(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

Can't get past They were going to be the only shoe Grin how vair sophisticated!

YABU by the way.

midwest · 16/01/2020 14:23

I darkly suspect that you may not be the only person in the world to own these sandals.
You might be best to take a cobbling course and then you will be able to create your own individual shoes.
Freeing yourself from the risk of sandal snap.

Reginabambina · 16/01/2020 14:24

I think what’s happened is that, having lost yourself and thrown yourself into fashion you have a distorted sense of the importance of fashion. I mean this in the kindest way possible, it might be time for you to find yourself again.

BadBear · 16/01/2020 14:25

Well... well.. well... It's time for your DH to take out his credit card again and buy you another pair Wink

I'm kidding, well unless he really wants to... If she is copying you then she will never be able to style them as you. It's so obvious when someone wears something that isn't part of their statement style. Wear them and enjoy them!

P.S. Can we pleeeease have a picture? We promise not to buy them.

Reginabambina · 16/01/2020 14:25

@SwishSwishSheesh I don’t think overpacking is sophisticated, nothing wrong with taking one good pair of shoes for a short holiday.

If they are these, your SIL getting them isn't your biggest issue

Good grief.

This is a joke, surely.

DrManhattan · 16/01/2020 14:26

YABU. Take it as a compliment - she likes your style.

beautifulstranger101 · 16/01/2020 14:28

Those are ok but theyre a bit clompy - but you can get some far sexier ones on that website

DrManhattan · 16/01/2020 14:28

They are really gross so I wouldn't feel too bad

QueenOfOversharing · 16/01/2020 14:28

I don't know where to start OP but the £££££££££££

Dontlikeoranges · 16/01/2020 14:28

Har de har har OP

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 16/01/2020 14:29

Wow that really would be noticeable that you'd match! I think I'd use it as an excuse to find a new pair, start your research now and you'll have time to find a pair you love just as much.

I do think it was a bit off of her to buy the same of something so utterly distinctive and different, especially at such a high price point as clearly you'd expect to wear them for more than one season.

Owlypants · 16/01/2020 14:29

They are hideous. Give her your sandles if they fit her and buy a pair that don't look like they came with a barbie playset.

Cynthie · 16/01/2020 14:31

Who spends almost £1000 on their sibling's birthday present?

I don't think I've spent that much on my sister in 10 years...

HuggedTrees · 16/01/2020 14:31

That’s a very generous amount to spend on your SIL!

amusedbush · 16/01/2020 14:31

Ooft, those are truly honking. Kudos to you for wearing them outside with a straight face!

Redyellowpink · 16/01/2020 14:32

Holy hell. What's wrong with Birkenstocks?
