I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

Pleased for Harry and Meghan. Good outcome. I wish them nothing but the best. William will miss his brother and Harry will miss him.
It’s a pity William didn’t do more to sustain their relationship —and not put it about - I’ve seen that “flinch” interview too—

NumbersStation · 13/01/2020 19:44

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

Grin. They missed a trick there! Grin

ssd · 13/01/2020 19:45

Say what you want. My dad and dhs dad were in WW2, not as a sense of duty, certainly not to the Queen, but because they were enlisted and had no bloody choice.

Lots of people alienate the inlaws to live the life they want. But maybe not both sets of in laws.

creativecringe · 13/01/2020 19:47

That’s Afua Hirsch. She went to a top London day school followed by PPE at Oxford, then jobs at the Guardian, Observer and Sky News. She’s now lecturing at the University of Sourhern California, largely about how racist Britain is. She has a white mother and a black father. She wrote an article for the NY Times about this and has published a book called Brit(ish) about feeling excluded from British society.

Her dad is Jewish and in her book she talks about the racism in the uk. How she was racially abused growing up, from primary school, Oxford, the law firms, and sky. By that comment you haven't the read the book.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 19:48

I would really like to know Sarah Ferguson’s thoughts on this.

She was vilified but also appeared pissed off at the pregnancy announcement at her daughters wedding.

I think she would have a balanced view Grin

karencantobe · 13/01/2020 19:49

Ah announcing her pregnancy at the wedding. It snot like she stood up on a chair and announced it. From memory it was a scripted announcement.

Sparklyyear · 13/01/2020 19:49

She chose to move to the UK to be with him though. This is actually the situation i have with my husband (British) though I was already living here when I met him. I’d like to move back to my home country for at least a few years but it’s unreasonable for me to expect him to agree to that when we married in the UK with the assumption that this is where we would be living. He never expected or planned to move abroad, and I’m grateful that he’s even considering it frankly.

What so she isn't allowed to change her mind?

Perhaps she realised she hated it here.

I thought at the time they got married that it would never work, she was giving up her career and her lifestyle to move abroad with a family she barely knew.

Perhaps she should have realised before, but then so should Harry.

Why is it ok for her to leave her life behind, but not for him?

Anyway I'd give it 6 months and he'll be back with his tail between his legs.

The deep rooted misogyny is astounding, it's ALL her fault, poor Harry is blameless. He's a grown man ffs.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 19:51

She turned up in a maternity coat and she didn’t even have a bump, she may as well have “announced” it by standing on a chair.

astralweaks · 13/01/2020 19:53

@scaryteacher

I disagree. By the way, are you an American scary teacher? If not, you should know that the verb “practise” is spelt with an s.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 19:54

Practice is spelt with a C ...

MorningCalm · 13/01/2020 19:54

I think the fact that North America is mentioned instead of Canada on the Instagram post, means something.

astralweaks · 13/01/2020 19:55

🤣🤣🤣

SeperatedSwans · 13/01/2020 19:55

I think if she (Meghan) does another is she ain't she pregnancy thing at Beatrice's wedding Sarah Ferguson will literally flip her flipping lid 😳

I can hear the screaming down the corridor of Windsor Castle now "that f American girl has gone too f far again"

The80sweregreat · 13/01/2020 19:56

She chose this life and was happy to embrace it all at first.
It now just looks like this was a big ruse and this was the real plan all along.
I bet you that Harry had to be talked round a lot to agree to it but he has to be seen as supporting his family. Nothing wrong with that , I still feel he was hoodwinked and was hoping she would be happy in the U.K.
she clearly wasn't. There are a lot of reasons why but I still think he will miss everyone.
It's not the end of the world of course but it's still sad when families drift apart whoever they are.

If it's discovered that William is like his dad with having affairs then this may speed up the Royals being abolished a lot quicker.Who knows! ?

GlitchStitch · 13/01/2020 19:56

I hope somebody at the meeting today reminded Harry about the implications of Archie becoming habitually resident in another country. Although it probably wouldn't have gone down very well. I do think he will end up stuck though.

bohemia14 · 13/01/2020 19:57

I liked Meghan at the beginning and thought she was a breath of fresh air. She was a stunning bride and I still think she's very beautiful and I love her sense of style.

Things changed for me when she wore that coat at Eugenie's wedding buttoned in such a way as to cause speculation about her being pregnant. It was too close to narcissistic behaviour I've seen from a family friend. And everything that has happened since has followed the path I would have expected which I've sadly seen before.

I'm very sad for Harry and furious about the impact on the Royal family and the perception of the British people.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 19:58

I think if she does it at Beas wedding there will be a proper fight Grin

astralweaks · 13/01/2020 19:58

MrsBrentford

Practice is spelt with a C ...

Not when it is a verb The poster helpfully suggested I “practice” using italics on this site. The UK spelling us as follows:

practice - noun
practise - verb

The poster was using a verb.

Sparklyyear · 13/01/2020 19:58

Lots of people alienate the inlaws to live the life they want. But maybe not both sets of in laws.

It's not really Meghan's fault that her family are like that. Her family have behaved like trash selling stories on her.

The Royal family have there fair share of dysfunction, imagine sitting round the dinner table with Edward?

It's not really difficult to imagine two people from nightmare families coming together.

Jomarchsburntskirt · 13/01/2020 19:58

She’s batshit crazy. I really think Harry was a project. She’s got her prize now. I don’t care what they do as long as it’s not costing the tax payers anything. @Rinoachicken you are so right. She’s got her friends leaking to the press left, right and centre.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 13/01/2020 19:59

I "chose" to move away from my home country when I got married. I had no option and I still resent that 30 years on, but our marriage wouldn't have worked any other way. Now, unfortunately, I'd never go back to my home country to live (because of Brexit, I voted to join the Common Market all those years ago and still think it was the best thing for a small country like the UK). You never know how things are going to work out, in the first flush of new love and married optimism.

astralweaks · 13/01/2020 19:59

...is as follows...

WutheringBites · 13/01/2020 19:59

In all the AIBU/ “dealing with difficult in-laws” posts on MN, it’s always bounced back to the DH. Everyone says “ooh it’s his family & he should sort it”.
Except in this case, where everyone seems to have it in for MM. bizarre.

And, yes, what interesting things are our lovely new Parliament up to this week? What wonderfully handy press coverage for them...
