I am waiting with interest to find out what happens next, following on from this afternoon's talks at Sandringham.

Poor old Queen. She can't have finished the leftover turkey yet and here she is, embroiled in another crisis.

Sorry meant Grin

crispysausagerolls · 13/01/2020 15:39

Yes - MrsBrenford - you are quite right. I only ask if someone has an accent! Because then one has to assume they at least lived abroad which makes for interesting convo! Basing on skin colour is a bit dicey...

MorningCalm · 13/01/2020 15:39

What do you think is the intention of the Instagram post visiting the Hubb Community Kitchen?

crispysausagerolls · 13/01/2020 15:40

Although I have olive skin and the amount of times I get asked where I am from because I cannot possibly be British! which I quite like as people tend to think I am from where exotic like Italy (I’m
Not, sadly).

Anyway I digress....

crispysausagerolls · 13/01/2020 15:40

@MorningCalm

I reckon to pretend all is well/nothing amiss in camp

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 15:41

Irma you clearly buy the palace propaganda. I don't. You've just demonstrated that the costing would be a two way conversation. A meeting to thrash out what is/isn't possible. You could drag it out over months of course by refusing to meet and doing it through courtiers. Sounds like H&M got fed up of that game.

PlacidPenelope · 13/01/2020 15:42

Costings could never be done by Harry without input from the wider machine. It's a tactic, stonewalling.

Er yes they could, he knows exactly how much he gets from the Sovereign Grant and his father's pocket, he wouldn't have the exact cost of his security detail but he could make a very educated guess.

It's not only the actual costings he needed to provide it was who and how they would be met. Since they made great play of the financial independence part of their statement then it is apparent they had given this some thought as to how they would achieve it and what they felt they should/would pay for and who else would/should pick up the bill for the rest. Not difficult, not unreasonable to ask them to provide these details.

Butterymuffin · 13/01/2020 15:42

Apparently it won’t go on beyond the Queen’s 5pm tea-time.

I'll remember this every time I read something else about how the Queen gives everything, is devoted to duty 24/7 etc. As long as a meeting doesn't run on past tea time. I mean, it's not like it's a crisis or anything!

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 15:43

My son is half Asian, beautiful Mongolian hooded eyes, 6 foot tall and has hair which looks like an Afro, he also has an “exotic” name, but he is born and bred in the town we live in Grin

Royals can't be in receipt of the sovereign grant and also work privately and earn money or they can't be in receipt of the sovereign grant and leverage their Royal connections to earn money. Is it one of these or both?

Just wondered because after William came out of the Services and married Kate, they lived in Anglesea and he worked as a helicopter pilot doing air ambulance work. Presumably earning a salary but they were in receipt of the sovereign grant and doing public appearances as part of that obligation at the same time. How was this allowed? Or have I got this entirely wrong?
You do have it wrong.
Firstly, William didn't come out of the services and marry Kate. He married her in 2011, well before he left the RAF.
He worked for Air Ambulance from March 2015 and "although his position was paid, Kensington Palace announced that William would donate his full salary to the EAAA charity."

crispysausagerolls · 13/01/2020 15:44

I can’t see how the tea time
Thing is true when Harry arrived at 3pm or so. Does 2 hours really seem
Long enough?

Would love some afternoon tea now though...

brassbrass · 13/01/2020 15:45

I doubt very much that Harry knows where all the money comes from or how much is allocated to what. Again you're just demonstrating that it's a two way conversation that needs to be thrashed out.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 15:45

@MorningCalm

To prove that they are secretly so altruistic, so secret they had a photo taken and released 🙄

fallen121 · 13/01/2020 15:46

@MorningCalm

Reckon it is to deflect attention from their website and the fact that it is constantly being changed/updated every 5 minutes.

Also because it shows how wonderful and caring H&M are. And also how discreet because it was supposed to be a "private" visit after all ...

Someone on here made a good point yesterday that you can't say you want to go and live quietly and privately and avoid press intrusion on the one hand and then put your entire lift in Instagram the next.

Abraid2 · 13/01/2020 15:46

Straight Outta Compton

An expression incomprehensible to most Brits.

fallen121 · 13/01/2020 15:46

Life not lift

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 15:48

That brown outfit MM wore though was really really hideous. No one would look good in that. Sorry Blush

DuchessofWoke · 13/01/2020 15:48

Grin She’s 93, I think she’s earned her fruit-cake. At this stage, I think commentators are just talking for the sake of talking. We know nothing. Fun speculating though.

fallen121 · 13/01/2020 15:49

@Abraid2 Any Brit who has watched "Jackie Brown" (Tarantino movie) will know EXACTY what "straight outta Compton" means. I did.

Great movie BTW. Pam Grier should have won an Oscar.

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 15:49

She’s not actually from Compton anyway...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2020 15:51

if this Oprah "tell-all" interview actually goes ahead it might result in 5 minutes of fame for H&M but ultimately it might sink them. Because who would want to be friends with people who might run to the media with news of your latest indiscretion in return for a quick buck?

Well spotted, fallen, but it takes integrity to think of something like that, and it's not immediately obvious that H&M have any

Not being a lawyer I've no idea if a UK non-disclosure agreement could be enforced in the US, but even that could be tricky if Archie's brought in as a bargaining chip. The best long term solution may be if Harry himself realises the ghastly mistake he's made ... at which point the palace can get on with the non-attributable media briefings

MrsBrentford · 13/01/2020 15:51

Piers Morgan had a big row with a lady about it on GMB this morning Grin

IrmaFayLear · 13/01/2020 15:51

On the SussexRoyal website is a long explanation about royal finances and where money comes from. Now, call me a cynic but I doubt whether Harry has spent one minute of his life considering his finances. Who dug into all this and is writing it? It must have taken quite a bit of stealthy sleuthing to find it out without alerting the palace.

It is really annoying when people keep banging on how M&H were at the end of their tether etc etc when clearly their exit had been planned for many, many months. Patents filed, advisers appointed, PR firm hired... all done not long after the wedding.

cheezy · 13/01/2020 15:53

I just admit to being fascinated with how this is unfolding Blush but this thread it getting a bit unpleasant now
