I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

Emerald That is indeed the Sussex Royal website. Makes me want to puke. At least the bit about them being ' Internationally protected persons' has gone......makes them sound like a protected species!!!

Fraggot · 13/01/2020 13:10

More importantly, has anyone remembered to ask MM is she’s ok?

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/01/2020 13:10

Edward's children are Louise and James

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:12

Is Meghan ok hon? More like...

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:15

I can imagine she is fuming at all the photos of Kate in the press driving around looking and behaving perfectly Grin

MurrayTheMonk · 13/01/2020 13:15

Thankyou weeds... so it is possible to be royal and private should you want to.Would anyone even recognise them in the street? Or him or his wife tbh?

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 13:16

Not seeing his grandson at Christmas must have been rubbish for Charles.

This is nowhere near a 'normal' family! They have to go through courtiers to speak to their own parents and make appointments. You're applying our social norms to a dysfunctional alien organisation. Likewise the queen is not some doting 93 year old benign granny. Just look at what she did to her sister and her own son when he first fell in love with Camilla.

They are all pretty vile!!!

Fraggot · 13/01/2020 13:19

The DM now reporting Trudeau has agreed to pay half the security bill whilst H&M are in Canada.

kirinm · 13/01/2020 13:22

Harry said he saw the Queen as more of a boss than a grandmother. I think all of this assuming this family is anything like a normal family is a massive error. This is a business.

DobbyLovesSocks · 13/01/2020 13:22

@MurrayTheMonk Edward and Sophie have two children; Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn (I think). Sophie haemorrhaged after giving birth to both children and almost died after James'. There was a photo of Louise last week at some stables where she helps with the horses. I think she has some sort of eye problem (lazy eye or something)

IrmaFayLear · 13/01/2020 13:23

The Telegraph were intimating that H&M could be the Governors of Canada, but would have to agree to be apolitical. I think they wouldn't care too much for this because it would be exactly the sort of ribbon cutting and smiling that they want to get away from in the UK.

Mominatrix · 13/01/2020 13:26

AllTheWhoresOfMalta, I'm not a royalist either (not British) and I have avoided all the previous Meghan/Kate threads but this topic is just too fascinating.

I do have sympathy for Meghan but think that her handling of this situation has ben completely tone deaf. Instead of it being a race issue, I really do think that people just don't get how different the American outlook is to things. I have been on the various Parent's Association of my son's schools and the difference between the American led ones and the British led ones are quite eye-opening. The American lead ones have been quite a bit more "Professional", go-gettem', active and in-your-face with fundraising targets well in the 6 figures. The UK led ones have been much more relaxed, more "homespun" with much more modest fundraising targets. Neither is better than the other - just different.

EmeraldShamrock · 13/01/2020 13:26

@scaryteacher How selfish.
The Monarch is resolute, they aim to continue to fly the flag for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as called upon This part shocked me. The cheek.

MurrayTheMonk · 13/01/2020 13:26

Had no idea about that with Sophie....probably because not enough people rushed to ask her if she was ok? Grin

TheMustressMhor · 13/01/2020 13:31

Sophie nearly died when she had an ectopic pregnancy as well.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:32

Didn’t Sophie Wessex have an eptopic pregnancy too?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:32

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/01/2020 13:33

I really hope the royal side is not foolish enough to give them any operational role representing the monarchy. They have shown they just don't have the integrity.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 13/01/2020 13:36

I agree Mominatrix, the U.K./US culture divide has been much ignored in this situation, but we are very different cultures with very different attitudes. There’s a fab book by Jon Sopel called “If Only They Didn’t Speak English” which talks about all the vast differences between our two nations but the prevailing misconception that we are far more similar than we are because a) their nation spawned from ours and b) we speak the same language (sort of).

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 13:38

Thing is it is the BRITISH Royal Family, the clue was in the title.

As said previously I am furious that it’s being put to the rest of the world that we are a racist nation.

We are bloody well not Angry

CoolCarrie · 13/01/2020 13:38

Arthur Edwards is making a good point on itv news at the moment, about Meghan treating the Queen with disrespect not being there in person. .

AllergicToAMop · 13/01/2020 13:40

I wonder if they will now make a blanket ban on intimate relationships with AmericansShock

CoolCarrie · 13/01/2020 13:41

She is a cf imo, three years in and she has fucked off, and the UK is not a racist country, huge parts of the USA still are.

cathyandclare · 13/01/2020 13:41

This. I think Meghan envisioned dynamic, world-changing projects. Using their fame and their platform to make a big difference. Like the charitable foundations of the Clintons, Obamas etc.

The royal hierarchy, courtiers and protocol seem to have made the reality very different. I understand why she feels her voice has been muted. It must be frustrating for all the royals, but especially one who is a little older and who has been used to freedom and independence.
