I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

^This marriage is doomed really.
Unless Harry will be happy to be carted around as an accessory to his wife I can't see what else he can do over there.
I suppose charity work ? Stay at home dad ?
No friends or family to speak to.
The British press will turn on him and seeing his family will be difficult when he comes back.
I don't envy him really!
^

Surely all of the above would have applied to Meghan had she stayed here?

Guacamole · 13/01/2020 19:34

@karencantobe
I think their website certainly implies they do.

CondeNasty · 13/01/2020 19:35

So she is not going to be shorn and paraded through the streets a la Cersei Lannister? How disappointing. We can only hope the Queen is playing the long game and it is a ploy to get her to return to the UK so she can be thrown in the Tower and charged with treason.

The evil manipulative temptress, that poor helpless young boy of just 35 didnt stand a chance Hmm.

Alsohuman · 13/01/2020 19:36

We don't even know if they want to keep their titles

Of course we do, what do you think the Sussex Royal website’s all about?

diddl · 13/01/2020 19:36

I'd love a tell all!

Can't think other than most people thinking "oh, is that it?"!!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 13/01/2020 19:36

This is all still much less important than Andrew's antics, which were not subject to as much scrutiny on MN or in the press. I think BJ paid M&H huge sums to distract the country and so the RF is fiddling as the UK burns.

Iamdobby63 · 13/01/2020 19:36

@ karencantobe I think from their website it’s clear they want to keep their titles.

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 19:36

There have been major upsets between members of the RF before, and there will be other ones. Putting your wife and children first is not turning your back on your family.

mrscampbellblackagain · 13/01/2020 19:36

There is so much speculation that Harry doesn't see any of his old friends any more. I do hope that isn't true. I think being in Canada without any old friends or family will be very hard for Harry indeed.

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 19:37

@Iamdobby63 Okay thanks, I hadnt looked at their website. So titles may be a key thing they want to win in the negotiation.

Andylion · 13/01/2020 19:38

@SeparatedSwans,
When in Canada - Canada will pay
When in UK - UK will pay
When carrying out official duties for the Palace - UK will pay
When on holiday/America - UK will pay for protection but at a reduced level. I.e 2 officers and not the usual 4-6

But if they eventually I’ve to California?

The80sweregreat · 13/01/2020 19:38

They are emigrating because this is what they want to do and they can't see anything wrong with it. They are not aware that some people and their own family may be a bit upset by the way they have gone about it or how they announced it or how they have treated people. This is about them and their needs.

It's a selfish way to act ( I think it could have been done so much better ) but it's how people are and they think they will be happier living there than here and just going back and forth for awhile. I'm sure that Meghan's new friends will be very supportive of her.
I'm sure his family will be ok. I doubt they will go and visit anytime soon though.

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 19:39

@CondeNasty Yes it is the least she deserves apparently for crimes like cradling her baby bump.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 13/01/2020 19:39

The truth is Harry and Meghan hold all the cards now. They don't care what the British public think, why should they. They just want to leave with a settlement they are happy with. We don't know what kind of settlement they are looking for. But the threat of a US TV interview means they have more power to get what they want in the negotiation.

They don't hold the cards. They have achieved a grubby victory and the price was alienating his family and burning a lot of bridges. That's not a good foundation for happiness.

Good luck to them, hope they achieve their financial independence and hope it's worth it.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 13/01/2020 19:39

Bet this site is benefiting from the coincidence: sussexroyals.co.uk/

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 19:40

There is nothing wrong with Harry and Meghan deciding they do not want to be senior royals and they want to go to Canada. He is not even the heir and will never be King.

derxa · 13/01/2020 19:41

This is all still much less important than Andrew's antics, which were not subject to as much scrutiny on MN or in the press. It is much less important but there have been no further developments and the papers don't have anything to write. The most hated paper in the world did a huge amount of reporting on the Andrew story but people refuse to believe this. But believe me the story will emerge again.

PaperFlowers4 · 13/01/2020 19:41

Surely all of the above would have applied to Meghan had she stayed here?

She chose to move to the UK to be with him though. This is actually the situation i have with my husband (British) though I was already living here when I met him. I’d like to move back to my home country for at least a few years but it’s unreasonable for me to expect him to agree to that when we married in the UK with the assumption that this is where we would be living. He never expected or planned to move abroad, and I’m grateful that he’s even considering it frankly.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 13/01/2020 19:42

I don't agree with the evil temptress part but I can quite believe that Harry craved a family, seeing him alongside William and Kate you could see that was what he wanted. I can easily see how he got swept along when he met Meghan into believing that this was his chance of finally getting his own family. I think that's the truth of why he and William fell out - that William maybe urged caution fearing what was to come and Harry resented being told that his wife to be was maybe not all she seemed.

Marry in haste, repent at leisure as the saying goes

I wonder if the little monogram will change on the letterheads now? You know, the lovely ‘m’ with the crown atop?

Will there now be a tiny finger poking out of the crown? Or maybe two?

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 19:42

I think what has pissed people off is banging on about privacy and then creating this humongous circus.

BillieEilish · 13/01/2020 19:43

She also doesn't have any family Hmm

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 19:43

@ChardonnaysDistantCousin Lots of people alienate the inlaws to live the life they want.

Iamdobby63 · 13/01/2020 19:43

I’m wondering how this ‘period of transition’ will work out, I’m guessing Royal diaries are booked up in advance so I wonder if they have engagements already planned hence the transition.
