I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

Re Zara Tindell it’s worth noting she isn’t a princess and she’s not an HRH, so it’s hard to make that comparison.

I’m just really disappointed and rightly or wrongly somewhat offended, as far as I’m concerned we did welcome Meghan and I’m not sure, given that it’s only been 20 months, whether she really tried or whether she was unaware that strictly speaking the royals aren’t ‘celebrities ’. Maybe it’s just me but I felt they were shutting us out for a little while now, so again I question the commitment in the first place.

This is her legacy. The whole world thinking the UK is above all else, a racist country. What with this and Brexit who can blame them.

Nice one Meghan Hmm

anonacfr · 13/01/2020 13:44

Well I'm sure canadians are going to be thrilled... Grin

TBF she has behaved like an utter knob.

Thinking she knew better than the advisors, in a new country in a family steeped in a culture she did not understand.

How utterly arrogant.

kirinm · 13/01/2020 13:45

Hey @MrsBrentford why don't you ask a POC whether your assertion is correct?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:46

I’ll ask my son 👍🏻

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/01/2020 13:46

TBF she has behaved like an utter knob.

Tbf she couldn't have done it without her husbands help.

ajandjjmum · 13/01/2020 13:47

Maybe Justin is a secret republican - there is already a large portion of the Canadian population who don't want to retain the monarchy, this will surely increase their numbers!

scaryteacher · 13/01/2020 13:47

According to the Home Secretary it isn't Kirinm, and she might just have a very personal view on it.

kirinm · 13/01/2020 13:53

@scaryteacher HE might.

I've witnessed family members have racist abuse screamed at them in the street. There is most definitely a racism problem in this country.

anonacfr · 13/01/2020 13:53

Actually that Canadian story link has got me quite furious.

Why should Canadian taxpayers have to pay the security bill for a 6th in line to the throne heir, who wants to 'downgrade' his own position because he can't face the work and yet expect everyone to pay for him? Including a foreign country??? All the while making money off his title and royal connections.

That is beyond shocking.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/01/2020 13:55

Priti Patel is a woman...

MissEliza · 13/01/2020 13:56

Having moved to my dh's country in order to marry him, I can understand MM's situation. Dh is from a different culture and his family are very difficult (they're very snobby). I often 'got it wrong' in their eyes. I also felt very homesick in the first few years. However, I knew this was a choice I had made and I did my best to make the best of it. I didn't even have the luxury of being able to fly home frequently if it all got a bit too much. We eventually moved back to the UK as my dh got a promotion here but I stayed there for over ten years and made the best of it, which was the best thing for my marriage and family. This is why I actually have zero sympathy for MM. She lived in the U.K. for less than three years ffs. She didn't give anything a chance.
Also I don't understand how you could put your dh in such a difficult situation if you really loved him. I'm sure Harry wants to reduce his role but the way this has been handled has damaged his relationship with his family. Why would you want that for your dh?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:57

My son has rarely experienced any racism, and we live in a predominantly white area of the U.K.

He has been asked “where he is from” and when he has replied that he is from this town people have said “no originally?”

But that is about the extent of it, DD once had a friend here who exclaimed that she “had a chocolate brother”.

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 13:57

Hilarious that people think MM has done this on her own, that she stalked Harry and always planned to cash in 🤣

More like they just don't know how to welcome any new members and have a track record of fuck ups. Sounds like Harry is just digging in based on his knowledge of how his family will throw anyone under the bus least of all his black wife.

Jillyhilly · 13/01/2020 14:00

kirinm. There’s probably a racism problem - i.e. there are instances of racism - in every country under the sun in which people of different racial backgrounds co-exist. That’s very different to being a “racist nation”.

EmeraldShamrock · 13/01/2020 14:01

With all due respect there is racism in lots of countries. It is horrible I am sorry your family member experienced this. Overall the UK is very diverse, unlike say Poland.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 14:04

I love the theory that MM stalked him Grin

Mominatrix · 13/01/2020 14:05

Is there racism in the UK, yes there is. Statistically, in terms of a world-wide view, is the UK a problematically racist country, no it is considered one of the more tolerant places in the world, and even in Europe, to live.

There have been few (if any - could be but I have not seen any) blatantly racist articles in the press about Meghan and none in the more respected press. Where there have been awful remarks have been in the social media sphere - something the Sussexes won't be able to control despite their desire to.

stormsurfer · 13/01/2020 14:08

Just pondering... Princess Anne refused to call her 2 children, Peter and Zara, HRH and because of the constitution at the time with Anne being female, they were not heirs to the throne.. but what if it had been changed? Both Peter and Zara were born before William, Peter is the oldest grandchild of the Queen...Things would be very different.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 14:09

Eh? Charles is older than Anne.....

IrmaFayLear · 13/01/2020 14:09

If, for whatever reason, Meghan has developed a hatred for this country and the royal family, well, that's her choice. She and Harry can step down if that's what they think is best for them.

But to want to swan off and represent the Queen with appropriate funding and be able to monetise the "brand" , that's seriously not on.

TVdinners · 13/01/2020 14:11

So, if reports are to be believed, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are nothing more than a pair of blackmailers.

stormsurfer · 13/01/2020 14:11

Yes, I just meant what if it went by order the grandchildren were born.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 14:12

Well Peter Phillips is married to a Canadian isn’t he? Grin
