(The title is supposed to be a light hearted joke....)

DH and I have one DD. She is 3. We are going on her first holiday in July. I felt like I lost myself a bit after having DD and really took to fashion and I really enjoy styling and putting together outfits, quite eccentric outfits with bold statements pieces.

Like my beloved sandals....

I have a beautiful pair of very eccentric, loud, chunky sandals. I bought them last summer and wore them all summer. As soon as we booked the holiday last month all I could think about was getting my sandals out for the 10 days and I day dreamed about different outfits to wear them with

UNTIL yesterday

We were having breakfast yesterday morning and DH says 'Its ds birthday next week, i'll see her at dm house tonight, i'll ask what she wants for her birthday'

He returned home to say she wanted a pair of my beloved sandals to take on holiday.......

DH then gave her his bank card to order them there and then.

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

They were going to be the only shoe I was gonna bring and apparently she is saying the same because theyre ££££

Dh and I spend £££ on DS and her husbands bday presents and they spend £££ on ours. DH has no other siblings and I'm an only child.

AIBU to annoyed? I don't fancy going around our holiday destination in the same sandals, it would be very noticable. She is 25 years older than me, our sense of style is usually very different so she would style them different to me and we won't be going around in the same outfits head to toe.... but still..... :(

I've never seen shoes that looked so tacky and orthotic at the same time. Well done Gucci. I have a coworker who is in her 70s, a self-described aging hippie. They are exactly her style.

Whitney168 · 16/01/2020 14:41

(Sorry OP, I am really making the assumption that this post is a joke so replies won't be taken to heart too much ...)

littleolwinedrinker · 16/01/2020 14:41

@WorraLiberty DH offered to bedazzle a pair of crocs for me before I got them

They aren’t even ugly in an out there, cool, mad sort of way. They are just hideous.

I can’t believe your SIL would also actually like them. How amazing to have found someone who likes the same odd shit as yourself Shock Grin

Josette77 · 16/01/2020 14:42

You were those with bike shorts and a crop top???? No. That is not fashion.

1forsorrow · 16/01/2020 14:42

I went on holiday with one pair of sandals and a strap broke. I always take a spare, even if it is for a weekend. I realise I've lost the plot. Sorry.

VelvetKitty · 16/01/2020 14:43

OP they're disgusting. Bin yours and let your SIL walk around looking like a tit on her own.

littleolwinedrinker · 16/01/2020 14:43

@Whitney168 It's not a joke but I understand they're not anybodys everybodies style

I’d be annoyed as well OP, she’s being a cheeky cow. DH should have said no.
If it was me I’d just take a different pair on holiday and wear the Gucci ones the entire rest of the summer.
Act like you don’t care

MerryDeath · 16/01/2020 14:43

this post has cheered me right up. OP i want to see how you are flogging these cod you are obviously doing a good job and i'm open minded to having cloud feet. can you share your insta?

AryaStarkWolf · 16/01/2020 14:43

I won't comment on the actual sandals but your DH spends almost a grand on his sisters birthday present? that's madness

rainbow1982 · 16/01/2020 14:43

I absolutely ADORE mumsnet!!!! I'm pregnant and suffering with SPD and sciatica so my days are filled with hobbling around at home and reading hilarious posts such as these!

Firstly, I'd LOVE to be part of your family if I can ask for £1,000 gifts!! Secondly, I won't comment on the sandals as my lovely nan used to say it's wouldn't do for us all to be the same' but can I ask how old the SIL is who wants these, as I'm assuming she's mature if she's 25 years older than you??

frazzledasarock · 16/01/2020 14:43

Aesthetics aside. Given how eye catching and distinctive those are, it will be very noticeable that you’re both wearing the same sandals.

What will you do if she keeps copying you?

Anoisagusaris · 16/01/2020 14:43

A crop top and cycling shorts must really set off the look

ThunderboltandLightning · 16/01/2020 14:44

Nice one OP. Pulled everyone in there. No one in their right mind spends that amount on that pair of sandals. Let alone their DH casually buying another pair for his DSIS.

On the off chance this is real, yeah, people will notice two of you in such hideous sandals. Good luck.

Yeahnah2020 · 16/01/2020 14:44

@Owlypants 😂😂😂 your comment is bang on!! Quite honestly the most hideous, tacky, cheap looking sandals I’ve ever seen

beautifulstranger101 · 16/01/2020 14:46

A crop top and cycling shorts must really set off the look

I am dead. LMFAO

eddielizzard · 16/01/2020 14:46

oh my eyes. You need to put a trigger warning with that link

Applepea1 · 16/01/2020 14:46

Some of these responses are cruel. OP says she lost herself after her baby was born, how many of us can relate to that? I certainly can. Finding something you love and makes you feel good about yourself is great whether it's £1000 pair of sandals or gym membership or whatever.

pinkstar01 · 16/01/2020 14:46

People tell me I have great style and I'm partial to a designer item now and then but my goodness those are hideous! Seriously not sure how those could be styled in any non ridiculous way Grin

Counterpane · 16/01/2020 14:46

The blurb underneath states the model is 172cm and wearing size 37 - they are also invisible, which is impressive.

HollowTalk · 16/01/2020 14:46

Blimey, give her your own shoes and buy yourself ten nice pairs.

Whitney168 · 16/01/2020 14:46

If it was me I’d just take a different pair on holiday and wear the Gucci ones the entire rest of the summer.

I'd lay money that is this happened and OP had to look at them all weekend on someone else, she'd realise how horrific they are and never wear them again LOL.

Aaach, as above - wouldn't do if we all liked the same. I suppose. (But ...)
