I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

Sorry Tony yes. They all merge into one over indulged horsey caricature.

mynameiswah · 13/01/2020 14:31

*Or 'bland and scrawny clotheshorse', depending on your personal taste.

But apparently she never gets any abuse at all...*

Nowhere near as much.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 13/01/2020 14:31

I don’t know what sort of work they envisage in the future but I would be very reluctant to work with someone who have done what they did to the RF, it’s not the sign of someone reliable.

Rinoachicken · 13/01/2020 14:31

If it’s gone well we probably won’t hear much. If it’s gone badly for H&M I’ll bet you any money you like we’ll hear all about it from ‘sources close to the couple’

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 14:31

DuchessOfWoke I would be surprised if it goes on for days and days. Too many opportunities for leaks. Or should that be "leaks" since nobody seems to get anything discussed privately in the RF these days.

It would not surprise me if the courtiers have already created a document for the RF to rubber-stamp.

Vitriol?? Confused

😂

MurrayTheMonk · 13/01/2020 14:32

Well if nothing else the Queens popularity will bounce due to all this. She will get a lot of sympathy. Even I feel sorry for the old dear (and I'd previously begin to think of her as being a bit unpleasant) because at 90 odd who would want to have to sit through this and miss 5 o clock tea?
I hope her lady in waiting pops her an extra splash of Dubonnet later. She must be well fed up with the lot of them.

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 14:33

Tommy Lascelles would not have put up with this, I am certain.

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 14:34

Actually, what I mean is that Tommy Lascelles would have dealt with it without all this chaos.

Well, to be fair to the New York Times, the most blatant "UK is racist" articles was written by a British journalist of colour - a piece which was refuted in the Daily Telegraph by another British woman of colour.

GlitchStitch · 13/01/2020 14:36

Maybe at 5pm their announcement will be quietly deleted from Instagram and their website will disappear!

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 14:37

I don’t think that people see the “where are you from originally?” Question as racist.

fallen121 · 13/01/2020 14:37

Can I ask a question please? Came up when DH and I were discussing this whole debacle last night.

Royals can't be in receipt of the sovereign grant and also work privately and earn money or they can't be in receipt of the sovereign grant and leverage their Royal connections to earn money. Is it one of these or both?

Just wondered because after William came out of the Services and married Kate, they lived in Anglesea and he worked as a helicopter pilot doing air ambulance work. Presumably earning a salary but they were in receipt of the sovereign grant and doing public appearances as part of that obligation at the same time. How was this allowed? Or have I got this entirely wrong?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 14:37

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 14:37

This should have been dealt with in private not aired all over the media in an us v them battle.

They tried but we're being stone walled by the sounds of it. They obviously felt that they needed to do something drastic before the palace machine shafted them. Don't forget the palace could have dampened all of this by simply issuing a statement that said yes we're aware of their desire to do something else and we will continue to work with them to come to an appropriate arrangement. Instead they allowed all the gossip and drama to unfold with queen being disappointed, blindsided and PC and Wills incandescent with rage.

You are still viewing the RF as some benign passive entity and not the ruthless machine which it is.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 14:38

William gave his salary to charity.

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 14:39

GlitchStitch I would love to see that fucking website disappear.

As an exercise in up-your-own-arse-ness, however, it cannot be bettered, really.

Unfortunately you don’t get deleted for bring vitriolic or my report button would be very busy.

I expect you’ll be fuming when a sensible, fair way forward for MM and H, is announced. Their aim is to raise millions for good causes and again I wish them all the luck in the world.

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 14:40

I don’t think that people see the “where are you from originally?” Question as racist.

Depends on so many factors. Who is asking. What's the tone and context etc. Only the person on the receiving end can say if it's racist or not.

fallen121 · 13/01/2020 14:41

Thank you @MrsBrentford :D

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 13/01/2020 14:41

Canada are muppets if they pay the security bill!

MissEliza · 13/01/2020 14:42

@fallen121 I think William donated his air ambulance salary back to the charity. It would have been peanuts for him anyway.

That’s Afua Hirsch. She went to a top London day school followed by PPE at Oxford, then jobs at the Guardian, Observer and Sky News. She’s now lecturing at the University of Sourhern California, largely about how racist Britain is. She has a white mother and a black father. She wrote an article for the NY Times about this and has published a book called Brit(ish) about feeling excluded from British society.
