I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

MrsB* Here in the Duchy there are differing opinions on that!

SunsetBoulevard3 · 13/01/2020 17:26

@OutFoxxedByABadger
Yes but the trouble is they’re behaving like characters in a soap opera. If they behaved with some dignity and grace this debacle wouldn’t have happened at all.

PlacidPenelope · 13/01/2020 17:26

The way it has been done is straight out of a soap opera script Out.

Alsohuman · 13/01/2020 17:27

Oh Lord, that video. Poor Harry’s face.

derxa · 13/01/2020 17:28

I know people hate Priti Patel on here. But she's achieved a lot.
She's grateful for her opportunities in life and doesn't paint herself as a victim.

notmoresheep · 13/01/2020 17:29

A very bland statement, as expected. its not like we’ll ever get to know details of todays meeting. they’ll thrash out the funding/security and leave them to sink or swim, while publicly making vague comments of support so Harry has a way back if/when it goes tits up.

I don’t think Harry will be happy in the glitzy artificial Hollywood husband role if the move to LA is the aim, she just isn’t a player there at all and has proved to be about as ‘royal’ as any of us on here. He’s been stitched up like a kipper.

birdchestbeautiful · 13/01/2020 17:31

Scaryteacher - i don't know how the hell you get that from that statement. That was the blandest statement in THE WHOLE WORLD. As bland as bland could be.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/01/2020 17:31

I was that person. You quoted me. I was correcting the person who used the wrong sex not the person who used the correct one. Why would I? 🤷‍♀️

scaryteacher · 13/01/2020 17:32

Hopefully the 'deal' is so hedged about that it will all come to nothing. I can't believe that HM will allow personal gain from the titles or for the RF to be brought into disrepute by the Sussexes.

I hope Harry noticed that he has been accused of 'conduct unbecoming' by a RM who probably speaks for quite a lot of the Corps. Will they still want him as Captain General or will they ask HM for someone else? I note a senior ex Army figure has weighed in as well.

Alsohuman · 13/01/2020 17:32

She believes in the death penalty. That writes off any virtue she might have. She’s vile.

DeRigueurMortis · 13/01/2020 17:32

I read that as an "offer" has been made to H&M and they are now being given time to digest it.

I'd also wager that the statement on transition, directly following the sentence on financial independence implies that they will get some funding from PC/the Duchy but it's going to be time limited.

I'll be very interested to so see what, if any, parameters/governance is going to be put in place to manage their "work" assuming they are retaining their titles.

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 17:32

They could have issued same statement last week and avoided the drama

PlacidPenelope · 13/01/2020 17:34

Reading between the lines of that statement they are definitely going, resigning or whatever from the Royal Family completely to live a different and independent life outside the UK and now all that needs to be worked out are the mechanisms to achieve that but in the meantime they will flit between Canada and the UK to honour certain engagements.

Remaining valued members of the family so they will be invited to family events.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2020 17:35

These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days

Translation: there's not a hope in hell of satisfying H&M's demands, not to mention guaranteeing their silence, so everyone's going back to their lawyers

colouringinpro · 13/01/2020 17:35

I really hope the RF manage to keep cool and maintain a relationship with Harry leaving an open door. I'm not feeling optimistic about his marriage. There is a real risk his mental health will deteriorate when living in US, in a different culture (common language is misleading) and away from family and friends.

scaryteacher · 13/01/2020 17:36

Bird

'Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.'

To me that says we still want you, still value you, and don't want you to go..and that as you are valued, you can come back, we are not cutting you off.

'These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

No final decisions have yet been made, so that's a 'this is the offer, go away, talk with Meghan, and think about it a bit before you burn your bridges.

Parker231 · 13/01/2020 17:36

Zara Tindall, although with no title but also a grandchild of HM, benefits financially from sponsorship deals - due to her RF connections?

kirinm · 13/01/2020 17:36

@scaryteacher and? I'm simply saying I'm the person who said HE because I mistakenly thought of Sajid rather than Priti Patel. I think both are used to try and prove that nothing is racist if that helps.

Priti Patel believes in the death penalty and has an awful voting record when it comes to human rights. She's an awful person. I actually couldn't think of a worse person to be home secretary. And that's saying something given how awful Theresa May was.

1Morewineplease · 13/01/2020 17:36

Have read that H & M , despite their protestations about media intrusion etc..., might be going on Oprah’s show!
Really?

kirinm · 13/01/2020 17:37

A google suggests this has been denied by whoever denies everything for everyone involved in this spectacle.

birdchestbeautiful · 13/01/2020 17:39

Scary - yes, and what of that could we not have predicted lawyers would have written?

lilmishap · 13/01/2020 17:39

Allegedly her mum was seen leaving Oprahs house several times recently.

Rinoachicken · 13/01/2020 17:40

‘My family’ not THE family - so sounds like he’s giving up the official royal family bit entirely.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 17:41

Zara Tindall has sponsorship deals because she is an Olympian.

LaurieMarlow · 13/01/2020 17:41

Zara Tindall, although with no title but also a grandchild of HM, benefits financially from sponsorship deals - due to her RF connections?

She also lives on an estate purchased by the Queen.

From private funds sure, but there are a lot of pots to play with. They’re all taken care of.
