.

Anyway, I took her on eventually. She said that the Democratic candidates wanted to get rid of the Constitution. To this, I replied Trump flouts the Constitution on a regular basis. “What? Provide examples!” she replies. “Emoluments clause,” I replied. “That’s just one.”

GUYS. SHE HAD NOT HEARD OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE.

She then just spat something about she doesn’t read mass media lies and that’s why she didn’t know and muted me.

AIBU?

Daily update from Scrotus.

If he could just shut the aggrandizement and the excess use of adjectives down, maybe we could actually figure out what's going on!!! But theres' so much fucking 'blather' that my ears go deaf!

AcrossthePond55 · 20/03/2020 16:02

And still NO SOCIAL DISTANCING ON THE PODIUM!!!

lionheart · 20/03/2020 16:14

It's always been a test of loyalty, hasn't it?

Putting your face in the frame with Trump.

Now even more so.

AngeloMysterioso · 20/03/2020 18:00

I’m lost for words...

HoldMyLobster · 20/03/2020 18:04

AngeloMysterioso I was watching it, but got distracted while the reporter was asking the question, so I only heard Trump's answer.

I rewound to see what the reporter had asked that was so 'nasty' and was astonished to find out that he'd simply asked what Trump would say to Americans who were scared.

AngeloMysterioso · 20/03/2020 18:19

HoldMyLobster for any president with his wits about him that could’ve been an absolute gift of a question. Not this fool...

Lweji · 20/03/2020 18:22

He doesn't know what's going on. He won't be able to explain it, or reassure anyone, but himself, that he's doing a great job.

Notice how journalists were keeping a healthier distance from each other.

I'd love to know this too:

We need to see the stock trades of President Trump and his family in the month of February.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 20/03/2020 18:45

Trump never fails to disappoint. Unbelievable response to a benign and reasonable question. It's difficult to comprehend how someone's brain can be so differently wired.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/03/2020 20:09

I 'liked' the way he pointed his finger a Feinstein regarding the possible insider trading thing. Then when a reporter named the GOP legislators and asked about them he got all self righteous and would only repeat "What about Feinstein, why don't you mention her?" Because you already did you great bawbag!!!

You know what? My 'autocorrect' always changes bawbag into 'gasbag'. Either fits.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 20/03/2020 20:19

A Trump Comparison?

The Official Worst President of the 20th Century was, by common consent, Warren Gamaliel Harding: Dim-Witted and spectacularly corrupt. Famous for inventing non-words like 'normalcy' where perfectly good words he'd never heard of or couldn't pronounce aleady existed. Collosal womaniser. Elected as a backlash against his high-minded and rather prechy internationalist predecessor.

Died of a cononary in his first term.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 20/03/2020 21:39

I'm not proud of this but I will actually admit to rather liking the phrase:
Died of a coronary in his first term.

Wine may have been taken. Wine

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 21:42

difficult to comprehend how someone's brain can be so differently wired
reminds me of my elderly relative, closed off and unable to tolerate any narrative that doesnt line up with their own preferred view of things :(

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/03/2020 22:19

Yes, well, if Trump were your elderly uncle you'd be trying to get him to a doctor as tactfully as you could manage.

At least he isn't driving!

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 22:40

At least he isn't driving
a fast car, a deserted race track and maybe a little livener to make it more thrilling, you know you want to donny:)

lionheart · 20/03/2020 22:46

I'll admit it too.

Wine Wine

I somehow missed this in all the kerfuffle. Randy Rainbow Smile

I was shocked how Trump rounded on the reporter asking about reassurance for scared Americans. To me... that was yet another defining moment in his presidency. He can't bring a Nation together with calm words, he can only hit out because to his narcisstic personality, a question like that is a dig at him. Shocking.

Compare that to Merkel in Germany who did a blinder of a reassurance message to Germans, and Pedro Sanchez in Spain (coalition government and his popularity has gone up over his handling of the crisis over there)

lionheart · 21/03/2020 11:53

He is too far gone to be pulled back to any kind of reality that lies outside of his own petty concerns and self-interest.

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2020 12:24

Ahh, Randy. You make me hap-py, when skies are grey.Grin

UYScuti · 21/03/2020 12:28

I feel as if that might have been a turning point, him snapping at the reporter like that, and then all the other world leaders doing the right thing, acting like grown ups, making him look even more like a useless old man.
the tide has gone right out now , we can all see that donny was swimming in the nude and pissing in the water

Roussette · 21/03/2020 13:16

UYScuti I totally agree. All over the world reporters will be asking those in charge questions along the same lines. In fact I saw a press conference in Spain when Sanchez asked the same and his answer was so reassuring.

I don't think he's capable of thinking of others, or of the country... it will all be about the markets tanking. Nothing else.

Love that Fauci the medical guy has an expressive face now. It must be so painful listening to Trump spouting off

twitter.com/LibsInAmerica/status/1241082143989805056

UYScuti · 21/03/2020 13:31

Imo Trump will continue to double down convinced that he is right
(or rather unable to tolerate the idea that he could be anything other than king of the world whom all others must believe and obey)
I think he's going to to start jumping all the sharks
(I hope🤞)

UYScuti · 21/03/2020 13:36

Oh my god that facepalm he tried to disguise it as a wiping of his brow but he couldn't suppress it completely, I think we can forgive him that slight lapse in impulse control, since trump has none at all (his impulses are the impulses of a king handed down to him straight from God so of course he wouldn't control his impulses)
perhaps Fauci has judged the situation precisely because this is the moment to signal albeit subtly that you are aware that Trump is spouting nonsense.

lionheart · 21/03/2020 13:56

Yes, I think you are right about Fauci.

It's like all those early jokes about Melania: 'Blink twice if you need us to stage an intervention.'

I see the GOP trying to pass the buck back to state Governors.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/03/2020 14:02

Thank you thank you for the Randy Rainbow: he's so good, and it's one of my favourite songs too.
