(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

Erm they're just sandals

user1473878824 · 16/01/2020 14:06

Honestly you are the only person who is going to notice. Don’t worry about it and if you have different styles it’s not like you’re going to look like twins.

WorraLiberty · 16/01/2020 14:07

The holiday is 6 months away.

I really wouldn't stress about this now or ever

Sparklyring · 16/01/2020 14:08

How distinctive are they? It wouldn't enter my head to notice peoples footwear.

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/01/2020 14:08

Well, all you can do is buy some more sandals. I'd find it a bit odd myself but you can't stop her buying them. No matter how much they cost I'd need to take at least one other choice of footwear though.

steff13 · 16/01/2020 14:08

I think you're being unreasonable. I doubt most people would notice. But you have 6 months to find a new pair of favorite sandals.

maccaroni · 16/01/2020 14:09

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Take it as a compliment

amusedbush · 16/01/2020 14:09

If the sandals are very distinctive then yes, that would annoy me and I wouldn't want to walk around wearing the same shoes as someone else for the duration of my holiday. It's weird.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/01/2020 14:09

I need to see the shoes to comment!

steff13 · 16/01/2020 14:10

Also, this:

No matter how much they cost I'd need to take at least one other choice of footwear though.

I wouldn't wear the same pair of shoes every day for 10 days.

IdleBet · 16/01/2020 14:11

These sandals must be amazing.

Runmybathforme · 16/01/2020 14:11

Is this the only thing she’s ever copied ? If so, you should take it as a compliment. They’re just sandals, nobody cares.

MagicMojito · 16/01/2020 14:11

Yep, need to see the sandals....

yogo · 16/01/2020 14:11

We need a photo to see how distinctive they are

Thesearmsofmine · 16/01/2020 14:13

I think YABU they are just a pair of shoes you don’t own the rights to them.

Whynosnowyet · 16/01/2020 14:13

Get a T shirt printed.
I got mine first..

Cloudyapples · 16/01/2020 14:13

Perfect excuse to buy some new ones then! If she really is copying you she will likely be annoyed that she’s now out of date from your style if you have new ones!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 16/01/2020 14:15

Am I the only one who wants to know what the sandals look like 😁

Link please OP!

LaurieFairyCake · 16/01/2020 14:15

Buy a different colour/lower heel/say they're not in stock in her size etc?

AryaStarkWolf · 16/01/2020 14:17

Get some new ones and wear the others at home instead. It's not a big deal

LellyMcKelly · 16/01/2020 14:17

If these are Birkenstocks I’m going to be gutted. They better be Gucci at least.

AryaStarkWolf · 16/01/2020 14:18

Buy a different colour/lower heel/say they're not in stock in her size etc?

From the OP, it sounded like the SIL already ordered them?

Cynthie · 16/01/2020 14:18

To (mis)quote KUWTK, 'littleolwinedrinker, there's people that are dying'.

beautifulstranger101 · 16/01/2020 14:19

OP- you're crazy! This is the perfect reason and opportunity to buy a NEW pair of even better, more glamorous sandals. Buy some that are even more glittery, higher heel, more glam and sexier. Then wear them- not only will the look on her face will be worth it but it will teach her that she'll never win this game Grin

Yeahnah2020 · 16/01/2020 14:21

They’re sandals!!!!!!!
